A hare-brained idea brought to reality: Let's celebrate the new Edinburgh Tram extension by visiting all 23 stops in a day. Will we make it all the way from the Airport to Newhaven? Join us to find out and maybe see some of Edinburgh along the way (as well as our struggles!).
This video was filmed in Edinburgh on Wednesday 5th July 2023.

This video is not sponsored and all opinions are our own.
I don’t pretend to be a travel expert, but I love what I do and would be honoured if you came along with me. My channel focusses on the wide-eyed wonder and excitement of finding somewhere new, and my genuine reaction to it. You might not get a history lesson in my videos, but who knows, you might pick up some useful travel tips along the way, add a few destinations to your bucket list and hopefully be entertained by what you see. Thanks for watching, it means a lot to me :)
I do ALL of this myself. Planning, filming, editing, promoting, all with a weekly upload schedule, so please understand not every video will be an epic adventure. But my pledge is to always do my best in any situation.
FAQs:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I film with a GoPro11 and my iPhone12. I edit on iMovie and use epidemicsound.com for music. I also use canva.com for thumbnails etc.
WHY DON'T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I'm afraid - time and money! Hotels especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman.
WHERE'S ALICJA?
Alicja will feature as often as possible, but I'm afraid she has a proper job so it can take weeks for our schedules to match up.
DO YOU PAY FOR YOUR OWN TRAVEL?
Yes I do. I've only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.
WHY THE ADS?
It's my income, I can't do this for free.
CAN I CONTACT YOU?
I used to list my email address but felt bad not having the capacity to respond to everything so took it down (and I got a LOT of spam so missed many genuine messages along the way).
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE CHANNEL?
Watching my videos is of course support enough, but if you'd like to support further, I'll pop links below for Paypal and Patreon. All kind donations are super-appreciated and will go 100% towards future filming trips.
DO YOU ACCEPT SPONSORSHIPS?
I don't like to upset the flow of my videos, so I don't even include mid-roll ads anymore (at significant loss of income to myself), so I prefer not to include sponsorships either. I'm open to a small slide at the start/end of each video, but I don't want to get into talking about products, it's something I don't like as a viewer myself (especially as a viewer who pays for RU-vid Premium). So it's probably a polite no, although all of this goes out the window if you offer me something which can give me the chance to make a video for my audience that would otherwise be impossible.
Donate here to future videos: (thank you!)

