I remember school swimming lessons in the 70's. It was still open air, and 20c in the turnstile to get in. O, and I still live in Elizabeth...

Grear video i lived in Port Pirie in the 70,s and we had a pool similar in size then but now is long gone ,it was a great place to be at ,and great memories, too many of these places are gone now ,i,m glad i grue up in the 70,s

I had swimming lessons in the 60s remember evening freezing all the time and sitting on the wooden seat for swimming sports days my daughter has just turned 50 and she and class mates painted the outside wall was a school project now I am seriously old thanks again for a fantastic film

Unreal. That tower used to be crowded. Reminded me how hot it was in Summer in Elizabeth. The pool was literally an oasis. 👍

Great video, brought back heaps of memories. Learned to dive there, although not very good. I remember the yellow water slide. We all used to stand up at the end and dive off until someone slipped sideways and hit the concrete edge of the diving pool. I can't remember the outcome, but they had to be rescued, resuscitated and taken to hospital. On a better note i remember a band that originated from Elizabeth high called 'Think Floyd' they were really good and played on the grass near the diving pool one night. Thanks for a great video and bringing back so many great memories.

More comments... Learned to swim there in the sixties. I was the first person in Elizabeth to do something called the Safe Swimmers Certificate. Lots of time in the pool fully clothed from memory! Used the gym at the Aquadome in the nineties. Use the gym, pool and spa daily at the moment...decided I needed to be fitter after just turning 70!

Learnt to swim in that pool 55 years ago - many a great day sunbaking and watching the girls go by. Who remembers the Pool manager (Short guy, wearing white shirt and shorts and big sunnies)

Actually some familiar faces in those early photos - including mine! My sister and I were members of the Bethbury Swimming Club and we travelled to other clubs for competitions in the early '60s. And Mum and Dad came on the bus with us. All outside pools, no heating and whatever the weather!

Hey nice to see this waiting on my laptop. Hi mate what a great video, you know I never ever went in there but I do remember the outside of it. I really miss the mid 60s and early 70s in Elizabeth wonderful times. I do remember going to the roller skating rink and landing on my coccyx a few times it didn't half make my eyes water.😭 I wish I could Sub twice you deserve many more Subs than you currently have. 👍🏻

In all its incarnations the Elizabeth Swimming Centre was / is a magic place.

Ah yes, certainly remember the outdoor pools with fondness, although I never went in the diving pool. Shame on the council for “modernising” it in 2008-09

Brings back memories of growing up in the 80's. After a few hours of splashing around and swallowing a like a litre of pool water, we'd finish up by going to HJ's next door for a cheeseburger before heading off home. I kind of remember going rolla skating somewhere as a kid? (was there another place close by?), could very well have been here. Though I do recall there being a timezone in that place in the early nineties

I found that it was great untill they closed it in with a roof. Then it lost its appeal to me. I use to like swimming outside under the sun, without the typical issues you get from a beach. When the roof went on, it just seemed like a big bath in a big bathroom. Not as much fun.
