The Dynamo Roller was completely broken upon launch, but it now sits as one of, if not the least used Roller in Splatoon. Why is this, and how did this even happen? Thank you so much for watching! Please, join my Discord: / discord
I used to be a dynamo main in 2. I loved it. It was so fun. In 3, my beloved got screwed. It got slapped with a bad kit, and the new movements made it already worse. I moved on to Stamper, which is the closest thing to it that’s actually good in this game. RIP dynamo, gone but not forgotten o7
That’s the dream, hopefully it gets a good new kit too. I’d like to say I do agree with the positive views showed in the 3 segment by the way, the buff is nice, but the kit just doesn’t work imo and the fact that squid roll negates dynamo immensely lets it down. If it gets buffed more though it may be good again, hopefully
@@PurpleSytheMusic I suggest you to use respawn punisher with it if you haven't already, once you die with the tacticooler there won't be any effect of the RP ability
Dapples has the same problem. Max run or swim speed on dapples is still fun however. But the kits it has aren’t very good. I’d like to see burst bombs or splat bombs on them.
Dynamo honestly feels a lot better post v2.1, and the arrival of the gold dynamo is inevitably close, given the model left in the files for it from 2.0 and all the promotion for it too. Dynamo's had a long and difficult road from it's fall from grace, but the rightful king of the rollers will return, and that day is inevitable. We haven’t seen the last of the Dynamo…
Uhh, y’all realize you could still horizontal jump flick by pressing ZR slightly before B. The addition of the vertical flick was never the issue. What they need to do is decrease the amount of frames each swing takes
the vertical flick, while comparatively a worse trade off from what it had to leave behind transitioning from 1 to 2, still allows the weapon to be helpful in engaging in longer ranged fights, with the 2.1 buff especially helping it out, now being able to hit two shots more consistently now
You can still absolutely get a jumping horizontal swing with rollers by hitting your fire button before your jump button. Timing isn't even that strict, and is progressively easier the slower the weapon's swing is. Because of this, there is really no way to see having a vertical swing on its own as a negative; just the fact that the horizontal range was needlessly nerfed.
So, I had never played dynamo roller in splatoon 2, it was just never ky style back then. When the splatoon 3 test fire came out I changed my tune quite quickly. I struggled greatly with my old splatoon 2 main, and wanted to try out new weapons. I tried splatana and bow, but just couldn't get into it. But then I tried dynamo, and I fell in love. It's been my new main ever since. Now, I've never really gotten into competitive splatoon much (never even gotten into x rank since I usually have alot going on, only ever reaching S+ over many years). I would like to, but I haven't yet. I can't speak on what is viable in competitive, what makes a good kit,, and I'm not very good at different strategies or much of what makes a good competitive player (though I'm trumping to work on it). But what I do know, is I do pretty damn well with a dynamo roller in Splat 3. Now, this could be because I've basically played no other weapon, and have devoted myself on learning the dynamo and how to effectively handle and use it in different scenarios, but I digress. You make alot of great points in your video about why the dynamo really isn't at it's best now -- especially compared to Splat 1 (even if it seems to be getting better now) -- but I still can't help loving this weapon, regardless of it's faults (not that you're saying people can't). I think there is no real bad weapon. I mean, obviously some weapons are worse than others objectively, but still. I think any weapon (at least in Splatoon), regardless of the meta -- especially if it's bad in meta -- can be amazing. Because if something is considered bad in the meta, and you love it, it pushes you to learn it. To figure out what you're going up against, and how to combat it. How to effectively utilize it and fight other players. It pushes you to train, and work harder so you can actually succeed. The dynamo roller, regardless of it's flaws, will always be loved by me. And, personally, I'm gunna keep fighting to succeed with it. Is that kinda cheesey? Probably. Probably a bit ranty too, but whatever. Just felt like putting my opinion out there.
Squid Roll in Splatoon 3 affected Dynamo pretty significantly, too. It gives you more mobility with the horizontal flick, which is needed, but other players can use squid roll themselves to survive your ohko hitbox…
As a Dynamo main, I don't funny agree with everything said in the video. I didn't play much Dynamo in Splatoon 1, so I won't pretend like I know what I'm saying. However, I have been using Gold Dynamo in Splatoon 2 since late 2019, so I've had a lot of practice with it. While yes, vertical flick is not as good as horizontal, hearing you say at 3:03 how you say "Horizontal flick needs jump for extra range, but vertical flick replaces it". Not fully true. Simply swing while grounded, THEN jump for the extra range. I find that vertical flick is mostly used for painting and poking, while horizontal is used largely for combat, along with painting. I know as a Dynamo main, I know that Dynamo is not the best weapon, and the section on Splatoon 1 highlighted just how great it used to be, but I enjoy using the weapon, faults and all (Edit to fix grammar)
I really hope Dynamo gets a better kit with the Gold version. Maybe something like Splat Bomb + Big Bubbler, or maybe Burst Bomb if they want to give it an easy way to take out Torpedos which are a pain for the main weapon.