Well done guys! In reverse order, 1) Everybody thinks the Newhaven terminus is in a bizarre place! You'd have thought it would run into Western Harbour (that's the new flats next to Asda, there) or indeed, up to Newhaven Harbour as you say. I guess the road is wider where they've put it - and there is passive provision for an extension along to Granton that's being talked about already, along with a revised route up there from Princes Street... 2) Yeah, the time's up for those anchor-store-at-either-end 90s shopping centres. Ocean Terminal is unusual in that it lost both of its anchor stores (Debenhams and Bhs) and, most of the shops that remain are actually on the upper floors! I think the cinemas do quite well there, so I guess that's the reason... 3) The Tallin ship, which arrived the previous Sunday, is the temporary home of a couple of thousand Ukranian refugees. The City Council and many others are none too happy about this. I'm not sure if you noticed, but Victoria Bridge (the old wooden one that used to carry railway lines between what's now Rennies Isle and the Southern end of the docks and Seafield Yard (and thereby providing one of the physical links between the former Caledonian and North British Railways) is being restored as a public walkway. It's looking quite good! 4) Yes, whomever would have thought the Port of Leith would turn into a wine bar, Steve?? 5) I take it you don't prefer Wetherspoons for meals? Only, the Foot of the Walk pub is right next to, well, the Foot of the Walk tram-stop! There's also a nice new sit-in chippy at that end of Great Junction Street, should you ever be down that way again... 6) So don't you do avocado either, then? I've always felt it tastes like soap myself... 7) Not much of Shrubhill tram depot (of the old system) left now, is there? The even older Leith Tram Depot (on the other side of The Walk, behind Inchkeith House - which was the Leith Tramways Company's offices), was only recently demolished too. 8) You've been away from Edinburgh too long if you're surprised that there's still work to be done in that Leith Street / Broughton Street / Picardy Place island! It seems to me it's just what it £%&*ing does!! 9) Although all traces of York Place Tram Stop has now been removed (the platform was sitting over the city-bound tracks), all passenger trams prior to the recent opening of the extension still ran down there empty, to use the crossover... 10) In have always favoured that now-£475-a-night hotel building with the stone figurines too. 11) The latest proposed tram route to Granton would leave Princes Street and turn along Queensferry Street and then continue via Orchard Brae and the Western General Hospital to Crewe Toll, before adopting the former railway alignment to West Granton - where it may or may not link up with that extension from Newhaven, if it is ever built... 12) Note the track loop in what used to be the coal depot at Haymarket Yards - handy for turning extra westbound trams at the end of big events at Murrayfield. There's also passive provision in the trackwork for a turnout just where the line crosses the old Caledonian Railway Princes Street to Leith & Granton Line - along the track-bed of which was where it was originally planned to go. 13) Where did you live in Edinburgh, then? I'm at Gorgie Park - we must have just about been neighbours! And, surely I'm not the only one who reads 'Jenners Suppository' on that warehouse buildlng?? 14) The City of Edinburgh Council decided to drop the proposed branch from Ingliston to Newbridge recently - and proposes to use the money (which they don't yet have) to lay tracks "Up the A71 corridor to serve the college and university campuses at Sighthill and Riccarton." 15) 'Saughton' is a misnomer, isn't it? I'd have thought thnat 'Carrick Knowe' or even 'Broomhouse' would have been better. It does serve the Government offices there mind you - and it was originally known as "Saughton Hospital." 16) Gyle Centre has kept both its anchor stores - but has lost several others and is looking pretty tired now, I agree. What on earth persuaded them to put the tram stop so far away from everything else? Despite this inconvenience, it's fairly well used. 17) Edinburgh Gateway wasn't originally there when the tramway first opened. It is now used mainly by staff as their changeover point. The biggest white elephant of all is the enormous railway station with all mod cons above - it is only there at all because, while the Scottish Government revised the original plan for the Edinburgh & Glasgow Electrification Project - which was to have had most of its' trains diverted through the new station and along a new curve that was to be constructed to the south of Dalmeny; the contract for the tram interchange station had already been let... 18) So, when you're building a brand new tramway along a completely new alignment, it's so obvious to build the stop that serves one of the largest employment centres in the city at the other side of a busy dual carriageway, isn't it? 19) I've not been along there for a while, but permission is now granted for the development of new housing estates between Gogarburn and Ingliston stops - which will be served by a 24th tram stop I believe, for which passive provision is already made! So you might have to come back in a few years and do it all again - I'm sure Alicja wouldn't mind - in fact, she might even do it on your behalf, now that you've shown her how it all works [runs away and hides...!] 20) I might not have baked you a cake if I'd known you were coming - but as a holder of a C+ Edinburgh-issued concessionary pass, I could have chummed you along and saved you £12... Only saying!

That was quite an interesting challenge, although you were both definitely wilting towards the end. Did any of the tram drivers start recognising you? 🙂 What a shame you didn't look for lunch at Edinburgh Park Station. In the carpark at Hermiston Gait shopping centre across the road, is a wee van. It's called Scrumptious Snax, and when I visited it two years ago it was the #1 'Quick Bites' location in Edinburgh, according to Tripadvisor. Great stuff, mate!
@steve-marsh
@steve-marsh Год назад
Ach that would have been grand, us country folk were blinded by the bright lights of the big city, we were sure we'd have so much choice in and around Leith! But it was all coffee and cake. I'll keep a visit to Scrumptious Snax for next time...

This extended tram route as another great addition for exploring the city of Edinburgh (well done Steve) The 2 white flour mills,at Newhaven,have to come down,(so ugly) but the Leith Western Harbour area, north of Newhaven,has so much growth potential,as its is land,with fantastic sea views! Undeveloped just now! p.s. Haymarket train station is where you get off if you want to go and visit "Dean Village"! Lovely 15 min walk from the station!

It's been quite a while since I was over in Edinburgh (the last time the line was still under construction & Prince's St was a shambles), so the video has made me resolve to get back before year's end. It was good to see RFA Fort Victoria; I worked on her when she was being built in Belfast back in the day.
