Your channel is already top tier, but what would really take it to the next level would be timestamps. That would be the cherry on top! That's it, don't change anything else, or else.

I told her it was a historical educational game. It worked! And i'm still a massive nerdy student of WW2 history. Thank you mom, thank you for helping to foster my love of history and learning.

Yeah, about the Dark Brotherhood Questline and who's responsible for it... Emil Pagliarulo. The guy who came up with the Dragon Language over one weekend. Went home friday, came back next monday and had the dragon language all done. The same guy, that massively fucked up Starfield's Story and after getting critizised about that, lashed out at fans and wrote a 15 tweet long essay on how stupid we fans are. To be completely honest and neutral: I have no idea what happened to his brain between Skyrim's release and Starfield. He must have had a really big brain injury, which caused him to become so full of himself AND incompetent at the same time. Look, if he wants to write stories, it's fine by me, but if he wants to do stories and expects people to love the shitpile he dunked in his toilet bowl at home, then this is completely different. Delivering crap and expecting people to like it is such a bubble-thinking thing to do and then ranting and insulting the customer afterwards is just outright childish stupid behaviour and not at all professional. And i think Oblivion might be the turning point in this for Bethesda. Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, all three outstanding games in their own rights and at their time of release, Oblivion with it's many flaws still really good, but the flaws are there and very noticeable. Skyrim is where Bethesda finally peaks and shows off, what they really can accomplish when they want to. Fallout 4 is lightyears below Skyrim. Fallout 76 a fucking mess. Starfield? A shallow experience, a husk without a soul. Gone is the Bethesda from back then. Say hello to corporate greed.
@LycaniteTV
@LycaniteTV 3 месяца назад
Interesting. I've never heard of Emil Pagliarulo. I agree it isn't professional to lash out at people. Some people just won't like what you write and if they offer up criticisms you should listen to it and learn from it. I've gotten a few comments from people over my short time here with this channel. I listened and I learned. I won't ever be able to please everybody but at the same time I'm not about to sit here and tell everybody to "F off". I also had no idea he rose so high up within the company after Oblivion and the Dark Brotherhood. I personally can't judge Starfield yet - I did get it and I did play it (on live stream for the channel actually). But the game corrupted my save and I lost everybody so I threw in the towel until that expansion, then AND ONLY THEN will I return and make a video about Starfield. But what I WILL comment on is something you brought up - Oblivion was indeed a turning point within Bethesda and I really noticed it as I was making my way through the games back to back. And it seems you've also noticed. Either way, pal. I just again want to say thanks for not only watching the videos but especially taking the time out of your day to leave comments on the videos. It's always great to hear from people and get their thoughts on the games I cover. Take great care of yourself and for whatever it's worth I hope you continue enjoying the videos. I really hope they put a smile on your face.

Eventually I modded him to make him more competent and gave him a schedule so he wouldn’t follow me all the time (so I can go stealing at night). Im commenting only like a minute in but im excited to hear your stories with the game, Oblivion is a strange case as far as when & how i experienced it. I actually had played all the other mainline games including eso by the time i managed to find myself in the position with a copy of it and some free time. Literally all of all my friends i hangout with who play T.E.S. both before i'd played and to this day consider Oblivion their favorite in the series as well. I had mixed feelings, some things i really enjoyed like the combat for example & of all games ive ever played it's in my top 3rd so i do like the game but it's become a bit of a meme amongst my friends that i "hate" oblivion lol because for my rankings it's behind Daggerfall in 1st, Morrowind 2nd, Skyrim 3rd, & (admittedly very controversially) Adventures Redguard 4th. Perhaps hearing why you like it will help me understand why it's so universally acclaimed bc admittedly although thanks to my friends i understand why some individuals love it the fact it's so often ranked higher than most comparisons to it on a community level is something that's always puzzled me p.s. the little axolotl is fricken adorable! oh also commenting here that the compliment to the audience at like 4:20ish is appreciated & wholesome
@LycaniteTV
@LycaniteTV Год назад
You'll have to let me know if I helped or not. It's a tricky one to place if I'm honest. I think for Oblivion you had to be there when it dropped to fully understand it if that makes sense. If my thoughts in the video helped you, I'll be happy. Hahaha I'm also glad you enjoyed the compliment.
@veraxiana9993
@veraxiana9993 Год назад
@Lycan yeah it most certainly did. I'd heard thousands of examples of why several quests & the guilds in particular were better than those found elsewhere in the series but I think that was just the wrong approach by my friends to persuade me bc I guess I needed to relate to why they loved them on their own in the first place before expanding into comparisons. Also in hindsight upon refreshing my memory on release dates I must concede that when it came out being one of the factors is a really good point actually. Outside of Panzer Dragoon saga there's no non Elder Scrolls fantasy rpg released before Oblivion I personally rank higher than it, so had I gotten it back then I'd have played it quite a lot & the sentimental value bump would be there

