I started feeding raw,frozen beef bones when they are teething. I work with local butcher,so lucky they eat deer,elk, home raised turkey,chicken beef,lamb,goat,pig meats. I grow a garden for their veggies and fruit. My great Pyrenees has issues with poultry, I will give her salmon raw,on poultry night.

Congrats on the partnership!!! My questions for the raw feeding Q&A- What precautions are taken to avoid pathogens in raw food? How do we handle it safely to avoid giving dangerous amounts of bacteria to our dogs? What are things to watch out for- how do we know what raw foods we Shouldn’t give our dogs?

I love the sneaky camera flip at the end so you're pointing the right way haha. Switching to raw food was one of the best decisions I ever made for my pups. I switched my Corgi to raw when she was about a year old, and it made such a huge difference for her, especially now at 11 years old! And then my almost 5 year old Toller is a 7th generation raw fed pup! Really fascinating observing the differences! We usually use Answers' Pet Food but we're excited to try out Oma's with your promo code soon :)

“Ooo, lamb lung!” 😂❤ Yes I have and this approach (thanks to you!) has been a welcome change for Trip! I LOVE learning new ideas for keeping a dog mentally & physically healthy that *don’t* require epic exertion on my part-so my next-dog breed choice won’t necessarily be (too) limited by my health status. Happy to say Trip’s got a lotta life in ‘im yet! But I do hope to someday start & train a new pup RIGHT-the DoggyU way-when “succession time” inevitably comes.

Congratulations on your partnership 🎉 I love my Kongs and so do they for various reasons ❤ I’ve always wanted to feed raw, but the closest I’ve come is freeze dried One of my dogs is epileptic, so I have to be careful about proteins and lots of other triggering ingredients, not to mention the cost My question would be how do I feed all 3 types of foods ( raw, freeze dried raw and kibble) safely and figure out the correct daily intake with using all 3? Also curious what brand of kibble do you feed?
@DoggyU
@DoggyU 4 месяца назад
Disclaimer - this is what I feed and not what you should necessarily feed your dog. Consult with a vet :) Because I primarily use kibble for training, I have a variety of brands and types that I use. Here are some of the staples, but they rotate: Go!: This is typically my staple that gets other kibbles mixed into it. This is the formula I use: amzn.to/3US4tqb Ziwi Peaks Honest Kitchen Kibble HealthyBud Meal Bites (affiliate link): healthybudus.superfiliate.com/DOGGYU Rawwble Vital Essentials But I also try out new things if I like them. I feed a really varied diet with my dogs, along with the raw, dehydrated raw, and a bit of fruits veggies and meat from the meals we're making. Hope that helps!

Question for the raw feeding stuff: What are some good dog food toppers/supplements that will help the dog with coat,skin,and digestion?

Hi Laura, I recently discovered you and am a big fan of your stuff! My question is about where and how you feed your raw filled toys. I notice some towels/Rufflands but was wondering…how do you keep things tidy/hygienic? My last dog was fed partially raw, but I usually fed it outside. When I put the frozen raw toys on her raised bed(or other inside elevated surface) I found it would leak through the towels, and washing the towels and beds each time she ate didn’t seem practical 🤣 I want to feed my new puppy raw and would love your tips on this! I was thinking primo pads with towels on top? And then do you wash your towels every time? Maybe I’m too paranoid 🫣Any advice greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

I might do a little short or live to show you my setup and answer this one, but I also want to point out that I am not the model of cleanliness or tidiness, i feed raw mostly outside, and I just do my best 😂 But I will try to video a little something with my setup and how I keep it as clean as possible.

Magnus my service dog never messes with anything. Like literally anything. I can leave food in front of him, cords all over the places, etc. But his biggest issue is sometimes getting overly excited going to new places. I feed him Ollies he's a Flat coated Retriever mixed with a Golden Retriever. Is Oma's cheaper than Ollies? My dog is 90lbs and it's insanely hard for me to financially afford this for him so I do half and half.

One question I would have for the raw food expert would be how you termin how often is a good amount of time to feed your dog raw food is it dependent upon age size breed and so on
@coor0kun
@coor0kun 4 месяца назад
I wish we could use fresh or raw meals as treats or toppers, but due to my dog's allergies none of the formulas out there are an option. I do get meat from the butcher, but would love to not have to process it myself some days! 😅 An alternative Toppl style, more open feeder, Soda Pup makes honey pot shaped feeders and flower pot shaped ones that are cheaper. I've found that my dog likes chewing on these feeders (we have the honey pot) more than on the Kong (the bigger opening = more fun to chew), but the artificial rubber also isn't as resilient as Kong's natural rubber. So I don't leave that one for unsupervized feeding, but my dog loves it!

Have you checked out Oma's single ingredient dried treats and recipes? They have single ingredient grounds that might work, and things like turkey hearts or lamb lung with just that single ingredient. Hope that helps!