Dynamo in 3 is great. It's kit is also great. It does need more options but Tacticooler works wonders on it. Especially in rainmaker or clam blitz. X 1800-2000 player speaking here btw.
it's kit is NOT great wdym, tacticooler is fine as it gives it increased movement capabilities but sprinkler is just really bad on it. I miss Booyah Bomb on it
Next kit will most likely be the gold dynamo with splatbomb and Tri strike (a call back to splatoon 1) it seems the most likely since ink armor doesn’t exist no more but inkstrike/Tri strike does
I'm a lifetime dynamo main. I've seen it from the first game until now. The worst thing they ever did to the Dynamo was add the vertical flick. Accidentally perforforming a vertical flick is often a death sentence, and although you can still jump in the middle of a horizontal flick, you don't retain the same momentum you used to when doing it because of the fire-first slowdown. The big thing I disagree with here is that nintendo's not made any real effort to balance the weapon since 2.. I understand this mans gotta end a video but damn nintendo hasn't done crap
As a main of the Dynamo Roller, I truly hope they give it the Aerospray PG kit from Splatoon 2 (Burst Bomb & Booyah Bomb) I think it would help it! Like help it a lot.
i miss the kensa dynamo roller from 2. i still use the dynamo roller in 3 but its a bit icky to use sometimes. i still will main it but im waiting for a better kit
The dynamo roller is actually really solid now as a weapon after the buff it’s gotten, the only thing holding it back is it’s kit. My prediction is the next dynamo will be the gold dynamo roller since there’s already screenshots of it, and the kit will have splat bomb and tri strike(a callback to splatoon 1). Idk why but out of every prediction I feel like this one seems the most likely, especially after the tri strike buff and the dynamo doesn’t have a damage sub/special.
@@unl3ash3d95 that’s a good point I didn’t even think of that, that made me start thinking of a mix between tempered dynamo and gold dynamo, like point sensor and tri strike or splatbomb and killer whale, but who knows Nintendo could very well just make an entire new kit for gold dynamo, we will wait and see
@@bombpwr Burst Bomb and Ink Storm, this needs to happen someday. Just imagine how cool it would be to combo with the chip damage of the storm, and have increased mobility and ability to finish off weakened opponents with burst bomb.
@@babywizard9027 I’m all for the special, I think ink storm would pair well with dynamo in general due to the paint output and it’s an underused special right now despite being solid, but not sure about the sub just because that’s such a scary bomb to give to a dynamo roller, sooo much combo potential I feel like it would make the other dynamos outclassed or not worth using
I still main dynamo to this day, but I am still looking forward for a better kit with a low ink consuming sub (don't judge me I am indeed referring to line marker) and a defensive special (big bubbler, killer whale, idk). Still love my instant zone claimer.
when dynamo gets the ink mine + booyah bomb kit that i know it will have deep down in my heart the usage rates for that thing are going to go crazy trust me
@@jacobcats_spl My dream kit for Dynamo would be burst bomb+Ink Storm, or burst bomb+wave breaker. Both of those specials would help it support the team while dealing chip damage to opponents, Dynamo excels at defeating weakened opponents, since it's swing will kill from much further away than usual. Think about it, if the opponent is inside the storm for even a second, your OHKO range against them is effectively increased, you'll have no problem taking them down with flicks or burst bombs. And Wave Breaker does the same thing, while also being a throwback to the OG Splatoon 1 Dynamo Roller that had Echolocator. The 45 damage Shockwaves would combo very well with the Dynamos flicks or burst bombs.
@@babywizard9027 ideally dynamo should run booyah bomb rather than storm or wave because it can have booyah armor to help it survive better, something that dynamo struggles with. also, why give dynamo a special that it uses to combo off itself when it can just combo off of it's teammates specials? seems like giving it a combo-based kit is a waste when dynamo cant move like cjr can, meaning it cant as easily benefit from a forward-play special. +they wouldnt even give us burst+booyah because that would just be a much more ink-efficient kdynamo, something that was already really good last game. same reason why we will likely never see burst bomb on slosher or tri ever again
The weapon still needs buffs. It could do with more ramge for the horizontal flick, and i really want to turn that damned vertical flick off. Or be able to cancel it, it really sucks.
The next kit will most likely be gold dynamo, splatbomb, tristrike It’s a call back to splatoon 1, ink armor doesn’t exist in the game now and dynamo doesn’t have a damage sub/special yet
they like to shuffle around the callbacks to old kits a lot too so it wouldn’t surprise me to see wail or torpedo/autobomb on the gold dynamo either (maybe even add a 3rd kit?)
@@jden_224 I could see the gold dynamo dropping in the next weapon set release or the next one after that, then probally later down the line we will see the 3rd kit, most likely the tempered dynamo which I could see with point sensor and the new killer whale, another callback to splatoon 1 lol, you do make a good point though, I could see different sub weapons instead
Point sensor on dynamo roller would be brutal cuz it already has a non-weapon sub (sprinkler) for splat 3 vanilla kit. I don't think any dynamo's in splatoon 1 have point sensor but vanilla dynamo had echolocator was the special move version of the same thing
Thats BS, id argue that Dynamo roller is one of the weapons that requires the most skill in the entire game. Its so slow that you literally need perfect positioning and awareness in order to function. Even the smallest mistake will get your punished HARD because of how slow you are, one missed flick, one time you get stuck in ink, one time you get caught off guard, and youre going right back to spawn. Its not easy to use a weapon with such extreme weaknesses, since you have to learn to accomodate and circunvent these weaknesses, and even then, good players will be abl;e to exploit these weaknesses easily.
i dont think you're very good at dynamo lmao. it has many, MANY issues but you didnt really address them properly. also the splat 1 footage is all of krak on roller. why????