THis game was the second game for my (kinda new) PS3. The first one which i bought WITH my PS3 was The Eye of Judgment (the card game with the AR) and got the game later and BOY i was suprised :-D i mean i did play Morrorwind but not very far and i also didn't finish this game though i am kinda far as fasr as i know (i should look on my ps3 savestate) but i also have it on PC now xD Oblivion got a VERY bad reputation in Germany since the german translation was bad as shit. They couldn't fit all words into the small windows so they had to shorten it everywhere. Sadyl they shorted it so much that it was almost impossible to understand. Schw Tr d Leb. Wied = Schwerer Trank der Lebenswiederherstellung (strong health potion. I mean even the translation is totally ... not wrong but ... way to complicated. They could go with Starker Lebenstrank but NOOOO why making it easy). the voice over was good though :)

long video long post kinda you need to add time stamps it would be something like " oblivion main quest " " singing like a pirate "- " rant rant rant " "gameplay " " rant " - "guilds " "rant rant".... i honestly look at the hoddie to see if you put the hand of the balck brotherhood , that would have blown my mind haha after looking this video i have a theory , the adoring fan is the nephew of fargot hahaha... about the video itself, the arena sucks its repetitive same as the gates, its the same mechanic and then you notice that the entire game is repetitive, quests are kinda the same not much difference , like you said 3/4 of the thieves guild is the same, fighters guild kinda the same , the only guild that awe me was the dark brotherhood damn that was morag tong nostalgic, also about the thieves guild.. nothing in the game makes a difference, you are the champion and still got quests to kill goblins, you are the grand master of magic and ppl just look at you and treat you like shit .. and like dude cmon im your master , respect me long face elf .... the game was good overall, a lot of things are bad , some are good , some are pointless ( the ruins of the ayelid or something like that its like " we dont want to bring the dwemer again so lets put another dungeon that is a copy and a bad one " ) we wanted to know more about the last game , but oblivion make you feel likes its " another game " not like in the line of the other ones , you change the name from " elder scrolls oblivion " to " Gates of Hell " , and you dont notice its not part of the elder scrolls , thats my opinion.. too different from the other ones.

Even as a 12-year old it felt like a disappointment compared to Morrowind. But I had learned how to use the mod tools through MW so I modded the hell out of it to give me custom items like the One Ring and a sword that would send the enemy flying to the other end of the earth so it was a good and fun sandbox at least. XD The Dark Brotherhood quests were lit tho.

Bro, you're burning through the TES games. Especially since they can be lengthy when covering them as in depth as you are. Are you gonna be covering Elder Scrolls Online too? I wouldn't get too stressed about it being an MMO. Just treat it like Skyrim or Oblivion with multi-player. Other adventurers delving into those ruins too. You can ignore the strict MMO content like group content dungeons and raids and still come away with a proper Elder Scrolls experience.

Oblivion was like diet coke. Sure, I will drink it, but it just don't taste the same. However, Shivering Isles was very much as you described, a lot like the alien world of Morrowind, and still the only part of Oblivion that I really remember. Take that as you will I suppose. I should also say, that it don't mean I do not like Oblivion. It is still my most played TES game in my steam library, and I owned it before I had steam as well. So I definitely kept coming back to it. It's just that, despite the time I played in it, it is not quite as memorable.

While a fine game on it's own, in the context of the series it feels like the beginning of the end for me. It's the first game where they took a definitively more casual and generic approach to game design after morrowind, and they've continued on that path ever since.

@And-ur6ol
@And-ur6ol Год назад
For me Oblivion only has 1 really big issue, and that's the leveled NPCs which i think do more or less ruing the rpg aspect. It ruins you character progression (and rpg) it makes combat stay dragged out in late game, when running into a bandit should really be just a 1-hit encounter, and then onwards. it ruins economy, because getting valuable weapons and armor becomes super easy. And it devalues rare armor like glass and deadric, which in Morrowind felt super special when you got it, but in Oblivion becomes just boring ordinary armor in late game.

