The Easiest Way to Install Fortuna on a PS2 Slim Using FreeDVDBoot | Project Fortuna & OPL Setup

The Fortuna Project is an excellent FreeMCBoot alternative designed to work on all Slim models, including the later SCPH-90000 series systems! Installing Fortuna on a memory card has been made infinitely easier thanks to FreeDVDBoot! This doesn't require you to find a pre-loaded memory card, perform a swap trick, or have a modchip. This method is without a doubt the easiest method of installing Fortuna on a completely unmodified PS2! As long as you have a USB drive on hand and the ability to burn a DVD, you're all set assuming you have a compatible console.
Keep in mind that FreeDVDBoot is completely reliant on the specific DVD Player version your PlayStation 2 has. With time FreeDVDBoot will be ported to work on more consoles, but for the time being you need to make sure your console is on a specific version. At the moment, every Slim console works with this method, with more support expected for Phat consoles.

Here's a cool fact: Fortuna can be used to load Free McBoot on all 9000x systems, even the incompatible ones (all 8D and newer, some 8C/most R-chassis) and the BRAVIA PS TV through HWC's OSDSYS Launcher.

There are "Slim-ISOs" available now, which have all exploits available as a "hybrid" (similar to the first Hybrid-Disc). No need to look for the DVD-Player-Version anymore. Just start the Slim-ISO on a Slim! ;)

Thank you for the tutorial! Its very easy to understand. But I have an issue: On my memory card, which I instaled Fortuna, I already have game saves. Then I boot a game that has save profile on that MC from OPL. But when I want to load my save profile, I don't find any save profile. Is it to be expected because of installing Fortuna on that MC? Is there a way to load save profile for that game? Thx you so much in advance :D (PS: if I create new save profile, it is saved to that MC)

Something that I noticed is that if you scroll down on the memory card with fortuna pn it, the ps2 freezes, is better to manage saves with ulaunch.

@@samabdollahi3068 you just need to put a real dvd movie in your ps2 and play it for like 5 minutes. It supose to recalibrate the lense of the ps2 which then ables it to run the burned dvd. That’s what I did when I got the error message and it worked.

Good shit! Solid guide as usual. For anyone with a 700xx model slim, you do indeed have the option to use an internal HDD. You will need some pretty savy soldering skills to get it done, You can wire it up manually or purchase a special ribbon cable designed specially to add internal hdd support to the PS2. It's worth noting for those inclined to take on that project.

I follow the video up to putting the disc into my ps2, at which point i have to do the "putting weight on the back" trick to get it to recognize the disc, but when i run it it says that the disc was unable to be read. What did i do wrong, and how would i fix this?

So very weird issue pressing triangle on the main menu boots me to browser. I did some research and my ps2 should have dvd player 3.11 loading the dvd with free dvd boot boots me to a black screen with the text "unable to read disc" or in the browser saying it couldn't read the disc (brand new verbatim dvd+r) any help?

Great tutorial! Thank you very much!!! Sometimes my OPL doesn't load the settings and I need to change them all over again so I can have access to the game list. Does anyone have any idea why? Because other times it works just fine. EDIT: I was able to fix it, I needed to cut the config files generated by OPL and saved on the memory card and place them in the USB in the root directory. Once again, thank you very much for the tutorial!

Hope you see this MrMario. Been struggling to get anything done with my modded ps2 version 77004 (Modbo 1.93). The dvd reader is not working reliably anymore, and the recent dvd method didn't work either. I guess my only choice is to buy one of those modded memory cards i assume?

hey mr.mario i know its been three years, but the files did in fact copy to my memory card however it will not boot into it by backing out of the browser like you showed, it shows as corrupt data but has an emblem and is not invisble?

I did the date thing and no go. The lastest update allows you to use either memory card slot. I switched my card to the other one and it worked (I also did the date thing and had a memory card in each slot (hadn't in previous attempts)

Didn't work but what I don't understand is why you need fortuna? Can't you use opl using the FreeDVDBoot? and also Fortuna didn't launch for me the way it should have. I can't find any info on why there is no USB start mode in OPL settings not even through google. I can't figure it out.

@Amer nah I used my already exploited ps2 to transfer the files through ulaunchelf to that memory card. It's actually how I exploit future ps2s so I don't have to do that 007 agent under fire trick anymore. That stuff made me nervous 😭

Mine worked, PS2 SPCH 90006 no magic gate with modchip installed (i forgot my modchip name) Just click the power button 2 or 3 times with freedvdboot inside, wait a few black screen and its works

hi there, try this one, new version was just released the other day and was updated yesterday, it's for our 90k model ps2 😊 after you try it, please tell me what can you say about it. 1st of all, burn the FreeDVDboot on a DVD-R disc, then in the uLE freedvdboot, go to mass folder and run the workingULE.elf and then go to mass folder again and copy the ".psu" file then paste on your memory card, use the "psuPASTE" not the normal PASTE then remove cd and you're good to go www.psx-place.com/threads/funtuna-free-mcboot-for-fortuna.30973/

Im having trouble getting it to work. I have downloaded the files in the video, but when i burn free dvdboot to a dvd-r and insert it into my ps2 slim 90000, it just stays at a black screen. Ive waited at the screen for at least 3 minutes, I've changed the burn speed from 6x, 8x, and 2x, and I've unplugged the controller and memory cards. I've noticed that the opl files in the description is different in the video. Which file do I grab? Is that not the problem and I need to do something else to get it to work?

Burned it onto a DVD+RW not -R or -RW and set book type to DVD ROM. And it works on SCPH-75001 DVD RW’s may not work on all models

Setting the booktype is only needed for 39k and older. RWs are not good for any PS2-Laser, but can be used for a one-time-install. I suggest FMCB for your model though.

You want to: 1. load OPL (the app) from USB and 2. play games from LAN via it, correct? Yes, that is possible and yes FMVs run much better when the games are played via LAN.

Excellent video, thank you very much for making it! I have run into a problem, though: my PS2 is unable to recognize the DVD I burned. Is there a possibility that this is due to the format? Quite annoyingly, the packaging that my DVD's came in said they were DVD-Rs but they turned out to be DVD+RW which I only noticed after I had burned it so I can't even return it -_- Do you know if there is a fix for that or do I just have to cough up a few more bucks for actual DVD-Rs?

Old drives have trouble reading RWs, you might be able to get them to work if you burn at a really, really low speed and keep trying.

No need to do this on a chipped PS2, and it might not even work unless you disable the modchip.

I have fortuna and i want to play games from flashdisk but the opl say harddisk not detected. I try it my friend harddisk it can read it. Do you know how to fix it?

Already solved it. My flashdisk was using GPT partition so that why it cannot be detected.
