😭🤣😂🤣😭🤔🤔🤔🤔🕵️♂️🕵️♂️🕵️♂️🕵️♂️🕵️♂️🕵️♂️, .... YEP I REMEMBER THE PT CRUISER I ACTUALLY WORKED ON A 2004 WHERE I HAD TO PULL THE ENGINE OUT DOWN AT LEESBURG FLORIDA WHEN I WORKED AS A MECHANIC FOR A GARAGE DOWN THERE WHEN THEY SHIPPED US A REPLACEMENT ENGINE WE COME TO FIND OUT NOW I WOULDN'T KNOW THIS BECAUSE THIS IS UNDER THE GUIDELINES OF TECHNOLOGY THAT THE CAM HAD A CODE, THAT HAD TO BE THE SAME ON BOTH ENGINES SO THEY HAD TO PERFECTLY MATCH WELL WE GOT A CAR ENGINE FROM JANUARY THE VEHICLE THAT WE TOOK THE ENGINE OUT OF WAS DATED FOUR SEPTEMBER AT THE END OF 2004.. THE END RESULT WAS IT WOULD START.... THE OWNER OF THE GARAGE THAT I WORK FOR COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT I'M JUST FOLLOWING HIS LEAD I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM TAKING OUTAGES AND PUT DIGIT IN THE WEATHER OR NOT OR HOW OR WHY THEY WILL OR WON'T START I COULDN'T TELL YOU...... I'M AN OLD SCHOOL MECHANIC GIVE YOU A $60 SUPER SUPER SPORT NOVA GET OUT OF MY WAY. GIVE ME A 403 ROCKET GET OUT OF MY WAY LOL YOU STARTED WITH THE TECHNOLOGY ON THE WRONG GUY..... LOL IN THE OLD DAYS YOU BRING THE CAR TO US ENGINE RATTLING A DOW ROD IS THE LOCATOR TOOL OF CHOICE. ... LOL OH GOOD OLE DAYS ..
Yeah, it's just like Bernie Sanders. Old, Beaten down, cheap, blown head gasket, fried circuit board and kept running by a bunch of people that don't know any better.
I had a 2003 PT Cruiser with the Woody look. I loved it. Had it for many years and found an old surfboard (and damaged) to put on the roof rack. It was so much fun.
Scotty, I a 2007 P.T. Cruiser I put 160,000 miles on my P.T. I never had any problems with that P.T. Cruiser bought it used off a lease needed car in 09 15,000 miles when I purchased it. I did have issues 2 years after purchase with A/C did research turned out it was $40.00 part, low pressure A/C switch on passenger side on receiver dryer. 110,000 miles replacement of timing belt and water pump. That was maintenance issue on 2.4 liter engines cost me $1,500. (Chrysler dealership did work) Gave me 12,000 mile warranty on work. Scott M.P.G really did suck best ever got was 29 mpg on highway driving 60 mph I had 4 speed automatic transmission. My had no Trim level designation.
I remember a workmate gave me a lift home in his PT cruiser and he told me the thing he hated most was the terrible turning circle. He wasn’t kidding. My street is wide enough to line two and a half Hyundai i30s end to end but his PT needed a three point turn. They are crap vehicles.
I was never attracted to the look of the PT, but I do own its close cousin, a Neon, made in Belvidere, not Mehico. It's a great little car, with the exception of torque. It must produce about 3ft lb at 3000RPM. Over 3000 it's a rocket. Only reliability issue I've had, was a leaky fuel injector dumping fuel into the motor.
I had a 1987 Renault GTA convertible, the owners manual stated 1 quort of oil consumed in 4000 miles was normal ~ that proves the engine is being properly lubricated. Fortunately the one I had used 1/4 quart between oil changes.
My last employer bought me one of those Pro Masters for my service vehicle. The sliding door fell off at 15,000, while on the highway. The transmission went out at 65K miles and the engine needed a rebuild at 110K. It ate tires for lunch and needed two brake jobs during my five years driving it.The headlamp bulbs go out about every 10 months and you have to disassemble the front grill to change a bulb. It rides nice and its front wheel drive but I swear that thing had almost as many vertical miles on it as horizontal. A real POS
I am sure the PT Cruiser is a real horror but in the UK back in the 70s we had the Austin Allegro. It was a car which was so poorly built, it had an under powered engine which leaked oil by the bucket load, if it didn't leak, it burnt oil, I'm guessing a quart every 500 miles when new was acceptable! It was noisy, underpowered and unrealiable. you had constant gearbox problems and the clutch cylinders and hoses constantly leaking. Moving onto the body which was so poorly put together that it had constant water leaks and wind noises, trim would fall off, inside and out. It featured a weird fluid filled suspension system which would have leaking cylinders which would often make the car lean to one side. A true European horror which I would compete against anything made your side of the Atlantic. The company which made it is, unsurprisingly, long gone and you can understand why. It's nickname was "The All Agro" for Aggravation, it was a very unpleasant car to work on, in fact, if you jacked the car up in the wrong place it was possible to bend the frame or body shell. Good riddance to it and no, I'm not a fan.
