Hi gas station clerk here. I will 100% cash that ticket. Here are the many ways that scratch ticket can be cashed. 1: That little barcode on the front of the ticket after you scratch it. 2: there's two boxes with a two-digit number we can scan the back of the card on that really long barcode that usually sits at the bottom and top of the scratch card we insert the four digits end the machine will know if it's a winner or loser. 3: We make money off cashing those. If the machine will cash it we will cash it. We are not the gatekeepers of whether or not a ticket is real, fake or altered. If the machine says you win, you win. We get our money! You get your money!.

Or you can just ring the manufacturer on the back of the card and claim. Even if it’s damaged.

That is an absolute falsehood. The card cannot void itself. Hi gas station clerk here and I'm going to school you on how these things actually work because obviously you have no idea. There are two separate ways to cash this card at the store. We scanned a little barcode it says if you win or lose. Now if for whatever reason you are too vigorous with your scratching and damage that little white barcode, there's a whole another way to do it. Next time you buy a lottery ticket scratch the entire scratchable surface. You're going to notice there are two boxes with a two-digit number inside of it. We scan the really long barcode on the back of the ticket. There's usually one at the top and bottom of the larger tickets, usually just one on the dollar tickets. No big deal. We don't care and we input those two digits. It's going to tell us whether Win or loses. Now to explain to you how the machine knows whether or not the ticket is valid. We get the tickets in the mail hand delivered usually by your local post office, FedEx or UPS. Those tickets are absolutely useless to you. You could steal them play them. They will never cash for you ever because they were never activated by the store they were sent to. When we get the package we have to verify that the tickets match the shipping paper that was also included in that shipment. We tell the machine that we received this said shipment. By scanning the invoice into the machine. Then we put them away until we need to put them out. Once the cards are ready to be sold, we activate the individual pack which then tells the computer throughout the entire state that that card pack is now active. Another fun fact you will be in so much trouble for stealing even $1 worth of lottery. We're talking federal prison time. Also, fun fact you cannot cash in out of state lottery ticket. If you won the Powerball from a ticket you purchased in California, that ticket can only be cashed in California. Same thing with scratch tickets if you buy a scratch ticket in California but you forgot about it on your trip home and decided to try to get it cashed in Nevada. It will not cash. The machine will not let you. There's nothing that cashier can do. You have to go to California to get it cashed.

@@Crazy-Chicken-Media apparently people are saying there is a void if removed area on the tickets but I too have experience working at a gas station and have never seen that area on any tickets.

​@@Sky623theyre saying that for some cards they only allow to scratch off say 5 of the total 25 scratchable spots, so if you scratch all the spots then some tickets dont allow you to cash them in anymore, certain tickets only let you reveal a portion of the scratches to be valid
