Today we pause and look at the early Neo-Assyrian army itself, the arm of the empire that was doing all the conquering. It is an infantry focused force, but we also have some to say about the world's first cavalry forces, as well as the prestigious but declining chariot. Sprinkling in some of what we know about Assyrian military tactics, strategy and psychology, we can see that the success of the army in these early years is not due to any one greatest strength, but instead the overwhelming dominance of the Assyrian military is a wide variety of fields.

I am not saying let’s impale some mofos but i think too much empathy and sensitivity made humankind soft and vulnerable to trauma. Death, even killing (for example among animals) is part of life. Accepting this, instead of hiding it may make us stronger.

word. raising a kid on pure Disney and dino nuggets is as good as raising him in a darkened room to protect his eyes. makes for a nasty surprise when he eventually totters out into the sun. most of humankind is still happily traumatizing their kids, though. seems to be a specifically western problem, wouldn't you say?

i think there's at least a cultural if not (*gasp!*) a genetic component to this warrior attitude that is still very much alive and kicking in the middle east. greets from Israel! lol

I would not doubt it. All around the world, warrior attitudes have tended to hold a competative advantage against pacifist attitudes in the less stable parts of history, which of course is most of history and pre-history.
