Class 144 144009, carrying a fictional Great Midland Trains livery for a filming job, was in action during the East Lancashire Railway Summer Diesel Spectacular, diesel gala event, on Saturday 3rd July 2021. This is highly likely to be the units final public passenger workings. The former Northern Rail unit is owned by the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMF) and will move to one of their sites for training in the future.
The British Rail Class 144 Pacer diesel multiple units (DMUs) were built at British Rail Engineering Limited's Derby Litchurch Lane Works.

Pacer: "ah... This is the life! No corporate backchat, no regular annoyance from passengers, no strict accessibility needs, I'm treated like a friend, especially with the bubble cars, I'm happy to be here."

It’s strange seeing these trains on preserved railways when only a couple of years ago they were still in service.

Cool. Probably the only time a pacer has been on the east lands railway. I’d love to see a 142 on this line, as they actually ran in east Lancashire (144’s normally only operated in Yorkshire). Does anyone know if this train will run on the east lancs railway again?

It came to the railway for storage before moving off to be used for training with Greater Manchester Fire Service. The idea was it would always have a couple of running dates, originally planned to be the Railcar Weekend last weekend, but delayed until the Summer Diesel Gala. It was turned out in this livery for a filming job, which has now been completed and I doubt will run again before leaving, but you never know. It is currently sat alongside the carriage works at Buckley Wells.
