Either way, you're blameless, and your passengers are doomed to either do extra walking or ride busses in circles, depending on the distance between stops."

God, I hate that. No one overtakes where I live, they just get mad you aren't going as fast as they want so they try to rear end you and scare the hell out of you by constantly flashing their highbeams when tailgating you. Like sorry I'm going 60 in a 55 and you want to do 85. Just go around. And they don't. But then when I overtake someone, the person now decides to speed up and act like they're so cool and fast. Like no. Slow down so I can pass you because you were going 45 in the 55 and now you want to go 70? To prevent me from passing? Driving where I live is a constant battle to avoid being murdered.

Sadly I'm guilty of taking it a bit personally.

No, I find a lot of drivers are very generous and understanding. Not in all places, though. I know in what places people will be helpful and pragmatic on roads that weren't constructed well (a lot, in the area where I live) and where people will have no patience or generodity what so ever. I’ve been at an intersection waiting to turn left with a guy opposite to me in a left turn only lane. He wasn’t signalling. The light goes green we both start to move and he blows straight through and over a painted island. Only his speed clued me that he wasn’t going to turn. So even if it’s obvious what you’re _supposed_ to do, signalling helps declare your intent.

You obviously never drove in a big city. Here’s what actually happens if you use your turn signal to indicate changing lanes… every car in the lane you want to change to bunches up and prevents you from changing lanes forever. What you actually want to do when you change lanes is veer into their lane at the same time as you signal. This way, they know you’re changing lanes because you used your turn signal… and because you are already in their lane. And they can’t stop you, because you already did it.

Yup, driving test administrators around here have been using that second option. I've heard of several, but the worst one is someone who was failed for "performing unsafe maneuvers" by stopping for a J-walker who jumped out in front of the car... driver was flat out told that he should have run the person over if he couldn't a) do a properly signaled, and shoulder checked lane change to avoid the person, or b) move the vehicle out of a driving lane before coming to a stop. So now vehicular manslaughter is considered preferable to stopping in a driving lane when there are no other, better options available?

The city parked a garbage truck in front of a stop sign on my first test. The city then failed me for running said stop sign they were blocking. Made no mistakes on my test that was my fault. God I hated them during my second test.

I was failed for "not counting to 3 at the stop sign" and I "I stopped to softly" my instructor wanted "to get thrown back from the stopping force". I'm still looking for those in the driver's handbook.

No, they tell you that because you can't expect people to see you on a bike. They won't see you. So don't expect them to. I am a good driver but you know how many times I have almost pulled out in front of bikes that I didn't see in traffic? Not that bikers don't always expect everyone else to keep an especially close look out because they choose to ride hard to see death machines.

No, the slow lane is the fast lane because all the people who think they want to go fast are driving the speed limit or lower in the fast lane.

Down here in Mexico I've never seen anyone follow any set speed limit ever, you follow the speed of the cars which is normally above 20 to 40 km/h of the speed limit, you just learn to anticipate how other people will drive and it is somewhat mitigated by cities having a large amount of speed bumbs everywhere

@VaderxG when did i insult anyone, i was just stating how saw things were done here in Mexico, and to further explain, say look at my city i live in the outskirts and to get into town in one road the speed limit is 30 Km/h drivers will a lot of the times be going at 50-60 Km/h for that stretch and then there are speed bumps at the end to slow down, for pedestrians there are crossing close or on speed bumps so if you're using proper crossings and are patient its not super dangerous, and there are speed bumps everywhere apart from highways, depending on the road you can find them 8-10 meters apart so while people generally do go faster than the speed limit they are still fairly controlled in areas for pedestrians, if i complain about drivers its more commonly how little respect turn signals and lanes for entering and exits are respected, like in one place in my city where slowdowns are fairly common due to busses and other vehicles forcing themselves into a road merge when they were in the wrong lane for it, it causes lines and then more people wanting to avoid the wait do the same perpetuating the slowdowns

The rule of thumb for places like these is that you cannot begin to apply your brake until the end of the yellow light and the beginning of the red light form a pumpkin orange hue. Otherwise you are a crazy person and everyone flips you off. I get flipped off a lot. Yellow is the caution color.

someone did this to me just today. i was signaling to get into left lane as per usual work route and the car behind was way behind me when i checked my rear and i could tell they were speeding up just as they saw me trying to change lanes when it would have been far more practical for them to have just remained at the speed limit and let me get into the lane 🙄 that’s why i am careful changing lanes though lol i won’t do it if they’re forcing ME to speed like a maniac too

Oh I always speed up if someone uses blinker unless there's a place they could be turning to. If i let people in they sit in front of my car going slow. Learned from experience if you see a blinker speed up fast enough to leave a gal behind you.