@DoggyU Single ingredient treats are a lifesaver in our household! And they've got a great selection, too. Now I just need a fresh, pre-made topper or meal that checks all of our *very specific* food sensitivities for stuffing Kongs 😆 Oma's Pride comes pretty close!

Congrats on the partnership! Do you have any advice on using these frozen food toys with a dog who already has crate anxiety? I did lots of crate introduction games with my pup at first, and he (reluctantly) crates up on command, but he acts as though it were a punishment and absolutely hates being in there at any time. He refuses to eat anything when he is in the crate, regardless of what we offer; raw meat, cheese, pepperoni, dry treats--they just sit there in the crate with him all night and are still untouched in the morning. This includes the dry treat ball he has, which he loves when he isn't in his crate, but will not touch if he's inside the crate. I think the issue stems from him having thrown up once, inside his crate, after receiving his nightly crate treat--and now he thinks anything he eats in there will make him throw up. That was half a year ago, but he's a very proud dog. I've managed to coax a few treats down his throat inside the kennel since then, but only by literally opening his mouth and placing them on his tongue and then closing his mouth; he acted as though they might be poison. I've tried shaping (clicking to reward approaching the crate, treating, even throwing treats inside the crate--he's willing to retrieve from inside the crate but he then carries them out to eat them) but he remains convinced that being closed up inside the crate means we're going to poison him! lol/sigh. All that to say, I would love to start over and introduce the freezy treat balls with raw food in a way that would convince him to love his crate... but he would need to be willing to eat or chew anything at all in his crate, which he simply refuses to do. I've never seen a dog with so little interest in food rewards or chew toys (even outside the crate). He's so willing to learn and do things on command, which is amazing for an Anatolian, but with his obvious misery about crating, I feel like I'm failing him somehow... Any advice would be welcome! Thanks as always for your wonderful videos (and your Patreon posts!
@DoggyU
@DoggyU 4 месяца назад
This is a timely question, as I'm working on a video now on increasing food drive. First, I would avoid forcing food with him in the crate. This will definitely create more negative associations with the crate and potentially poison treats/food for him. This crating issue does sound like something that would be best to get an in-person trainer involved with. However, when having issues with a particular thing, oftentimes it's easiest to start over on a new thing. A good example of this is the video I did on shaping Whip to go into her new vest. She already had some negative associations with some of her equipment, so I shaped the behavior with a new vest, and now she willingly loads into the vest. So options might be starting over with a new crate the looks different in a different location, or working with an X pen. Some dogs don't like crates, so the question could be, does he need to go in the crate in the house? Could you use an Xpen that he may be more comfortable with instead. Just some ideas to hopefully spark some ideas that will work for you :)
@one_field

@@DoggyU Thank you! We've been looking at options for a different crate, probably a wire kennel that lets him look around more and feel less confined, so we'll start training afresh when we get one. Can't wait for your upcoming video!!! Food motivation is definitely a struggle with this boy (we followed your advice and quit doing meal times altogether, and use his food as his training treats, but he will still sometimes decide that eating just isn't all that rewarding).

I’m not a vet but I can say that I do this. Mine eat kibble with a handful dehydrated raw. I even use silicone puppy paw molds and freeze canned, and freeze goat milk with pumpkins sometimes, and my big dogs get those during the summer instead of the wet. And occasionally I do give them raw as a treat.

Thank you for another helpful clip. I am interested in the % of organ meat (not including lung) that is considered safe for dogs. I have read that dogs can get gravely (and sometimes incurably) ill from accumulated toxins if fed too much organ meat. Eps loves liver and heart and I would like to let her enjoy safe amounts if it is ok. I am also very curious about this new seaweed that is really helpful for preventing tooth decay and keeping great oral hygiene in dogs. Any info on that supplement and it's effectiveness would be great to learn about. 💞🐾🦷

Here's my question for Oma's Raw Food expert! Currently, my 7 yr old long coat (110lb) GSD is eating Blue Buffalo adult chicken & brown rice. (1 1/2 cup dry) and I also add half a can of chopped chicken & rice by Pedigree. This is done twice a day, but here lately she's just not interested in her breakfast at all! If I'm wanting to better the health (and weight) of my girl, what Oma's food would you recommend switching her to, and, how do I start incorporating that switch over! She's obedience trained, and currently I'm training her to become my service dog for mobility. So she's getting exercise, but I walk with a cane, so I can't personally do longer walks, so as shown here by our fabulous Doggy U trainer Laura, I'm learning how to work my dogs brain. She's always been one that doesn't relax after physical exercise, but totally crashes if I play mental games with her! Thank you from south Florida!! ☀️ 🐾 ♥️

It depends on the type of disability and the handler's needs, but some things that come to mind off the top of my head are: - go get help - retrieving small items like medication - pressing a help button - locating items (even if they can't retrieve them) - light pressure therapy or grounding - wake up from nightmare - behavior interruption - behavior alert/medical alert - scent-based tasks like allergy detection i'm sure there's more but that's what I have in my brain this morning :) Hope that helps!