I bought a new PT Cruiser when it was released. One of the first in my area. It started my hate affair with Chrysler. I had it for 60k trouble-free miles and forgot what I did with it. I just didn’t like it was so slow and got such sub-par gas mileage. Thats funny that I dont remember how I got rid of it. Mine DIDNT totally suck.
I made the mistake of buying the GM version of the PT Cruiser the Monza Town Coupe. When I got married I sold my 1968 396/375 Camaro for that POS that had 84 horsepower
I think maybe the dumbest vehicle ever made was the Smart Car. For most people and situations they are completely inadequate and useless. Plus they have no resale value.
You have to just consider, are you planning to keep it a while, or do you often trade up to newer models? If you trade up every year, or two or 3 years or whatever as some people do, then sure, give it a shot. If you plan to keep it for a decade +, I wouldn't even mess with a truck with such a small displacement engine.
East Coast and the Keys of Florida are no-no areas to purchase a used car from, West coast of Florida is fine, on shore winds are strong on the east coast, almost non existent on the west coast.
The large ProMaster van is even a larger rolling piece of junk then the one Scotty showed us. Again really a front-wheel drive Fiat. My work made the mistake of buying many and they are constantly breaking down even starting in the first 6 months Transmissions, air conditioners, doors falling off excetera excetera excetera. 25% of the ones they purchased are in the shop at one time. What a bunch of junk
they had a trams issue, it was not so much on the step up, was on the step down, the gears would not mess quite right, if you were spinning out in the show or ice, they would thorough themselves out in a bad way, like total distinction
My wife had one of those junk 2.4 in her Cherokee. That piece of garbage burnt oil then it filled the the crankcase with fuel but according to the dealer that's all normal. Ended up dumping that POS and will never buy another Chrysler product.
178k is LOW mileage? A half a quart every 4k miles is a lot? I change the 🛢 every 3k in my '98 Chevy 3500 dually w/ a 5.7 and 212k. It is down 1 quart by then.
@@richsweeney1115 ? Instead of adding a quart, I change oil @ 3k. Oil is cheap, under $30 for a 5 qt. jug of synthetic. A NAPA platinum synthetic filter is $15. Last year I put under 1k on it. Thank Xiden for our again $4/gal gas and me on disability.
i live in Australia i own a 2003 nissan maxima and now i have an oil leak, is it common for these cars to get leaks and if so how much would it cost to fix?
I can't speak to if it's common for those cars to develop oil leaks, but as to how much it costs to fix, that depends on where the leak is. There are a number of places an engine may typically develop a leak, usually it will be a valve cover gasket, transmission pan gasket, front main seal, or rear main seal. Each of these are a very different repair, with a different degree of complexity to repair, so naturally, the harder the job, the more it costs. The first thing you need to do is have the leak located, then go from there.
I got PT for 900. It ended up imploding in my driveway. I never seen a car just dumped all of it's oil out on the ground. Did you see the guy that put a Hemi in one? LOL
One was given to me, transmission went south and i parked it, but kept syorage insurance on it. Packrats got into the wiring and insurance totaled it, paid me more for it rhan i could have sold it for if it was running.
Regarding car magazines' Car of the Year awards, I remember when Motor Trend declared the Chevy Vega "Car of the Year". Make you wonder if those "awards" are legit?
About 10 years ago I bought 2004 PT with a standard transmission for my kids to drive to school. First my son learned how to drive a standard, and then my daughter. She was pretty hard on it and one time there was a huge bang, the car jumped a little and stopped. I don’t know what happened exactly, but the car started back up and we drove it for a couple of years after that. Eventually, the transmission broke, but I can’t help think that it we were partially to blame for the way it was driven.
I cannnot stand the Chevy equinox/ gmc terrain. Also chevy Cruze boils my blood too. Worked on a Chevy Colorado the other day and was so unimpressed with the cheap interior.
