Mark repairs a 1979 vintage guitar effects unit, which features a super rare Bucket Brigade Delay chip - the Reticon SAD1024. It doesn't go well, and did Mark get scammed???? FAKE component alert!

That’s why I loved fault finding as nothing quite replaces that buzz you get when you switch something on after a repair and it works ! It takes a certain type of person to be a technician. It’s addictive lol. The more complicated the repair the bigger the buzz. At nearly 70 I can’t do delicate work anymore due to trembling hands and it’s so annoying, but I still have all the test gear !

@peterhyams6824 Just a thaught....... you could consider teaching a youngster who wants to learn, and he/she could be your hands? Im sure you could still get work if thats your profession, as mentoring someone is as though you continue your work through someone else, and eventually you could hand over your business to that person who would continue to provide help to your community 🙂 ?......

Is there no end to your talent ! Last video I saw you replaced the writing on a Technics amp as the cleaning foam you used erased it off the brushed metal plate on the front! And now you're designing PCB boards and replacing an IC and using a modern equivalent - somehow making it work! Then to top it off... a bit of guitar at the end! Genius! Wished you were closer, I'd love to come to your workshop just for a visit - and maybe learn from the master!

Man I did not predict that a home made circuit board would be part of the fix! That’s truly next level stuff! I’m sure you have no shortage of things to work on but the guitar community are predicting a huge drop off in the number of people capable of repairing tube amplifiers in the next few years. Would you consider making some content tackling common issues associated with guitar tube amps?

I've got a late 70s, Mistress (the 2x9v) version that I got as my first ebay purchase back in 2004. Sold as "untested". When it turned up no sound. I found a pedal repair guy who thought the same as me that the SAD1024 was dead. Luckily the only issue was one of the 741s had died. He replaced it and it was good. I really needed to get that pedal down from the attic to test it as it's been 10-15 years since I last plugged it in

Excellent fix, as I recall Electro Harmonix made two versions, the Electric Mistress and the deluxe version, I have owned both, way back, trying to simulate a Leslie organ cabinet, I was given one that had been installed in a box, for free standing rather than floor use, I sold it for a considerable amount, maybe somebody was buying it for the components !

I like to leave the excess photoresist on to keep the tracks from oxidising. Not that it does any harm, but it looks nice that way. But I rarely do boards at all these days, the costs of production boards with soldermask and silkscreen and everything is just too attractive. Still, the capability to spin your own boards is great for those times where you must have something _today_ . Anyway, this repair was top notch. Please explain how I can like this video twice!
