Back to basics! Matthew invited Spike to walk some field permissions he has and they had a pretty good day. They even explored an Indian mound with a confederate soldier buried on the top of it. They covered quite a few miles and picked up some nice artifacts so come along as we get back to our roots.

I remember in the 70's dad got permission to hunt a pasture that was just plowed up for the first time. The old maps had the field labeled as a buffalo wallow. We found a couple banner stones, axes and hundreds of points. It was exciting day walking out of that field with two pockets full of arrow heads. We still find something in that field ever year since then.

Seeing this brings back precious memories for me. My grandad and I use to hunt arrowheads back in the 70's and I loved every minute of it. Spending time with my grandad was priceless. My luckiest find was not a whole point, but the back end of the point I decided to put in my stash and I walked about another 50 plus yards and found the front end of it to make it whole. What are the odds? Grandad and I used nail aprons from the local lumber store to carry our finds in. It was a wonderful time.

When I started watching Heartbreak Relics I hadn't started looking arrowheads, but you all inspired me to start. My mom had given me her collection many yrs. ago, and had always loved reading about Native Americans and sharing her knowledge of that with me growing up. So your videos and the information that y'all shared along with all the tips you showed, helped me be successful in my endeavors. I love all the videos and the cool places you go, and the guys that y'all share the artifact hunting with. Thanks for being educators, and great role models. 💖

He's a real "stickler" for finding those points! And that was a really good hunt too. When I was around 6 years old we lived in northern Arkansas and I remember finding a beautiful obsidian point with near perfect symmetry just laying in the middle of "Sugar Creek". It became the prize of my collection. Soon there after a family came over to visit our family and the kids came in my bedroom to play. I turned around as one of them said "Hey look! It's flint. I can make sparks". Before I could say anything I saw him strike that obsidian point against another...breaking it in two! Sugar Creek, you broke my heart!

Cool video. I lived in east Arkansas for a lot of 62 years and there are mounds around there, and yes not all are burial mounds, most aren't. I've found thousands of heads and other artifacts walking fields. Also if get out in flat field and squat down and look around 360 degrees and see the high spots at close to ground level as possible look there, thats where a possible Indian settlement was, to be above the high water that would often flood the region. Also along rivers and Streams often in the bends and dog legs of the streams. I'm a addict going on 50+ years now keeping my nose to the ground. Keep up good work!

Tobacco fields where I'm from are literally the best. They trench and flip12 to 14 inches.....let it rain and they are laying everywhere. The last time I went out I found one the width and length of my hand. My brother in law who is an avid hunter collector said because it was so ridiculous in size that it was most likely a ceremonial piece. I have about 150 other points but unfortunately no time now to hunt. I look at passing fields now like teenagers look at girls....I just mutter ....damn that's a good lookin field

Hey Neighbor!! I hadn’t really thought about it before but I guess the Indian Mounds are common. I lived near A couple when I lived in Arkansas . (It does my soul good to see the familiar fields and landscape. There’s nothing I can think of off hand that’s more relaxing) The mound that was near me went straight UP! I’m going to guess and say 30-40 ft? It had some huge trees planted there and also was A Cemetery with maybe A dozen gravesite’s that we could see. Lots of flint at the base and in the fields. We didn’t stay long. The horses were real restless. They sensed or maybe saw A Bobcat . Ya know what though, there was another old Cemetery we’d ridden along the edge of and the horses got spooky there too. That Cemetery also had old Graves, but of Slaves in it instead . There was A old Plantation you could see from it. About the only thing I don’t miss from there would be the Mosquitoes (state bird lol and humidity)

Thanks for watching and for the great comment. Indian mounds are fairly common and before the industrial revolution were much more common. So many of them were leveled after heavy machinery came along and made it easier to do. In many cases the soil was used by state and local governments for fill dirt. Thanks again and take care.

When we were growing up the winning combo was a good heavy disk job, then a good heavy rain. Dad said if we find any flint, it's an artifact, flint wasn't native, they'd have to trade with the Indians up near Erie. Come up with some nice blades over the years.
@HeartbreakerRelics

That's right. They're all artifacts and a plowed field and some rain are an artifact hunter's friend.

I live ten miles from Cahokia, on the old National Road (trail) and though an outdoors man, I've never found a single artifact.. but I never knew how to look for them before. Thanks - I better get busy.

That's a huge ceremonial mound. It may have had smaller mounds on top that have been lost over the years. There is a mound I know of in Madison Parish which also has white eye graves on top of it.

Had a friend turn me on to artifact hunting years ago. That's one thing he told me to look for were flakes. If you find flakes you'll find points. In western SC. points are everywhere. I look at it as a time machine.

It's probably the closest we'll ever see to a time machine.

Out here in Utah my grandsons and I went out looking for artifacts, we certainly found a whole lot of them. But it was all just broken beer bottles wine bottles of whiskey bottles. We didn't find any stone artifacts that would have been illegal

There were falls in the Columbia River called celilo falls, so many salmon below those falls it supported many tribes of Indians. They say there was an 8 mile long encampment on both sides of the river making it the largest town in America for who knows how many 100s of years. The paths beside the rivers. Several inches deep in solid rock. Artifacts, paintings and carvings were everywhere. I happen to grow up there to young to understand why the Indians were so upset about dynamiting those rock formations before building the Dalles dam and covering the falls and most spawning grounds for salmon. They also say the once mighty Columbia supported the largest salmon runs on the planet, with dried salmon found as far away as the Yucatan penenencla.but we fixed that, all for the bpa promise of cheap electricity for life..

I have been encouraged the last few years to see where they are removing some of the damns around different parts of the country and restoring the streams to their natural state. Maybe they will do the same up there.

Nice area and nice finds Spike! When you're hunting for points like this in plowed fields, would you hunt the same way for points in any state in North America? I live in Western Wisconsin and I'm wondering if I should hunt the same way where I live just like you do in this video. Thanks

Going to hunt Palo duro canyon my friend who hunted arrowheads stopped to see a old man.Joe said I once knew a guy with a Clovis axe head. The guy reached down and picked up one in the floor. He had another one and a room full of artifacts. He had an effigy of an Aztec face on a rock about 3 inches square. This probably meant there was trade between Texas panhandle and central Mexico. The area had much flint.Asked where he found his things all he said was "in the canyon".

My dad and I plowed up a field to plant a food plot for deer. Put a corn feeder down, planted the feild and a couple months went by. A few days ago he went to check the camera and there was an arrow head just laying under the deer feeder.