I got a good PT Cruiser for my 16 year old that had 2 owners both retirees and older. Good solid vehicle so far. Replaced the engine mounts and tires he’s good to go. For $2500 good deal with flawless interior.
I bought a 2005 pt in 2013, sold it in february 2023...only problem i had was timing went bad. Got it fixed, sold it and to this day, the new owner is having zero issues with it. . I had good experiences with my pt.
PT was basically a Dodge/Plymouth Neon, which for what it was, was a good car. My daughter had a PT. Beat the living hell out of it with little care before selling it to her uncle on the cheap. It is still running today, since 2004. Over 200,000 miles later. Not a bad vehicle at all.
I love my PT's! I drove my first 5 year-old one and drove it for 10 years, and well over 100,000 miles with just regular maintenance. I've driven my 2002 one-owner dream cruiser, 3 years, to 117,00 miles, but have to retire her due to what the New York State winters and salt have done to the frame. She overheated once because I asked my mechanic to check the antifreeze, and all he did was check the level!! I am currently looking at my third one! I love driving my cruiser, and it's not slow! the auto transmission jumps right out and shifts smooth, and the little car really moves. It has more interior storage than a lot of SUV's. I'm wondering if this guy has ever actually driven one of these. I'll keep returning to the PT's as long as I can find one!
PT Cruisers were going for about $5,000 over MSRP when they came out. Kinda sounds like what’s happening in todays car market. People paying over MSRP for anything will regret it before very long.
My grandmother bought a 2006 brand new. She’s elderly and barley drives it. It only has about 70,000 miles on it today. A/c compressor is broke. Head gasket is leaking. Idk how with her rarely ever driving. Thankfully nowadays my family drives her around in there nice Toyotas haha
Yeah, MotorTrend 2001 car of the year! Reminds me of my 1776 MTCOTY: the Plymouth Volare! 🙄 Six recalls in the first two years, and didn't even cover production issues! COTY=POS?
They actually were made until 2010. I'm sitting in one now. ABS needs a $700 repair with 27,000 miles. Cruise control doesn't work. Door latch on back door sets of the alarm when you open the door. It gets 15mpg on a good day. Rough idle. Not sure if will make it to 30k miles.
Hey Scotty 2019? Hellloooo? Anyhow this Mexican bad quality - it's not exactly true, this is effect not cause. USA producers are going to Mexico for "savings"=lower labor costs and then in case "we cannot make like this because it's bad Q", Mexican department will receive answer from US central - keep the budget tight because we will close the project. The same with Chinese parts, they can be with good quality but price will be "not competitive", I know it because I was responsible for releasing engine parts for serial production, and I do know, you can produce wherever you want but price is always function of quality and time (cost, T, Q). In other words you can produce car with Japanese Toyota quality in China or Mexico but price will be the same or higher. SO it's not Mexican approach to quality but US management greed and short term thinking.
Got a 2009 Deawoo (chevy) echotech 80 000km/h made in mexico. Still running like new, whit no check engine. Weird luck for a lemon. I mean yeah plastic is falling apart but still no surface rust in 14 years.
If I was to have a PT Cruiser , and yes , they do look cute , I like the way they look , I will take the Motor , Transmission , Wiring Harness and Brain out , I would take a wrecked 97 to 2001 Toyota Camry , I would take that 2.24 cylinder out with everything I just described and put it in that PT Cruiser , then I would have the looks and dependability I want a car
2006 with 205,000 on my PT. Only normal stuff like tires and breaks, timing belt. Battery. Now it is getting to that point where I want a Toyota. Can't get parts. Keeping it together with duct tape and spit.
Had a 2001 PT Cruiser - never had any problems with it - drove over 100k miles and sold it only because I was moving overseas - got average on highway 25mpg
Toyota is the best don’t believe me watch “How to kill a Toyota 3 part video on RU-vid “. Honda, Mercedes, Ford don’t matter which manufacturer you choose they cannot do what that Toyota did. They are money savers in the long run. We are nearly at 100k on our Corolla and still has the original brake pads front and rear with no breakdowns. The just keep going.
A lot of wome who like Flea Markets and Garage Sales bought them. It was an ugly car as was the Chevy HHR but they sold for the practacality and the value. The PT is a great car for demolotion derby's I know.
I have a 2006 Chrysler 2.5 l Motor in it. But when I try to start it up half of the time, it make a grinding sound.. And once it is started, it start making a clunk Sound. What could be causing all of that? And then when i try to go over 70 the car will die.