I think your evaluation of the Adoring Fan lacks the context of the state of the internet when Oblivion was popular, pre-Skyrim days. The Adoring Fan actually was much adored by everyone, he was an original meme, when meme culture wasn’t evolved to where it is today. He became a simple slap-stick icon in the community - still is. He’s a martyr and the butt of all jokes and we love him for it. ‘Whaddya do to the annoying kid? Ya blast him off of Dive Rock obviously!’ type humor.

This was the first Elder Scrolls title I've ever played or even heard of back in '07, I recall a friend of mine at the time showing it to me in the form of goofing off slaughtering NPCs and such, and being a sucker for RPGs I inevitably got myself a copy and loved it...still do. You're right though in that it aged like milk and requires mods to make the character designs less "slightly melted action figure" and have a menu/UI more PC friendly but in spite of all that and having played Skyrim, some Daggerfall (which I need to revisit at some point soon) and for the first time ever a full playthrough of Morrowind recently and honestly not only is Oblivion still my favorite but on Morrowind and this is a hot take for some as someone spoiled by more modern entries, but quest markers and on the fly fast travelling is an absolute god send. I can respect the fact people don't "want their hands held" during quests and want to figure out the directions an NPC is babbling on about in regards to a quest location, but I felt that Morrowind's playtime was too heavily padded by the amount of time I had to hoof it to places and stumbling around a bit if I happened to turn at the wrong fork in the road and the like. I still like Morrowind but those little things make the game feel like a chore at times...I suppose I appreciate Oblivion more for being more "to the point" in how you get around and how it handles quests which I guess to a fault applies to the story telling as you've pointed out in terms of lacking depth. Also for me, I found myself less likely to go off exploring because I couldn't revisit a location without walking all the way back/remember where I've found it presuming it didn't show up as a location on the world map and if I'm out and about I'm in the middle of a quest, whereas in Oblivion and Skyrim I'd always make it a point to walk around the map from time to time and explore the country side and go dungeon delving thanks to being able to see the location on the map and zipping to it later if needed. Different strokes for different folks depending on where you started in this franchise I suppose.

perma enchant over a 100 in a few stats fixed the balancing issues with scaling enemies for me, try it if thats ur gripe with the game. U can also use the double speed exploit which is still in the game after all patches whereas perma ench and dupe aren't. Double speed kinda feels bad to use because it takes the fun out of the combat but it certainly helps with some of the enemies, essentially doubling any attack or spell speed.
@sriley4458
@sriley4458 Год назад
also thats all as an alternative to the character building solution most people use of selecting your skills in a particular way to avoid low point gain levels. I personally feel that kinda shits on the rpg and character building part of the game so i dont like it and tried to find other ways of coping with scaling.
@sriley4458
@sriley4458 Год назад
just wanted to put this since many peoples main outrage aside from the compartive lack of depth from morrowind is the scaling. Also Oblivion guild quests are hit and miss to be sure but so are a lot of morrowind ones, i think people got impatient with oblivions quests more due to the fast travel system and lack of travel pacing that morrowind had with all the different ways you had to get around, you would just do ur questline in obilvion without worrying where in the map you are or if you have other things to do. Not saying you have to wring every quest out of an area in either game but morrowind definitely makes your location a lot more important resulting in quests that feel more like real quests despite having some equally mmo ish quests in it. I could use examples, but this is already tldr. Oblivion has the best balance of well written quests that are accessible enough to realistically do as a casual player. I'd say skyrim has the biggest hit or miss ratio in the series but again also makes quests more accessible than ever.

You're right about the weird difficulty scaling in modern Bethesda games. It's two different multipliers fighting for dominance and their idea of making the game harder is making your multiplier smaller than the enemies'. But that doesn't make the games hard that makes them tedious.

1:18:00 - Right around the time in my first playthrough of Oblivion where I backpedaled across half a mile of fields trying to fight a single goblin, I realized how bad Oblivion's leveling system could be if you didn't approach it right. Rather than undo tens of hours of progress, I just turned down the difficulty slider to minimum. In the final battle, I bitch-slapped Mankar Camoran one time with my sword as he was monologuing and he instantly died. A pretty anti-climactic end to the Oblivion Crisis.

