yeah, the doctor is a time lord and if they are dying, they can regenerate, which means that they sort of are born again or like repair themselves and it leads to them changing their appearance too :)

since the reboot in 2005 every doctor aside from the ninth doctor has usually had 3 whole seasons + some Christmas specials, minisodes before they regenerate into the next doctor. it always be sad and heartbreaking but then you fall in love with the next doctor and the cycle continues :') Amy (Amelia) was the first person the eleventh doctor met after he regenerated and was his first companion- love them together so much along with Amy's husband Rory . in this clip, after 3 seasons the eleventh doctor regenerates into the 12th. this scene is from the last special ep that takes place after season 7. please react to more regeneration scenes and more doctor who in general!!

In this instance, they do switch very quick, but it is usually more of a fun explosion. There is a good compilation of all the regenerations.

The different faces of the Doctor have different lifespans, so some have more seasons than others. After all, you can't control when you die.

It's not death in a sense the Doctor still lives technically just in a new body with different molicules regeneration is not really a "death" it's more of a rejuvenation because we have to keep in mind the Doctor is still the same person despite those different faces.

@@joshuajoshua2732 This reminds me of the conversation 10 had with Wilt. How it still feels like death for the Doctor.

@@NickyTannock It was a nice scene with Wilf but I didn't like that line to be honest with you because that's like the Doctor saying his other incarnations didn't exist it should be normal for a Time Lord to regenerate it's just RTD creating fanfiction because I never heard other Doctors until Tennant ever complain that the Doctors felt like dying before they regenerate they took it like it was a normal process.

@@joshuajoshua2732 10 was the most human out of the reboot. to me it makes sense why he was sad to regenerate. thru his reign there were many instances he sort off rebelled against what it meant to be the doctor - the couple instances where he thought he'd have to be stuck without the Tardis (after saving madam de pompadour, after he and rose got stuck on that planet with the blackhole) and he was perfectly fine with that, fine with having to live a normal human life. his human form in family of blood and how it took the time to show what John smiths life would have been like if he stayed human- while that form wasn't the doctor we still mourned that part of him. his timelord victorious era where he literally went insane bc he wanted to expel his responsibility as the doctor and simply save everyone bc he just can. his desire to spend his life with rose but can't bc he's a timelord and even refers to that as "the curse of the timelords". and finally his regeneration which was very clearly not "doctor-like" and very very human. and it fits so well. 14's ending wrapped it up nicely. him staying still, with a family, a Tardis to explore the universe with but free from the responsibilties of the doctor. its what he's always wanted but could never have as the doctor.

Although some of the strongest memories carry between incarnations, some become a bit vague and remain that way. At the end of this clip, The Doctor is going through a post-regenerative haze. The TARDIS is a complicated ship to pilot and, for a while, he's lost the plot! It takes a while for his mindscape to orientate itself. This clip is the final scene of The Time Of The Doctor. The story that follows is Deep Breath.

To explain the regeneration... In the context of the show overall, it's a written-in option when an actor is ready to leave the role. An actor's run as the Doctor varies, of course, and the debut of a new incarnation is also an opportunity for the new actor to make the role their own. What is "their" Doctor going to be like, what is important to them now? These things get established (and excused) while the new Doctor is disoriented by the process. In the shows context, these moments also mark the current Doctor's "death"-the cessation of who they are and the need to trust a new version to carry on for them. It's a farewell, and each is a varied as the Doctor, so I hope others get recommended 😊

So the show starting from the 60s is continuous throughout, they die and "regenerate" into a new person, and though they might be the same, they are the same people with different aspects and beliefs on life

It's a long and hard way of explaining "regeneration". Matt Smith is the 11th actor play the Doctor and Peter Capaldi is the 12th each time the Doctor regenerates it is the same character with the same memories he's just different with a new personality it's like a change in your molicules of your body. The Doctor is a Time Lord with two hearts whenever a Time Lord's old body wears out or dies or gets badly injured beyond repair their old body dies then rejuvenates into a new body. So far there have been 15 lead actors who have played the Doctor they don't change every season it only happens when an actor decides to leave or if their contracts have expired some actors who have the played the Doctor last longer than others most last over 3 years the longest serving actor who has played the Doctor to date for seven years was the most popular Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) some actors may want to stay longer and there are some that don't because some actors have that fear of being "typecasted". The whole "regeneration" idea started way back in 1966 when original actor William Hartnell was too unwell to continue the role and the writers and producers wanted to keep the show going and had to work out how to keep the character without him so they came up with this clever idea of regeneration and it's been an ongoing trend since.

Everyone has probably explained regeneration to you so I’m not going to get into that, but, yeah, each one is very emotional. You get used to one actor playing the Doctor for a season or two ( three in Tennant’s case), and by the end of their arc they pull the rug right out from under you and suddenly you have to get to know a whole new actor. Because of this change it result in the character and the portrayal to be different, so it’s essentially a new character even though technically speaking it really isn’t. Both Tennant and Smith left their mark on the fans and of course why wouldn’t their departure from the show reflect how much they’ve Impacted people. Tennant was and still is my favorite portrayal of the Doctor, and his regeneration at the end of season 4 left me emotionally grieving Tennant. Yet it was slightly softened by the fact that they made the transition from Tennant to Smith very comical in nature. From the minute Smith appeared in full on screen he was cracking jokes and immediately had one of the most quotable catchphrases in all of tv history- just from his first appearance. However, as you’ve seen, they made a point to really emotionally wreck people with Matt Smith’s finale episode, then metaphorically shoot us all in the heart by not even showing the transition between the two in all it’s glory. It was just like SNAP and he was there. No lingering glowing energy, no showing the face change in detail- just there as if he’d been dropped right in his place, killing the emotional moment ( I’m sure that was intentional though, shock value of course- while overdone it definitely got the desired reactions it was meant to get), but also somehow inducing more of it from the way it just moved on in a flash. We all really understood Clara in those moments after. Instead of the jokes taking some of the blow of the sudden change, it just made us mourn and miss Smith even more. At first I hated that this didn’t drag out the regeneration process as much and give as much time for post regenerative reflection for the Doctor, but eventually I’ve come to really like how different it felt to the previous three. Capaldi’s seasons was the beginning of yet another completely new era of the show. New writers and new sets, new creatures- it’s just something you have to get accustomed to when watching this show, and it makes it the most unique show that’s ever aired ( and yes, that’s including the classic show that this show carried over from). 😃

If you ever read end of finale chapters Of John when Jesus died and came back to life you will soon realize they (Doctor Who) stole a lot of ideals from the Bible. The way companions treat Doctor Who like a God that wants to hang is like Jesus and his Disciples too. Just thinking out loud.
