i don't think the very end is as bleak as people think. notice how the little kid at the end with the dog looks like Eren, same hair color, similar scarf so it is my theory that Eren absorbed the power of the Hallucigenia, when his head was burried under the tree that power fused with the tree, granting it amazing life force so it survived the thousands of years of war that occured, than however long in the future Eren was reincarnated. the little kid at the end is a reincarnated Eren in a post apocalyptic, marching towards destiny. the series is about Cyclical destiny. Eren was stuck in a cycle of violence, this Time Eren will repeat a cycle but not a cycle of death but rebirth. the kid who looks identical to Eren will fall in the hole this time the hallucigenia will not be their instead he will connect to the source of all organic matter/life who will have Erens image and he will gain access to its power and than use it to shape a new type of power(the titans were Ymir's way of being stronger and bigger to survive danger) and he will than rebuild society with this power like how Ymir built up the world for Eldia but in a none violent way(and of course fight evil)

100%. This show is too smart for most of its audience. Armin's talk with Zeke; the baby on the cliff; the show makes a strong point that humanity struggles on for each little moment, even if there's an ultimate cycle of violence and death, because those little moments are what we live for, not as a means to an end.

Eren never wanted to save the world he wanted to save his FAMILY aka the people he cared about. People say Eren’s final moments were out of character but it makes perfect sense considering the situation. His head is screwed. He’s seeing all of existence all at once. He’s a baby, a kid, a teenager and all the other past wielders of the Attack Titan all at once. Not to mention he’s having to face the realisation of his actions that he tried to hide behind through his “giga-chad” act he put on at the start of Season 4. All this while he’s about to die and talking to his friend one last time. I doubt anyone would be the same after all this. And it shows that no one should think Eren’s actions were the right thing to do because even he doesn’t believe that.

I had a little bit of a different perspective on Eren during the Rumbling, and that was how Eren DID want to commit genocide on the world. While, yes, he did it to save his friends too, his main reason was to make the world into HIS version of freedom, which is what he saw in Armin's book as a child. He even says this to Ramzi while on Marley, how he was so disappointed when he learned that the world outside the walls wasn't a vast empty land waiting for him to explore and that while he knows the atrocity he's about to commit, he does it anyway. He isn't apologizing for destroying the world, he's apologizing for wanting to destroy it. This is further illustrated during the basement talk with Reiner, where Eren pushes him to admit that breaking down the wall in the first episode was in actuality due to Reiner's desire to be a hero, and that he's just using "saving the world" as a mask for his true reason. Eren says "I'm the same", implying that he too is doing the same thing: Using a selfless excuse (saving his friends) for a selfish act (wanting his own version of a free world). Eren is both an incredibly layered and complex character, yet is also the exact same person from who he was in the very first episode to the very last: a psychotic, immature, irrational child who only sees rage as a solution. The problem is that, in time, that same emotional child gains the power to destroy the entire world, which is why in the Season 2 finale Reiner says that Eren is the last person who should wield such a power. When you see the scene of him free above the clouds as a child, with the slaughtering of billions of innocent people underneath, that's Eren in his purest form: a disillusioned child who has a warped idea of freedom. At the very end, when discussing with Armin as to why he used the Rumbling, he says he doesn't know. I think this is the author explaining how Eren has always been this way, and that while the future isn't decided, who Eren is as a person is, which is why he couldn't stop it from happening. Saving his friends and the people on Paradis is a reason, yes, but Eren uses that reasoning as a cover as to why he actually starts the Rumbling: He wants to.

The way I interpret the ending of the titans is that Yimir saw that Mikasa killed her own loved one and therefore realized that she herself could also release herself from slavery from her loved one being king Fritz. That way, no titans will be manually crafted by her. Eren basically planned this all out, he hated titans and wanted them gone so he set the future where he can show Yimir Mikasa killing him while also making his friends the heroes that saved what's left of humanity. Eren probably had the power to change the past so that Titans wouldn't have been a problem to the world but doing so would mean that Eren, Mikasa and Armin wouldn't have existed or met and like Armin said to Zeke, despite all the misery life offers, they're happy to be born to enjoy the happy and seemingly insignificant moments that they had.

