MADEIRA PORTUGAL is famous for hiking. Many people travel to Madeira for hiking because the hiking in Madeira is so good. The best thing about hiking in Madeira is that there is something for everyone. From very challenging hikes to very easy hikes. But both can be equally beautiful and rewarding. Today I want to show you the easiest hike in Madeira, or rather, the easiest Levada in Madeira. Levadas are irrigation channels built over the island to bring water to the drier areas. They now provide some of the best hiking in Europe, with 100s of options all over the island. It is not easy to choose the best levadas in Madeira but this one usually makes the list because it is so easy and because it has a beautiful view at the end. It is perfect for kids, families or if you want something short and easy levada walk. This levada is called PR11 Levada dos Balcões (levada dos balcoes).
This is the best levada for beginners in Madeira.
After walking the levada, I take you to eat at a local restaurant in Madeira which serves traditional Madeiran food.
Just a note, the video quality is not the best it could be because it was such low light when I got there. I went early to avoid the crowds and only had my phone which me to make it easy to film, but it is a lesson learned for next time. I hope you enjoy the video anyway.

Os Balcões does get very busy as it’s normally included in many of the east island tours, presumably as an introduction to levadas; the trout farm there is also worth a visit. Great video and general all-round good vibes, keep up the good work Joe!

sometimes rain and cool temps give a nice break from the heat haha. I am in a place where it is 42/43 degrees Celsius now. I would take that.

Loved seeing the birds taking seed from your hand. I wouldn't enjoy being jostled along the path with people going the opposite way to the balcony. Quite steep drop down😬 As for that prego , the crunch and amount of garlic butter. Delicious Thanks for another fantastic video 😊😊

What time of the morning do you call early? What time did you leave Funchal? Can you go any day of the week? You do a wonderful job of selecting great background music. It fits the tranquil setting. Thanks for sharing ❤😊

I got there at 08:30 I think, maybe 8. I mean, it is beautiful as the sun is coming up and that changes as the year goes of course. it is open all week, I mean, it is fine with others on it, but you won't get that special feeling.

This is a lovely walk Joe. We'll do it soon, and start in early morning as you suggest to see the views on the way and to enjoy Balcoes when it's quieter. I use my walking stick mostly to balance around mud puddles and narrow patches on the levadas... I appreciate what you do. Thanks for sharing.

I think I got there at 8am, or 08:30. But it depends on when the sun is coming up I guess, it is nice that time of day I must admit. But sure, Madeira is so busy now, you want to beat the crowds wherever you go and that usually means getting there early

good question, I am not entirely sure as I have a motorcycle. But you can find all the bus information online, it is usually pretty good. it takes about 30 mins by motorcycle to get there. It is a simple route, but obviously buses will be stopping
