Lyrics: Before I die I'd like to do something nice Take my hand and I'll take you for a ride You hit me yesterday Because I made you cry So before we die, I'd like to do something nice I want to buy you something (But I don't have any money) (No, I don't have any money) I want to buy you something (But I don't have any money) (No, I don't have any money) And if I had a car I would trade in my car If I had a gun, I would trade in my gun Honey we ran from the country When we rushed to the city And now there's nothing to be done, there's nothing to be done There's nothing to be done, there's nothing to be done I want to buy you something (But I don't have any money) (No, I don't have any money) I want to buy you something (But I don't have any money) (No, I don't have any money) I want to buy you something (But I don't have any money) (No, I don't have any money) I want to buy you something (But I don't have any money) (No, I don't have any money) And I want to buy you something (But I don't have any money) (No, I don't have any money) And I want to buy you something (But I don't have any money) (No, I don't have any money)
Heard this for the first time tonight on CBC radio while driving from Detroit to Ann Arbor, MI. The key change between verse and chorus, the falsetto’d emphasis on “money” all just great. I can hear inspiration from Morrissey in the mopey vocals, Ian Curtis’ darkness, Vampire Weekend in its upbeatness and playfulness, and a little Strokes, especially the bass/guitar in the chorus.
Song is 12 years old, and I'm just hearing it. I loved it and can relate. Being broke sucks, in glad I am no longer struggling, but I loved how nostalgic the song made me feel.
I discovered this son yesterday (29/01/2024) I loveeeeeeee it! Engflish is my second language and the song is sooo easy for me, today i was driving fast and the song started, I realized the meaning of the song.
I used to listen to this song back when my family had nothing. My mom couldn't afford the things that I needed or wanted. Each time she refused to buy me something, I'd go to my room and listen to this song - and I remember, each time I hear the line "I want to buy you something, but I don't have any money" I'd burst into silent tears because I know that my mom feels the exact same way. We're in a better state of living now, but this song will always have a place in my heart.
Wait no way this song is 2011, I swear to god this song did not exist until 2024 to me, but the fact that it’s so up-to-date melodiously and vibewise just makes it timeless. Holy smokes how did I not hear this for the past 13 years? Mind extra blown!!
Im not ashamed to say i listened to this song 235x since ive heard it the 1st time 2 weeks ago. This is my happy song bc i feel it. Also im not the only one to just find this.
Man 9 years strong. I remember being a freshman smoking with my friends. Listening to this feeling like we were the coolest kids at school (definitely weren’t) happy to see A LOT of people enjoy the drums now
I loved this song when I was only 18… and now I’m about to turn 30. The nostalgia attached to this song makes me wanna smile and cry at the same time 😢
I've been googling "high pitched alternative singing guy" for 3 years with no results and I finally find the song randomly from a meme. That's insane dude
I had a very similar problem with Stand Up by the prodigy. Me and my mates spent years searching. Then one day I was playing Xbox with a guy who had music on in the background and he just told us it. Seemed anticlimactic after the hours spent searching in every nuck and cranny lol
@@frederikstephano2926 I barely even remembered that. It was playing in an Urban Outfitters and the song was just coming on as I was leaving, not to mention it was crowded so it was hard to hear
I only just found this the other day and listened to the whole album while I was driving. 2011... I can't believe it. Where the hell was I 🤷♂️ so damn good!
You know, I listened to this song when I really didn't have any money. Now, when I listened to her again a couple of years later, I could not hold back tears, remembering how my beloved rejoiced at the flowers from the field
this song gives me memories i never had, like sneaking out with friends and having the night of our lives just talking, laughing and running around all night on a hot summer day
It hasn't even been a year since I met this band. But every single time I hear this song I cry. The feeling of nostalgia and happiness that is gone always enters my chest listening to this, it is difficult to explain a feeling as strong as this. I fucking love you guys, thanks for making my life a little happier everyday
This is my favourite music video of all time, the muted colors, the lonely setting, all the frames of this music video feel absurdly nostalgic, and it was coincidentally realeased exactly 7 months after I was born.
I love this song, it just has a subtle vibe to it. I found it from those " album cover " RU-vid shorts but holy shit, this is some good shit here. Definitely adding to my playlist.
How is this song not presented with the whole album for a good measure as an absolute and definite anxiolytic is beyond me. You guys literally saved my life more than once. Love you very much.
