Military + Discord degenerate = Leaked Documents.
Jack Teixeira is a 21 year old Discord user who worked in the Massachusetts's US Air Nation Guard. They had clearance to top secret documents pertaining to all aspects of politics. From war updates to who the US is spying on, Jack had it all at his fingertips. A normal person would keep these classified pentagon documents safe and secure. However, Jack Teixeira was a Discord user, and Discord users are DUMB.
To satiate his own ego and need to feel cool in his Discord server "Thug Shaker Central", Jack posted photos of these classified documents to impress, and the end result is definitely far from impressive.

He's never getting out of prison. Each document is an individual charge of treason and espionage. Legally, he could be executed as a traitor, they probably won't but he could. Even given minimum sentencing he's looking at over 600 counts of espionage and treason. Depending on how vindictive the government decides to be, this kid could die in a government supermax prison.

What makes me laugh the most is that he didn't leak these documents, because of some deeply held conviction that the public needed to see them, but instead he did it to get internet clout with a bunch of teenagers in a discord. It's somehow more silly than those people who leak classified specs of military vehicles on the war thunder forums.

Not sure here, but I believe i saw it written somewhere that he was part of the team that maintains the IT systems and therefore he probably had extra privileges... generally you are not allowed to print classified documents in these areas, and at a minimum it will register who printed what and when... so when things like this happen they at least will be able to find who did it very easily... truly only a dumb person would do such a thing and expect not to get caught...

The system works on two things. 1. Security clearance background check 2. Job position that requires access to SIPR or higher. That's it. Everything else is basically the honor system. The military works nothing like the movies. Oh, you have to take some really serious (sarcasm) annual online training too.

When I was in the navy, I had a secret clearance...but only ever saw a single document marked secret, and even my OIC had no idea what it was talking about...it referred to a previous document that neither of us had ever seen. Technically, I shouldn't have looked at it. I can't imagine having access to top secret stuff and being stupid enough to do anything at all with it that wasn't supposed to be done. The rationale is that his job would have him seeing, touching, and feeling classified info all the time, so he needed a clearance. His job didn’t have much to do with intelligence, rather just fixing DOD computer systems. Unfortunately, he was able to search intelligence databases and print documents from those databases without detection.

hes very likely going to serve that 15 year sentance after the Sentence he serves in the BRIGG. thats how the military works. you have normal laws and UCMJ uniformed code of military justice. and he broke a Plethora of those rules and laws. these trials are not very publicaly known about called court marshalls. so hes looking at 10-20 years in a Military Prison. and when he gets out with a dishonorable discharge and all benifits revoked. not to mention having to pay for EVERY PIECE OF GEAR AND UNIFORM ITEM HE WAS ORGIONALLY ISSUED. and turn it back in. NO MATTER THE AGE OF THE ITEM OR SCARCITY. so at the very least 4000 dollars. if he was issued stuff from CIFF could be as high as 15,000 dollars. AND THEN hes looking at 15 years in a normal prison.

As somebody who has had a security clearance, you also get a big course before getting the clearance, and you get follow ups at least once a year that basically says, "don't give out any information - classified or not. You are not public relations and it is not your job to determine whether you can or can't give out information, so redirect them to the appropriate departments and go on your way." They also try to convince you that having access to secret information does not make your wiener bigger (it does, though), and they then try to convince you that leaking sensitive information makes your wiener a full six inches shorter (it does).

It will be more than 15 years and this dude was running a cult, it wasn't just a group of gamers. He gave presentations of these documents and forced members to read them. The kids he brainwashed have talked to the media like idiots (with parental permission) and said they would not help law enforcement find the guy as well as other things that strongly suggests they see him as a cult leader and there could be sexual components because that level of brainwashing usually involves "love". The members may end up with 15 years, but the main leader who stole the documents should get about 3 times more to life. The member that reposted the documents to minecraft will be facing as much time as the cult leader. The fake russian lady that is just a us citizen who was discharged from the navy right before she shared the info will also see decades in jail. She is going to fall under the military UCMJ. The theme with these type of crazies is "a hill to die on" and sharing classified documents will be that hill. They will all enjoy prison now.

Depends. If he sent it Glenn Greenwald or Chris Hedges etc he would at least have had time to flee to some place like Yekaterinburg. 😂 But being an anti-einstein...there was no greater purpose. It makes me believe they likely figured him out long ago...when he printed the stuff..so they decided to use him as a dupe... Even printing this stuff requires a special printer, from a special access terminal and specific permission to do so on a NTK basis.

@@MuantanamoMobile yeah.. I was thinking the same myself... but I read somewhere (unsure here) that the guy was part of the team that maintained the IT systems, and therefore probably had extra privileges that allowed him to do this...

@@Gunnl They would still know he printed it. Everything gets logged unless you are the N-S-A director or at a similar level for instance, where you can wipe logs undetected. From his very poor OpSec you can see that He isn't that technically skilled or high level enough to have 100% access, with God--mode privileges like Snow had.

@@Gunnl Possible he took discarded printed paper from the waste bin, but I believe it's usually sorted to make sure its all there and then immediately shredded afterwards. So probably he took the paper...he was supposed to sort and check that was meant to be shredded.

@@MuantanamoMobile opsec is not only about technical skill... The only reason it makes sense he is in IT is because only IT people usually have more privilege than others; mainly because it is needed for their job and there is no other way around... The NSA director will certainly not have 'god mode' , he probably won't even know much beyond outlook, word and excel... And yes, as I wrote earlier they certainly know he printed it, however most other people probably need exemption to use the printer while he probably didnt, hence he could do it for a while without suspicion but it was certainly stupid from him to expect not being caught eventually
