RIP lead singer John Kezdy who died on Aug 26, 2023 in Glencoe a north suburb of Chicago in a bicycle accident with an Amazon truck. I remember seeing him play the clubs here in Chicago back in the early 80s, my younger days. Thanks for all the great music the Effigies gave us. Keep on punkin'

Great EP. The Effigies and Naked Raygun should've gotten worldwide recognition.

Fuck ya! Both bands are fucking legendary. Saw Naked Raygun in Phoenix in the 80's but was never fortunate enough to catch the Effigies.

Yep. The best memories I have of my teen years from 15 yrs old going to shows were from 1981- 1984 when I graduated and left for the Army. Chicago will never that special magic of that early scene. God I miss it at 57 yrs old.

"Below the drop" Lyrics: Picked a spot below the drop Knew something was about to fall I've been waiting around for long enough Now I hear my non-call We're not subjects of your stupid precepts We're built on grains of truth It's a no-class, sight-unseen report Not swayed by your abuse I'm not boxed in Religious convention is your own invention Called the lightning-fast fist of Man But religious slates don't dictate our fate I don't walk around in a trance Disbelief is what we preach To the troubles that make up our mind When things fall short of expectations It's time to redefine

This is such an epic, solid oldschool midwest punk album. Iconic.

Underrated and unsung band. Great Chicago HC

Shane Clare-Thayer don't know about "underrated and unsung." The Effigies played tons of shows in the early 80s, opening up for big punk/new wave bands that came to CHICAGO. They were a well regarded rockin' quartet. I saw 'em loads of times... :-)

Yeah, Chicago was one of the first places for punk back in the very early 80's. Good times.

the Mentally Ill were sort of like the Steely Dan of punk since they recorded but never played live. Regardless they came from Chicago and released music.

+downwiththemaster Actually they were asked to open a couple shows for Metallica but were temporarily broken up at the time and it would have been the return leg of the tour right after Cliff Burton died so it wouldn't have happened anyway. Look up the interview with John Kezdy of the Effigies on Creative Loafing and stop being such a poser purist.
