What a lovely gift for your aunt’s family- a lovely legacy. I made my granddaughter a sweater set using the pattern my mother made every baby in her life, with yarn from my mother-in-law’s stash that I inherited. Lots of sentiment knit by her nana- I love this kind of way to honour those we love.

This has to be my favorite episode! I never laughed so hard until seeing your emotional chicken. I had no idea it was a thing. I totally lost it when you showed our chicken & said it was "spatchcock". You inspired me to step out of my comfort zone & knit an emotional chicken from my stash. Her name is Cleo-Peck-tra, Queen of the Nest. Thank you for the heart wink❤😊

We would allow this emotional support chicken in our office. Believe it or not, one of my partners in our primary care group had a patient who would bring a live chicken with her to her appointments because it was her emotional support animal. That did not go over well with the other patients in the waiting room so we had to insist that she stop but this gal would be welcome anytime.

I totally agree about how fun the ESC is to make. I hate making toys- all those pieces and mine generally end up looking like Frankenstein and scaring small children-lol(just ask my grandchildren)! However, so many podcasters raved about the ESC and the name is cool and they look cute. I followed the you tube video tutorial and knit mine in a weekend and absolutely loved the process and the result. The eyes resolve the how to embroider eyes probes and the face looked good. Mine has green eyes- only colour at our local craft store. I stuffed mine with left over yarn ends that I have collected I over the years, which gives a nice weight and texture, so I agree about wool stuffing being a good choice. Thanks for a fun podcast!

When you put in the safety eyes, after you put on the plastic lock washer, melt the post and push it down with a lighter. This will help to lock them in even better.

Great idea!! But how to melt it? Not like you can risk putting a flame near the yarn.
@jdubbs528
@jdubbs528 6 месяцев назад
@@EsmereldaPea that’s literally what I do. Turn the area where the eyes are inside out and hold back the yarn and put the post in a lighter flame. It doesn’t take long for the plastic post to melt just enough to push it flat with the back end of the lighter.

Ok, so for me...the "One Where Taylor Talks About Her Emotional Support Chicken" is easily top 10 of my most favorite WNH podcasts! Absolutely loved it! But, yes, once you've stuffed her, Plucky (I've named her for you 🥰) will indeed provide infinite amounts of emotional support. How do I know...well I have a knitted cow named Atiba (purchased, not made) and he does that for me. Also, I've been making the My Pretty Brown Dolls by Yolonda Jordan for years (dozens by now) and immediately after she's been crocheted, stuffed and finished, she magically comes to life and animates in a way that puts tears in my eyes each.and.every.time. You'll see. 🥰 Ok, now...WARNING...Grammar Nerd and Homeschool Mom alert to follow!!!!!! - How you know the pronunciation is Pa-tons is that when broken down into syllables, the /a/ is open, therefore making the long vowel sound /ay/. HTH!

Well, I'm sitting here next to my Prince & the RevolusHEN (lots of purple), and I blame Kevin and Ray. They were all excited and had to make one, because Chevyrell had made one, and everyone was making one, and you just HAVE to get the kit because it's so cute, and the packaging is just hilarious and adorable, and it never occurred to me to just buy the pattern off of Ravelry and use my own yarn (duh). The kit was very expensive for what you get, the yarn material is not identified (wool? acrylic? Who knows?), the thicknesses of the different yarns are not the same, and I am usually so good at not falling for The Current Thing, how did this happen to me? Not that the chicken isn't cute. It's cute. It has green eyes and lots of purple, and it's cute. I have one important piece of advice (besides just buying the pattern and using your own yarn): whatever you do, however turned around or mixed up you get (and it won't matter very much because most of it is garter stitch), MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT SIDE WHEN YOU START THE BEAK. If you don't do that, it will be inside out and look stupid. So, mixed review, and I'm feeling a little bit torn (emotionally) from the whole experience, but that's okay because I have an emotional support chicken. 🤨😛

I'm not much of a stuffy knitter, and I've knit two emotional support chickens, and I want to knit an entire flock. I asked my friends and I was told it was not weird if I send everyone off for clinical rotations (I'm a second year med student) with an emotional support chicken. They take about three days to make for me, and since I don't really stash worsted weight yarn they could become a very expensive habit. I knit Betty Egg-White for my best friend (I love the names from The Knitting Tree LA), and when she arrived he gave me chicken puns for the other three Golden Girls actresses, so I may need to knit those up and send him his own flock. I think those will need name tags.

Hi Tayler! I've been watching your videos every week for some time now and I love the info and your presentation. I just had to comment tonight because I was actually working on an "Emotional Support Chicken" at the same time!! And I just giggled out loud through your intro. This pattern is truly a joy to knit. And, yes, the pattern formatting is a bit out of the ordinary but you just have to read through it to figure out where it's going. I am knitting it as an Easter gift for my grandson (age 6-1/2) who is very much like your "tender heart" when it comes to his 'stuffies.' Also he lives in a rural neighborhood and loves helping his neighbor with her chickens. He collects eggs, feeds, and happily and proudly shovels out the coop! This is such a quick and fun knit that I will be knitting a second one for 'Johnny' to give to his chicken mentor, 'Ms. Debbie!'

When you brought the stuffing onto the screen, you reminded me that one of the drivers where I work, brought me a small bag of wool that had been shorn off of his first flock. It hasn’t been washed or anything, but I wonder if I could use it to stuff this bird. 😂. I should wash it first. lol. Anyway, thanks for this episode as I too will be looking for a natural filler - at least to add to what I have. Looking forward to seeing them done. I’ve been seeing other podcasts/Instagram posts featuring this pattern and shared with my husband who thought it was extremely hilarious. He happened to encounter a lady knitting while visiting a friend in the hospital, struck up a conversation with her and mentioned this pattern and she also had seen it and thought the same. Now I find myself planning to knit dear husband one for Christmas in his favorite football team’s colors (lifelong Kansas City fan) and call it “Chief”.

Oh I loved the Emotional Support Chicken. I did a bit of a Google Search on this and it looks like 'real' chickens can be used and called Emotional Support Chickens. They state: 'Emotional support chickens are basically chickens used to provide comfort and entertainment to anxious, depressed, or lonely people.' so there you go. Fascinating...I had no idea!!

I very much enjoy that I'm watching this as I'm working through the body of my second emotional support chicken. 😂

I'm so excited! As soon as I saw the pattern on Ravelry I knew I had to try it. I have not used short rows before, or knit a 3D object. Thanks for sharing the wool stuffing resource, that is a great idea!

You had me at Emotional Support Chicken. I had heard of an emotional support pickle that is crocheted but I really think I need one of these. ASAP

How stinkin' CUTE! I noticed it during the pattern roulette episode and thought "The heck?", but it does have a certain adorable, down-home charm. I might want to make a couple now that you've put your 2 cent's worth in! Thanks for sharing!
