A story about about wildlife photography and friendship in the outskirts of a modern world.
When I visited Sweden to photograph eagles, I had no idea I'd find my passion for red squirrels, a career as a wildlife photographer and a best friend 40 years old than me.

March, 2024, since finding this channel, catching up on several of your videos a day and this one I think must go back towards the beginning of what has become an incredible journey. Northern Sweden is so beautiful, the cliche of "Winter Wonderland". The resident creatures beautiful, and the photography beautiful. I think it is wonderful to be able to have such a dream and make a career following that dream, and helping the creatures we share this planet with as well. Hope you are successful in saving Squirrel Wood".

I has seen 2 of Your videos, this one and that of three 4 young squirrels, I love both, the nature the animals, and the tranquillity of You, the nature and of Conny. As a Swede my self, from the southern parts, It is always a joy to see these great areas of forest, without interupption from human activity, I will start to subscribe on Your channel. THANK YOU!

Thank you Dani. Och tack Conny! I grew up in Stockholm, then Göteborg, then UK where I have stayed. The Sweden you talk about is the wild Sweden i really miss. Your photography is photography at its best, ie when photography itself comes a distant second after the subject of nature and the experience of being immersed in it. Beautiful and inspiring.

What a great video Dani! Real friendships are not bound together by age but by a common interest. The more experienced friend is a library with open doors to the other friend. When time runs out for the library, the doors will close for ever. My best friend is 45 years younger than me & most people just don't get it but that's their problem.

I am so happy for you to be able to experience this wonderful experience. The two of you with a vast difference in age, yet able to learn and share. I’m 71y.o., lucky to experience lots, however in the last year discovered wildlife photograph, now my life has slowed, when I hike it is no longer a quest to get from point a to b, now it’s a journey to discover and appreciate as much as I can along the way. Nature is a tough survival for every plant and animal, each is only trying to survive and reproduce.

Nice to hear the Swedish language! I understand most of it. Being Danish helps because the languages are extremely similar. The funny thing is that most Danes only understand about 22% of spoken Swedish, and Swedes only understand about 11% of spoken Danish, so when we interact we tend to resort to English. The reason I understand more is because I've sung a lot of Swedish songs, by Bellman, Wennerberg, Sjöberg, Adolphson and others. I've seen a Kongeørn only once: 6 April 2017. Unfortunately I was at work and had no time to photograph it.

Absolutely stunning! I've been a wildlife videographer / photographer / camera trapper for years and I'm so inspired by Dani's channel. Can you teach an old Dog new tricks ? I'm living proof. Love the tutorials on kit and composition. Never been one for social media sharing unless I've had a few, but maybe it's time this old fart tried to share some of his amazing experiences too. Dani's channel is going to go mainstream one day, 15k to millions of subscribers, it will be well deserved. Best of luck Dani.

I've not seen many great quality wildlife documentaries on youtube thus far, but I can't imagine many, if any, are as superbly done as hers. She doesn't deserve her own youtube channel ... she deserves to have her own show. Watching her documentary of the red squirrel kits reminded me of the US television program "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom" which first aired from 1963 to 1988. Dani's talent's, patience, and maturity far exceed what I would expect from someone so young, and I look forward to following her.

After watching another video here, (breaking my heart) the current trend to kill adult Otters, steal the babies, and the flourishing market to sell them as 'pets', (wrong!! doesn't even cover it, words just can't) .... your video's are mending my heart. This is exactly how we should respect wildlife, and interact with them, as the Red's did with you guys, by choice, patience and love. Thank you. I subscribed to you Dani, can't wait to see more of your work.

When people say that animals do not have emotions - I don't think that they understand that animals are capable of great emotions, but unlike us they don't have the luxury of acting on that emotion. Try and condense animal behaviour only to instinct, to urges and fight or flight responses is not very only demeaning, but also very shortsighted. We see emotion in domestic animals the most as they are under our protection, and are less under pressure to survive than wild animals. Do animals feel disappointment? You can see it clearly when you have the dog in the car and you end up at the vet and not the park. But if you look at penguins - if they drop their egg during the transfer from male to female, the disappointment is so great that they never look at each other again and never mate again. Or when an old matriarch brings her herd to a watering hole but finds it dry. She leads them on elsewhere as they don't have the luxury of wallowing in that disappointment. Never forget that we are still animals
