One of the most popular and loved pieces of streaming equipment is the Elgato Stream Deck. It makes every aspect of streaming easier on the streamer and has a level of functionality that is almost unmatched by any other device in its class. Most people tend to use the stream deck for things like changing scenes, putting a message in their chat, or playing a sound effect. But the Elgato stream deck can do more than you think!
In this video, we'll be taking a look at the stream deck's functionality and I'll be teaching you how to harness the power of multi actions to take your content to the next level! I'll be demonstrating this through one of my best most popular things I do on stream, the graphic high-five. I get asked about how I get a high-five to pop up on screen while making a smacking sound all the time. So in this video, I will show exactly how I do that and the steps it takes to set up your own graphic multi actions.

Super helpful information. The UI for the Stream Deck software isn't exactly hard. But if you don't know what you're looking at, it can be really tough to know exactly how to set things up. Hey if you want extra keys on your 15 key stream deck, you can make a secondary profile with 14 other commands (one key will be used to switch profiles conveniently) , and just make sure to have the switch profile key on both profiles so you can easily switch between them.

@@EagleGarrett it was very helpful but I did mine on stream labs and the part were you out the hot keys didn’t work for me I followed all the steps but when I hit the button on the stream deck only the sound was working my image didn’t pop up . Anything you think could help me ? Or is stream labs just different?

You should use the search bar more e g. to find the Hotkey quicker. You can skip the hotkey binding step by just selecting the obs scene.

You should have dragged the "source" action from OBS section in the stream deck software instead of a hotkey and just make it visible/hidden

I'm so new at this, but here goes my question and thank you for your time. I understand that the source that is playing the sound and the graphics is obviously a computer, but how do I hide the borders of my screen and/or the actual window player that gets triggered? I am using an atem mini and of course the stream deck thank you for your help brother

You need to follow the steps and make sure the image file is a transparent PNG so there are no borders. Does that help?

Thanks brother! Transitions are more handled in OBS. I just switch a scene and in OBS the transitions are custom set so they activate when I click a new scene button. But to switch scenes I use the Stream Deck to switch between scenes for sure.

@@forgivenbigtime7414 a lot of those videos are old. Now it's pretty simple. In the transitions of obs there is a custom transition option and you just use whatever file you'd like to be there. I might have to make a little video on it sometime to update it since the others are old. I'll see if I can find exactly what it's called and let you know.

Hi. I recently got a Stream Deck XL. It has helped my work flow. I created shortcuts and hotkeys on it. I have a question. Do you know how I can insert images (.jpeg .gifs) into chat windows or emails? I've tried "open" and some other functions, but I can't seem to get the button to insert an image to where my cursor is. Can you help me figure this out? Thanks!

Mine shuts down with my PC. Only thing I than think of is you have yours plugged into a powered USB selector that plugs into the wall, which is why it never shuts off with the PC

Hmm I can't quite get it to work. The twitch chat message shows up, but my image and sound is not. Restarted OBS and my computer a couple times and redid the steps from scratch. One weird thing that keeps happening is when I set the hot key for the image and the sound and then put it into a group, it removes the option to set a hotkey for them separately and instead only let's me make a hotkey for the group. Tried rebinding the hotkey to just the group instead, hiding the group and letting the image and sound be seen. Still nothing though. I'm gonna tinker around with it some more but wanted to leave a comment to see if you had any ideas and I'll come back and delete this if I figure it out lol.

Hello and thanks for your information. This is about the Stream Deck. I followed your instructions to the letter even to the point of naming High 5 YT. The Stream Deck right now has the Hands Icon In the window and when I press the button I see a check mark over the Icon and it looks like it is counting down in the background. You had your Folder on the desktop, I have mine on my E Drive. Now when i follow you, all I did different was point to the folder I have the Clap Icon & Sound effect In. When i push the button on the Stream Deck I don't hear any sound but when I go to the folder where the sound file is in, I can click it and hear the clapping. Any Ideas?

how do you set it up to where you press one button and it turns on lights, background lights, turns off over lights, opens obs, fb live, grabs the stream key, puts the stream key into obs, then presses start streaming in obs, pre fills text on fb live description, opens RU-vid to a specific song and starts playing it... then all you have to do is click start streaming on Facebook?

You do need to find each of the elements you want to use. But it's definitely worth it because once you're done, you can use it forever.

Interesting question. I don't know why you'd want to do this though. Kinda defeats the purpose of the StreamDeck. Either way, I don't believe you can as far as I know.

Not sure if anyone could help me with this but I was wondering how I could get the StreamElements activity feed on display on OBS like it is during the video. I am currently using StreamLabs OBS so that might be why I haven't figured it out. Would be really helpful to see the activity feed of StreamElements within OBS and not have to go to the website to check. If anyone can help with that I would appreciate it!

That's an issue in OBS. Go to the audio source in OBS, turn it on, then go to the audio properties for it and select the option to monitor the sources audio when visible. this should make it to where you can hear it too. Hope that helps!

I'm not totally sure in SLOBS but I'm assuming it would work the same. But you'll need to go into the settings and then make your hotkey whatever you want to activate the graphic.

You need a capture card or can stream from your PS4. Stream Deck doesnt help you with that.

OK i think I'll try one last time. I know you are busy. In the Sources window this is what i have. 1. DRDG 2. Hands 3. Subscribe 4. Bell A 5. background 6. Border 7. Video Capture 8. Lava Lamp 9. Logo 10. Mars .. I have Preview Window and Next Program window. Now i don't know if i am working with a different version than you but, In the sources window can you have multiple audio files in it? For Instance I press a button on the deck and the hands pops up with the clapping. After it ends I press a different button and Subscribe with the Bell plays. Can this be done. I have the Hands/Clap in one folder and the Subscribe in a different folder. When i press the Hands Clap it plays and goes off, when i hit the subscribe button the hands lites up and the Bell plays? Also all the boxes in the Preview window, the resize boxes Illuminate. I hope you can help thanks.

Yes, you can have multiple different sources all assigned to different buttons if you want. Just follow these steps for each source individually. And then just assign the files you want for each source. Don't forget to set all your keybinds in OBS and the StreamDeck.

Why do it with hotkey? why not just set OBS source on/off and make composite scene with only source? or combine the sound and image into a single video for a "browser" then have the Deck activate and deactivate the browser? If pressing the hot key is the only thing the deck is being used for it really isnt any different then selecting "0" as the hotkey and pressing it. I just want to make sure im not missing something important.

okay, understanding that a single press will turn on and off, is significant rather then having the button itself as a 2 way switch. Different ways same mission, very cool.

Yes, it's a single press for the whole action. Plus, if you use the hot key, you only need to make one button that will activate it on any scene. If you use the stream deck to turn on and off the source instead, then you'd have to make a button for each scene. The hotkey allows universal use across all scenes.

It does work, as long as you have set it up correctly. Make sure to follow the steps exactly. Also, make sure you have the gif in the right folder.

you realize that you can do this same action without a hotkey using the source function and cooldowns

@@EagleGarrett I have found that sometime hotkeys even usuing Ctrl-Num(keys) interfere with some games keys,adding the image and sounds directly to obs and using the multi action with the right cool downs works without messing with game keys. Let me know if you find this easier,I know I do
