Provinces were kind of equal to 'states' in the Netherlands. The original meeting of the provinces was called the "States General". This is still what the combined houses of parliament are called. Most of the current provinces were states ('staten') in their own right, while some border provinces were controlled 'territories', very much similar to early American history.

"Stadholder" should be stadhouder. I appreciate you try to make it readable for international viewers but then you should just called them cityholder. Combining 2 languages in 1 word can be confusing.

the system of state goverment and national goverment still exist , De staten Generaal is still de dutch goverment with representatives from all 12 provinces . and even have privincial state elections . But the true dutch golden age its not its democratic or republican goverment or even its economic wealth or tollerance for other religions . Its all aspects International law , free oceans , science ,astronomie , biology , micro biology ,cartography , arts , inovations early industrialisation . that lay the foundation for all modern sciences and technologies . Also and this is verry important as the region where the dutch originated including belgium and luxembourg the origins of the Salian franks lay in the netherlands that gave rice to clovis , charlemagne . all progressive thinkers creating an empire that coverd the 6 founding members of the EEC /EU All where part of the carolingian empire , lotheringia , Hanziatic league . the dutch 16th and 17th century golden age . always was there it was the most wealthy region for almost a milenia prior to the dutch republic . There is more to the dutch golden age than just the 17th century .

This isn't a good video. He didn't explain why they were good at business and why they were a republic.