@@rockyrocker23 If they were crossing from a sidewalk(which is illegal to do in a lot of areas, but not all), they use the crosswalk. If they were crossing from the road(which is legal everywhere), they use the same part of the road as cars do.

If you were riding your bike you shouldn't have been using crosswalks. Bikes are vehicles, they are supposed to use to road like other vehicles. Crosswalks are for pedestrians, not for people who think they can get the best of both worlds by getting all the benefits of a vehicle and all the benefits of being a pedestrian as well. Damn right if I see some asshole trying to use a cross_walk_ on a bike I am not going to stop. What you are doing there is illegally trying to pull your vehicle into a traffic lane in front of the car travelling on it. As a driver _you_ are obligated to stop and wait for the traffic to stop before crossing in front of them. In fact you aren't supposed to be using the sidewalks and crosswalks at all, but they never enforce it.

Well, you do have to be moving compared to the right lane, and if there's someone behind you who wants to go faster, then you need to move over and let them pass. It's not your job to enforce the speed limit for everyone behind you. There's nothing I hate more than people who get in the left lane and then just SIT there, blocking the road for everybody else - what do they think the left lane is for? Because it SEEMS they think it's for people who want to go just a teeny bit faster than the right lane to camp out in.

@@austenhead5303 I get where you're coming from, and I agree that you shouldn't be poking around in the left lane for long. I'm not a very fast driver and generally avoid the left lane. But what gets me is when I have to get in the left lane for just a few seconds to make a turn and people lose their minds because you're not going 100 MPH. Of course this is only on the smaller roads near where I live. There are no left turns on the interstates, so I agree that you should not be in the left lane on those unless you're going fast.

Still, the left lane is for overtaking slower vehicles. If there is a truck going 90-100 km/h in the right lane and I am going 130 or so, I will use the left lane to overtake it. Then I will go back to the left lane (but after a safe distance, not like 3 meters in front of the truck...). But there is always some macho going 160 or so who can see from far behind you that you are overtaking a truck or two, but still goes his 160 and slows to your speed literally 2 meters behind you. That is utterly unsafe.

What bothers me is that it’s not standardized I’ve been told by a lot of people that the test in my city is far easier than any neighboring cities, to the point where it’s almost impossible to book a test after noon oh, and people drive upwards of an hour to take the test As in people deliberately go out of their way to make sure their kid doesn’t need to know how to drive well, to be legally allowed to drive Idk if that’s poor parenting, or poor governing or just because it’s impossible to get around without driving

I envy you. My instructor was extremely choleric, and would instantly yell at me at the slightest mistake or oversight every driving session we had. Shit was way too stressful. I would easily pick getting into a car accident over having to endure those 20+ hours again.

I was taking driving lessons at the same time as my bf at the time and we each had an interesting character for an instructor and we’d describe them to each other. One day we were hanging out at my house and he had his instructor pick him up there. Instructor: “you know the girl who lives here?” Bf: “yeah that’s my gf.” Instructor: “I teach her!” Yeah turns out it was the same guy the whole time.

@@Riwillion oh man, you're giving me flashbacks here. I had one instructor like that, who never coached me into situations, but yelled and reached over to yank the steering wheel if I wasn't doing something right. And I don't mean yank the steering wheel bc we were about to crash. More like, if we were pulling up to an intersection to make a left turn, and he felt I wasn't far enough over in the lane, he'd grab the wheel and jerk it hard to the left, rather than saying "Ok, as you pull into the intersection here, you'll want to be as far left in the lane as you can be, so you can better see when there's a break in traffic coming." Or he'd grab the steering wheel when I was parallel parking, rather than telling me how to do it. Like, I was supposed to translate for myself what position the car was in, and why and how to replicate it the next time. I eventually told him that if he didn't learn to "use his words" (something they teach kindergartners) that I would need to switch to a different instructor. He got a bit better after that, but when I failed my first driving test, I decided to take a couple of in-car classes with a different. Two hours total with the 2nd guy taught me everything the first guy hadn't taught me properly in 10 hours. 2nd guy showed me diagrams of things, had me pull off the road so he could talk me through how he wanted me to approach the next intersection or parking job, etc. Night and day difference!

Almost certainly. I unsubbed from Screen Rant because of the constant stream of garbage in my feed with only the occasional pitch meeting. Now I just check in every couple months to catch up.

This vid was basically the convo between the two types of drivers in Rhode Island. Rule #1 for driving in RI is don't trust a turn signal. People either don't use them, or somehow manage to have them stay on for miles after the turn.