Just get the oblivion unofficial patch, darnified UI, quarls textures, DLC + SI patches, get a mod that fixes the scaling issue, get the lower level enemies don't disappear fix to add diversity and get better dungeons and one is set. At a minimum. Oblivion reloaded E3 for modern graphics. All one needs. A modded oblivion that keeps in the spirit of vanilla is key. Ah, and NOA weather mod. If people do that, they will find its vastly better than skyrim and the best elder scrolls.

Yeeeah but the brightside is at least I got to play the game in the end. Sure it didn't look the best but that's alright. I'll still never forget actually seeing the game with maxed out settings for the first time, such a good looking game!

I started my Oblivion Journey last week and I'm loving it so far. It took me a while to get used to everything llike efficent leveling, scaling and such, but once I did the level scaling didn't really bother me since I used every skill to experiment in different ways. It's quite fun experimenting with skills that feel unnatural

On start of watching this vid, I'm having Nesquik cereals. On a morning before heading to watch the Super Mario Bros movie. Will likely eat a variety of stuffs as I watch this vid in more than one sitting as with any other long one. Recalling having those for breakfast often at my aunts and grandparents place and one of the things I happened to read one morning was a Pelit-magazine (a Finnish gaming magazine) covering Oblivion.

Yeah that Slaughterfish quest is bugged. You have to leave the area and do another mission and it will reset the fish in the lake. It's common for 1 fish to get trapped inside of a rock making it impossible to kill, but do the thing mentioned above will reset it. I had to do that on my game.

Rats! I worked so hard on this... Oh... Wait! Damn now I see where I messed up! I forgot to explain that you need a stone pickaxe to mine iron... Damn. I'll have to make a new and improved video in the future. Thanks for being honest and letting me how terrible this Minecraft video was hahahaha. Seriously though, thanks for the comment, pal. Take care and have a great day.

Here in the US they were once Electronics Boutique. Then later they became EB Games for a while before becoming Gamestop. I miss EB. They actually sold PC stuff. Then they became Gamestop and turned into a garbage console only store. This was long before boxed PC games had gone away too. Oh and Oblivion is my favorite of all the Elder Scrolls games. The only one I never played was Arena.

I've heard so many people say that Oblivion has this massive leveling problem with NPC's becoming too powerful. It's so strange I've never experienced it. I've played through the game twice including appropriate DLC for that character. Both times I played as a light armored stealth archer. 1st playthrough I was a Dark Brotherhood assassin and second playthrough I was a good character using the light Crusader Armor. It's been a couple years but I still have the game installed so to be sure I just booted up my Windows PC and started up that last character where I last left off. He's at level 30 carrying the awesome Hatreds Soul bow found hiding in Oblivion and a variety of end game powerful arrows. The difficulty slider is in the middle where it was when the character was created and has never been touched. This character, as was my first, is powerful AF. He can one shot most any average enemy and there isn't anything that can stand to two or three of his arrows at most. In fact I remember towards the end it becoming a bit boring because I was the one who was so OP. My game is heavily modded but only visual mods are installed. NO GAMEPLAY MODS. It's all just graphics, npc character overhauls for anti potato aesthetics and scenery and landscape stuff. I like to keep the gameplay totally vanilla. I also have often heard how archery sucks in Oblivion and is not as powerful as Skyrim and I wonder if that is where part of my experience come to play. In Skyrim archery is powerful from the beginning. In Oblivion in the beginning archery kinda sucks. Maybe people are put off by the weak archery in the beginning so they don't stick with it and go melee. But archery in Oblivion becomes insanely powerful as you level. In the beginning it's best to supplement it with alchemy and get your hands on an enchanted bow as soon as possible. By level 12 - 15 though alchemy is no longer necessary as you become powerful enough to handle most enemies without it.

It is likely that your char was close to a minmax build anyway, or archery is that good, or both. It isn't unheard of to get those +5 bonuses each level just normally but it is far from guaranteed

Oblivion was my introduction to the series, I had just received an Xbox 360 as a gift and was looking for a game to get and I saw the beige Oblivion box in the middle of the shelf. I bought it just because the box art and the few screenshots on the back, that was one of the best purchase's I have made in my life. This was the first game that looked so realistic I almost felt like I was living in another world while I played it, there has never been another game as immersive as Oblivion and there never will be.
