Walk-through of a Carolina Coops Duck Coop. It has a 12' by 6' run area with a 6' by 3' duck house. The duck house is on the ground, unlike chicken coops. The duck house has gas struts to open the top for easy access to eggs and easy cleaning. Matt also shows how to add polycarbonate run covers for the winter to protect birds in the run. The duck coop is made with the same craftsmanship and attention to detail that makes Carolina Coops a cut above all the rest.

I like the idea of the covers. We have to cover our barn in winter with tarps. We are planning on making sliding Japanese style doors on a track with a wood frame around a clear roofing material. Add some wheels and a hitch, to move it around the pasture. Very nice coop.

Something to add to your duck coops. Being hard to clean out would be HDPE to the sides like u have on your other coops. Up 6" so when u shovel it out it's not getting in the wall. Great design and look to the coop! I love all your coops.
@CarolinaCoopsVideos
@CarolinaCoopsVideos 3 года назад
Thank you. We did start putting HDPE in the coops, but it also makes it more slippery for the duck too, so we recommend lots of straw in there.

LOVE the design and quality, you guys clearly put your hearts into every aspect. I think I might even want to live in it myself! (Minor FYI: Douglas fir isn’t a pine... sorry, that’s the botanist in me coming out)😊

You are correct! Not everyone knows that "FIR" is a type of wood... there would be questions for days if we said we build out of "FIR", likely mistaken for "fur"... lol We try to target the everyday person... not always in he know of technical terms. Thank you for appreciating the difference in species! Thanks for watching!

That's pretty awesome! I bet (like you mentioned) you actually could also use that for a dog - or maybe a special coop for broody hens, so the chicks could get out when they're ready to explore without moma-bird trying to herd them up and down a ramp. Or a duck coop lol ;)

I looked over your website, which is very nice, but I do not see pricing for the duck coop. I am interested in a standard kit as I like it just the way it is on your video.

The duck coop was a custom build for a client :) Price point as is in the vid is $2400+ S&H it is pre fabricated and ready to finish when shipped out. The hardware cloth would normally come unattached on an unpainted coop so that it use easier to paint with a super nice finished look! Give us a call if you have questions or would like to place an order! 919.794.3989

I love you coops, and was excited to see the duck coop, as I'm seriously thinking of going in that direction instead of chickens. I have a question though....it doesn't look like this coop is set up for deep litter. Do you recommend that for ducks? If so, wouldn't it be good to have a clean-out door (Similar to the one on the chicken coops) for that? Also, with this lower coop, is there enough ventilation, assuming a deep litter system?
@CarolinaCoopsVideos
@CarolinaCoopsVideos 6 лет назад
Anne Tearse I have never used the deep litter method for ducks and I have been told duck droppings are not good for the deep litter method.

Just a suggestion. Run a trim on that roof edge. That metal is sharp.
@carolinacoopsservice7306
@carolinacoopsservice7306 6 лет назад
We do advise on using a small automotive trim material but for most its not an issue. The only issue with putting a trim on it is that it holds water and will cause the metal roof to deteriorate prematurely. Thanks for watching!
@smokeydabeecharlescoleman8365
@smokeydabeecharlescoleman8365 6 лет назад
I used a piece of vinyl siding trim. I will not hold water, and places a nice flat surface across the edge.

I don't understand what you mean when you say "douglas-fir pine." In the US soft woods account for the vast majority of construction wood and "pine" is the most prominent of the softwoods with southern yellow pine, western white pine, sugar pine and loblolly pine. You can also find "hemlock/doug-fir" or "larch/hem/doug-fir" which means that the softwood used for the lumber comes from a tree that is either in one of those species or has similar characteristics since all three of those trees are stronger than pine. There is a common mistaken belief that it's hybrid lumber from a genetic cross between the different trees, but they aren't closely related enough for that. I've never seen anything marketed as "doug-fir pine" in a lumber yard though.
@CarolinaCoopsVideos
@CarolinaCoopsVideos 5 лет назад
That was a mistake, it was meant to be 'Douglas fir', because that's the lumber we use.

Can Ducks use your Heater Water System with the nipples?
@CarolinaCoopsVideos
@CarolinaCoopsVideos 9 месяцев назад
Sure, but using the horizontal water nipples may not be a good idea. Duck's beaks are larger, so you can use everything that comes with the heated water system, except you might want to swap out the nipples for cups. Ducks also need to get their beaks wet more so than chickens for health reasons, and they need to be able to wet their wings, body, and preen oil gland so they can properly clean and waterproof their feathers. So, the heated water system should not be the only source of water they're around. In short, switching out nipples for cups and making sure your ducks have access to a larger body of water (possibly a kiddie pool or something that resembles that) will help ensure your ducks stay healthy.

Ya.... Love their ideas and videos but sorry guys.... When it comes to ducks you guys are missing quite a few HUGE issues when it comes to corralling these messy little devils. To small, door is TO SMALL (as ducks are dumb as hell and will cram 2 through then literally GET STUCK) and bigger yet..... not enough ventilation. Again great ideas for builds, but I wonder of you guys were farm / country born and raised and ever tended a flock of your own.
