UPDATE! Apparently this kit was just updated to have a metal shielding attached that can be removed to access the board, but the screen is also laminated now so you can't remove the screen lens like I did. Aaaaand now they have a new listing on AliExpress with the red lens so that screen died for nothing RIP. You can grab the red lens version here: tinyurl.com/mv7xk8fz If you are a part of the 99% who are gonna leave the screen lens alone, the installation process is the same. You just don't have to assemble the screen anymore. It’s actually even easier for you guys now!
@@andyc7777 I was able to get one for $90 US and it came with a charger and game. I think prices on the collectors market have been going up as a whole recently though
Getting tired of waiting for my buddy to get around to modding his SP. So I just ordered one of these kits for him. Affordable, simple, and will definitely be worthy upgrade for his childhood AGS-001. Now, if only it were an AGB-001, then it would be truly awesome. lol
Jake, love the videos. I want to keep my oem shell and buttons but still want to upgrade the screen. Is this the best option for that? The screen does look a little off centered
Dude your SUBSCRIBE button started glowing when you said subscribe. Is that a manual feature in RU-vid studio you added, or is this something new RU-vid has added on their end?? Either way, new sub from me!
With the SP’s buttons you need to be careful. You don’t want liquid seeping into the dome switches. I recommend getting a toothbrush wet with IPA and cleaning the board that way. I would still avoid the buttons though. Also, no liquid around the screen
Wait so I just got a famicom gameboy and would love to keep the red screen would it be possible to peel off the screen like you did to a ITA screen from retro gaming repair shop? I’ll just make sure to heat it up so it will peel easily
Idk if it's just me but you're website doesn't seem to be working for me. It goes to it but there's nothing to click on. Lots of just empty black spaces.
You’re amazing man!! Modding 2 of my personal gba sps and 1 of my personal gba. I’ve been watching your stuff for weeks now and I can’t wait to start modding. Do you recommend any battery mods for the SP since it’ll be using the IPS and battery drainage is a concern of mine? Again thanks for everything! I subscribed on my first watch lol
@@Seveinis thanks for the kind words! Hope it all goes well! You can join the discord for help if you get stuck. And as far as battery mods, I don’t really mess with batteries since they can be dangerous for you and the console :/ battery life is just par for the course
Jake man love the videos got me an SP didn't know if it worked I had to buy a charger well when I plug it in the light flashes for just a sec and will not hold charge so I bought battery and it is on the way any other advice or is my sp fried also the original battery does not seemed to be bulged if ya see this and reply Thanks much my dude!!!
@Jake Simmons yoJake battery came in today and that was the problem old thing fired right up now time for this mod wish me luck! I feel lile watching your videos I got this mod in the bag so I hope!!
@Jake Simmons jake idk if you'll see this but another question I got the battery and when I plug in the charger the orange light comes on for a second and off would I need to replace the charging port? I can't seem to find a video on it if you have one. Thanks agin
@@badguyfishing2344 I’m working on a video that goes over all of the most common game boy issues across all of the models. There is a section about the charging issues on the sp. I’m trying to get it finished for tomorrow but it’ll probably be delayed until next week
@@badguyfishing2344I would actually join the discord (link in description) and ask for help there. I’m restructuring my video to be separated into one video per model and the SP one will be a little while longer. So in the meantime, I recommend joining the discord so me or someone else can help you because I don’t want to keep you waiting for my video
