The EDAG CityBot is a multi-functional, fully autonomous robot vehicle with swarm intelligence, which is completely emission-free and electrically powered.
Originally developed for needs-based and congestion-free transport in the smart city, the EDAG CityBot can be used anywhere where where precise processes, timing, transactions and an optimized flow of goods can help to increase efficiency and reduce emissions.
USE IN LOGISTICS
In highly automated areas such as warehouses and distribution centers, it is realistic to suppose that the EDAG CityBot will be able to ensure barrier-free material flows from 2025 onwards - autonomously, without emissions, on time, with real-time tracking and 24/7/365 availability. Various backpack modules are used, carrier modules, for example, cleaning devices or forklift modules. In addition, the EDAG CityBot's agility is an advantage in this field of application, and it has four powertrains that can be steered and controlled individually, making it capable of diagonal movement and turning on the spot. This powertrain is a completely new concept, and has not yet been installed in any production vehicle.
ORIGINAL IDEA: USE IN THE SMART CITY
The EDAG CityBot is an intelligent alternative to individual transport, and one that makes clever use of autonomous driving for various applications in urban mobility. Thanks to its modularity and multi-functionality, the EDAG CityBot can be operated around the clock, and there are numerous utility modules that can be fitted to configure it to meet requirements: for use as a passenger cell for instance, or as a cargo carrier, or a device for city cleaning, waste disposal or park maintenance, while at the same time achieving maximum ecological and economic efficiency through continuous utilization. The EDAG CityBots move comparatively slowly though steadily, making them extremely energy-efficient, and they have an emission-free fuel cell drive.
We are currently examining ways in which the EDAG CityBot might be put to use in the smart city in the FreeCity Campus research project in the real lab in Frankfurt / Main.
