A drive around video of my 1999 Ranger that had a 302 out of a 1999 Ford explorer. It's a 2wd truck and everything is stock besides an HO cam and couple little things in the engine.
@@drewanderson694 16mpg highway 65mph most of the time. Funny enough about the same on city roads. I have a heavy foot. Great thing is, no codes, no leaks, everything works great. I'm going to get it painted this Summer and put some fender flares on this Summer (rocks flying from the wide tires)
Nice little truck I put the 97 explorer 5.o transmission PCM all in a 79 f150. I purchased Delta Force turning software. Did the tune myself little truck runs good gets 23 miles, to the gallon on the highway with a 308 gear. And with the Delta Force tuning you can change the shift points and shift firmness on the transmission. Take out the speed limiter of the rev limiter
Nice. Plan on doing a swap into a 84 ranger short bed. I’ve already got the 3.73 positrack out of a v8 explorer swapped over in it disk brakes and all. Won’t be long till I’ll be dropping the 5.0 in. All I’m waiting on is some warmer weather which is right around the corner
Get a Actron CP9680 code tester. It checks live, record, emissions readiness test, transmission test, graphing, oxygen sensor test, ABS, SRS, and MORE! It retains the memory of results. Get 4 aaa batteries for the rear cover. It comes in a black carrying pouch. EBAY has it. Get a USB cable to update it.
If you haven’t done the multi function switch try removing the steering column trim and see if the harness is loose or see if any wires are loose from the harness that’s what the problem with mine was
@@whydoihave6neutrals772 I can find a 5.0 no problem. My issue is finding the whole explorer with a decent motor so that I can have everything I need from one source.
I bought a whole one for 750. Bad fuel pump. Front end smashed. Got to pull the engine out though.. and do the water pump. Seems the bearings got smashed. But, the oil is oil so, the block is ok hahah
Ive been watching your channel For a while now. Alot of info from you great channel. I have a 98 Mountaineer AWD. Swapping to a 98 4x4 Ext cab. Thinking of starting channel from beginning to end?
According to the California DMV I called, you can swap any motor into your vehicle as long as its the same motor your year or newer... i have a 1997 2.3l ranger. I can legally swap a 5.0 from a ford explorer into it as long as it is from the year 97 or newer.
I did a 99 Explorer drivetrain into a 98 Ranger. Believe it or not, emissions, EVAP etc all work and I don't have a check engine light(I did before I added O2 sensors, so the CEL logic works). That should work in California as long as you use the stock cats or a CARB approved exhaust. Latest you could go would be 01, since that's the final year of the 5.0.
Speedometer, tach, CEL etc all work on a 98-00 Ranger with an Explorer/Mountaineer harness(I used a 99 mountaineer on my 98 ranger). I don't even have a check engine light. EVAP, O2 sensors, VSS etc all work, speedometer works. It's like it came out of the Ford assembly that way.
I swapped a 5.0 from a Mountaineer into my 2.5 Ranger. Front end doesn't really look or feel any more heavy than it did with the 2.5L. I run iron GT40 heads and a M5OD-R2 5 speed from a F150 on it, and kept AC but deleted EGR. 5.0L is a light, short deck V8, it weighs about 470 lb with accessories and fluids. I've got some videos on my channel if you want to see how it sits up front.
Now, I’m 16, this is a long ways away but when I picked out my first vehicle at 14 I just wanted a work truck, I couldn’t afford an f250(cousin bought it for 5k). So I bought my ranger, 2003 ranger xlt, pushrod 3.0 v6, automatic(unfortunately), with 78k miles for 1600. Pretty dang good deal being honest. But I’m to used to this thing. It and my dads manual escort zx2 are way, way to slow anymore. So I’m looking at some swaps for the ranger. The 302 sounds great and I love the low end torque, a friend of my fathers swapped a 302 from a mustang rather than an explorer. I have similar plans. I bet I can find a 302 in good condition at a junkyard for about 500 bucks. I read the 5 speed manual tranny from a 4.6 f150 will fit with a 302, do you know if this is a fact? With all that said I’m hoping for a camshaft(unsure of how aggressive I’m looking). I still want peak torque below 4K rpm but I want power past 5200. I’m looking for 280hp/310 torque at the wheels.
@@andysanchez7050 the eco boost motors cost as much as the 5.0 and in a small truck like that you’ll get decent gas mileage and the 5.0 coyote is a pretty easy swap
@@matthewgreene2527 No, the tranny shit itself. Replaced it and sold it. Aint driven an Auto since. I did get a 2023 Kawasaki Z400. Gave up on modern cars. too many electronics, until i get the money for an SLC superlight ill keep my shitbox and motorcycles.
If you want to make sure the wiring is good and the cluster is good take the coolant temp connector off and ground it to the engine block or the battery the gauge should read hot instantly with key on
@Tanto Buds no, that's the short answer. Extra stuff, body mounts, and frame dimensions are not the same. However standard cab short box 4wd trucks are at the same 112" wheelbase and can use the driveshafts from the explorer. Ask me how I know that
Everything should be pretty much plug N play. You might run into a neutral safety switch issue with that trans but I'm sure it would be easy to get it working
Depends on version. But 215hp is stock. However, the torque is better than any v6 that the ranger had and it's a *factory* setup, you take everything out from the engine bays, toss the ranger stuff and put the explorer stuff in. Watch the rubber/plastic tubes for vac. They're probably cracked, and leaking. That'll effect everything. Trust me. I'd know. I have one almost done.
225-235 hp and 280-300ftlbs stock. You’re lucky for having a 00. The 99 and 00 4x4 rangers are the easiest to swap. You need to find a 99-01 5.0 explorer or mountaineer, get the complete donor vehicle as that will make your life so much easier. I found mine running and driving for 400 bucks. Then everything is plug and play, take the motor mounts from the explorer and they bolt into your frame, the ecm from the explorer, get the pats tuned out at a dealership or have it paired with your key, and just drop the motor in. If you’re using the auto trans from the explorer it’s bolt it, if you want to go manual like I am then an m5odr2 trans from an f150 will fit once you slot out the crossmember bolt holes about 1/5” and use the ranger master cylinder. Ford used the same fittings for everything. Easy peasy. Then bypass the park safety switch so the computer will allow the motor to start. To make the ranger gauges work, you only have to swap a couple pins and they will read correctly as they are the same panels between them, look up any missing info at the ranger forums on google. Good luck
@@mgunn9801 I'm not sure why Fomoco1320 didn't use the stock Ranger driveshaft, but I used it on mine. Stock 2.5 M5OD-R1 5 speed driveshaft worked without any issues on a 5.0 M5OD-R2 5 speed swap. These 98+ 2WD Rangers have nice aluminum driveshafts.
Hey what kind of transmission did you use with the v8 I want to do the same to my ranger but most of the Ford Explorers transmission’s I’m looking at are 4wd and my trucks only 2wd
