This was always a cool scene. The Skeksis lived a life of twisted desires and cruelty, while the Mystics were peaceful and kind. Their deaths mirrored their ways of life; the old Mystic died peacefully and faded away quietly into the ether, while the emperor Skeksis died painfully and disgustingly crumbled away into dust.
Well I mean he was messing around with The Darkening for god knows how long. Idk how much time passes in between the series and the movie. We'll probably never know bc Netflix is run by idiots.
@@SeenAGreatLightI’ll tell you! They took food, I forget what kind, and shaped it as his face. Then filmed it as a time lapse, so it rotted probably over a month or so. I saw that online somewhere before
@@SeenAGreatLight I heard it was wax holding it together that melted at different temperatures and they slowly turned up the heat to make it crumble like that.
To be fair he was already falling apart in the show, like his beak having to be replaced with metal and his finger just detaching mid-meal. Don't do drugs kids.
How the Skesis die in comparison to the Mystics is an interesting thing, actually. As the two are halves of a whole, when a Mystic dies, they are at peace and disappear while the good they did still influences those they knew. When a Skesis dies, they are still greedy, territorial, and downright unpleasant, while the others watch and wait for the moment to come. The final act of good from Jen's master was raising Jen to ensure he saves the world. Jen took those lessons and used them to find what he needed to fix the crystal and put an end to the pain brought by it's shattering.
I notices two little Details in this Scene 1. In 1:12 when the emperor dies all of the Skepsis except skekShod move Back. This could be, because SkekSo once hitted him in the back of the head and since then SkekShod hated him. 2. In 1:32 after the emperor dies skeksis Like the Scientist and Slavemaster (who Support SkekUng), Scrollkeeper and Ornamentalist (who Supports the Chamberlain), Treasurer and Gourmand (who Supports the Ritual Master) are knoding to each other Like in a way "time for a new emperor"
I've always wondered what happened to the Skeksis Emperor and the Mystic Master after the crystal was healed. Were their spirits rejoined? Are there even spirits in this world? Aughra thinks the urRu master "could be anywhere" after he died, and she's the keeper of all the secrets. The whole splitting-in-two thing has so many interesting questions attached to it.
I think that if they died before the conjunction they just died. Which is depressing. But it gives their actions weight. The emperor fucked around and found out.
I'm guessing since in the graphic novel beneath the dark crystal we seen the souls of skekSil and urSol in the dreamspace when Thurma was unconscious, so I'm guess this is where these two halves go when they died.
Well when she said, "could be anywhere" I think that was intended to be A.witty humor and B.A testament to how batshit Aughra was. I don't think they've ever hinted at it or discussed what became of those who died before they could be rejoined.
Watching the movie before AOR "damn that was creepy. But also pathetic. Look how he can hardly breathe and speak and is so weak, and yet they still fear him. He must have been very cruel and powerful during all his life. All we see is what he did, the result of the genocide, but we can imaginr how ruthless he was so we are impressed by him a post mortem way" Watching again after AOR "OOOH IT HURTS UH OOOH SO SCARY ISNT IT HMMM HOW DOES IT FEEL LIKE SUFFERING AND DYING AFTER HAVING DONE THAT TO SO MANY PEOPLE UH ? HOW TABLES TURN"
@@patrik9328 bud light is or anything owned by anhauser-busch, are you not aware? Dylan Mulvaney shilled for it and since then I haven't drank a drop. they willingly hired a pedophilic sickening sexist scumbag to promote their beer, bud light is DEAD to me, it's all blue moon and miller from now on.
Dang, does this hit different after Age of Resistance. If SkekSo hadn't had such a raging power hard-on for the Darkening, he probably still would've been alive and kicking.
I really hope in Age of Resistance season two we get to see more of urSu the master. Learn more about him as a character and his motivations the same way we did with the Emperor.
ok so my question is that is it a coincidence that Yoda dies in this exact same way in Return of the Jedi like just half a year later? (December 17th 1982 - May 25 1983) Granted production of Return of the Jedi began in January of 1982 but c'mon man, damn...
if remember the production notes state that Yoda was not supposed to return he just diapered as mysterious as he arrived. But they need some one with some kind of clot to confirm the unsubstantiated claims of Vader being Luke's father so they picked Yoda.
