We've all heard The Porcaro Shuffle, The Bonham Shuffle, and The Purdie Shuffle. It's 2009, time to usher in the new swing. Introducing The Druffle. Cheggit out. React accordingly.
Just because this is just a little bit beyond your grasp is no reason to get angry son, this groove flows beautifully, whether you can pick it up or not.
This one groove has sextuple bass hits, 3 over 4 china patterns, and a little 'in the pocket' style thrown in. Safe to say this guy just about covered it all...
OMG!!!!! I can't stop watching the first half of this video! That groove is nasty and your fills are super clean! And the ghost notes...SMH Great stuff!
you're right, I can hear it. I think I was thrown off because he cuts off the cycle early (the second fill is also a hemiola, I'm sure, but he ends it on the down beat).
the 0:24 part is a 3/4 groove with the china on the quarter notes,2 floortom hits on the and and A of 1, a snare one the and of 2 and the E and And of 3 (last 2 ghostnoted)
I'ma drummer also... Clearly he's on.. It's not the original shuffle, he added his own twist to it and smashed.. Just give em props.. I tried my best to listen for him to get off beat, but he never did...
evolution my friend, you just brought us a new brand of shuffles!!! Very good job, and i like the creativity!!! ill get to work! haha Cheers from Quebec city!
this is an extremly sophsitcated groove. it kind of irritated me at first that you played the first time slightly different from the second time during the very slow version. but as i wrote it down, it eventually became clear... GREAT WORK. the licks over toms and the china are also extremly nice. i wonder if you could upload a slow explaination to those, too.
this is how i wanna play. not when i grow up cuz im old. but i wanna play with the power and authority this drew guy does. right now i play with authority but not like this guy. its something to aspire to. amazing beat too. just testafyin to the truth.
The first time I heard this groove I wasn't into it but I listened to it again after a little while and I finally get it. :) I really dig it. It is very groove but made bigger by the kick placements. :) NY Drummer. It is meant to have that much kick. I am pretty sure that's the point of this groove is to add the kick accents where they are. There really wasn't random kicks in this groove. As for the China floor top chop, it was still in time which is pretty important. Nice work guys. :)
DUDE! this shit is what ive been waitin on, bro the DRUFFLE Groove is so in the pocket and crispy churches chicken good!!! and the fill in lick @ 0:13 was sweet and u came back n on time...... BIG PROPS
tell me about it. just ask thomas pridgen. he said he would literally sit at his kit playing 16th notes on his bass drum until his calve started burning.
Hey Drew! Nice badass, meaty use of the double bass drum chops! Love it man. Could you please write out like RKKLKK on the awesome part when you incorporate the china cymbal in the beat, especially the bass drum part? I’ve watched it a hundred times and can’t quite make out what your playing on the bass drum. Would really appreciate it! And keep rocking man! Great job again!!