People have said they don’t understand why Ymir would love king Fritz but I think it’s important to remember Ymir had NOTHING, and all she ever wanted was connection. The first person to give her any kind of connection was unfortunately king Fritz, while he terrorized her and enslaved her, he was her first true source of connection to the world. I think this is also a big part of why mikasa was the one who truly freed Ymir in the end. She was able to love Eren with all of her heart, she felt a great debt to Eren for saving her life as a child (from slavery which is another great parallel between mikasa and Ymir) and yet despite that she was still able to stand against him and be the one to take his life. I absolutely loved how this series ended and I will be forever in awe with the foreshadowing this series managed to pull off.

So I HAVE comment about the little scene with the baby. I love what it shows. It shows that even in the worst moment people are still caring, as this stranger catches the baby, likely tried to catch the mother, and then begged other strangers to pass the baby forward hoping to delay the little one's fate as long as possible, and people just pass the child forward, hoping in what they believe to be in vain, that somehow, this little life will make it.

one of the most tragic things about eren is he's never been able to have the sense of hope and wonder that armin has, so much so that in his final moments with him in the Paths he watches armin's gaze of wonder and knows he can't feel it himself. eren destroyed the world to protect his friends, but used that as a double-edged sword to rectify his wrongs that he committed because the world wasn't like the book he and his friends read as children. there are so many horrifically tragic layers to eren and i feel like they become most apparent upon a re-watch, especially this finale

Some little details I spotted: Eren's death in the mouth of a titan was foreshadowed in season 1 when he saved Armin. The last notes of the final song, when the boy begins approaching the tree, are the same notes from the chorus of the first opening. The titan we see breaking another over his back was Eren Kruger. He broke the ship him and Grisha arrived on the same way. I was not expecting you to clock that the Ram Titan was Mr. Ksaver, nicely done. There's many more blink and you'll miss it details in this masterpiece of a final episode, and it has been a wonderful experience watching along with you all ❤️

The leading theory about Historia is that Eren and Historia had a "moment" together before he went off to destroy everything. Mikasa and Eren can't be together. Mikasa moved on with Jean. Historia couldn't be with Ymir. She took a moment's reprieve with Eren. If you look at Historia's child in her final scene, she looks exactly like Carla/Eren. She even has Carla's golden eyes. Eren's reprieve with Historia gave him the strength to do what came next. And stopped the military from exploiting Historia for her royal blood in the process. A union of convenience and comfort for both of them.

I love Zeke building sandcastles during what is essentially the end of the world. He's so iconic. One of my favorite characters to be honest. I absolutely love the moment of Armin saying thank you to Eren and it cuts to Eren looking shocked because it feels very reminiscent of Mikasa thanking Eren for wrapping her scarf. Both Armin and Mikasa thanked Eren for helping them and showed him appreciation when he thought he was worthless. They told him that he was worth something. That he didn't have to ever share that burden alone. After all these years, it's finally over. We are free. Goodbye to all of the amazing characters from this story, both alive and dead. Goodbye Armin and Mikasa. And to Eren, the boy who sought freedom, goodbye. Thank you, Isayama.

Here's my take about Mikasa's life after the rumbling. White flowers are liteally common for funerals, it doesn't always mean purity or virginity. Mikasa had a ring on her finger and she didn't pass down the Ackerman symbol to her kid because her family's purpose was no longer to protect the Kings. Her son probably took his father's last name too. Mikasa was only 19 and Eren himself said he wanted her to be happy and continue to live. He would always be a part of her life and she would never forget him, that's why Jean was there to be with Mikasa and got married with her because he understood. The ending where Mikasa visited Eren's grave with a man and a kid, that was Jean and their kid.

Its worth noting that, while one *can* take away that the last little scene with the boy and his dog in the far future is alluding to the reality that conflict is cyclical and will always exist, that is *not* in any way confirmed by the scene either. Its left open ended for a reason. Its also worth noting the specific differences the scene had when compared to the scene where we see Ymir first enter the tree. In Ymir's scene, she was afraid and panicking, desperate for a way to live and protect herself, being chased by rabid dogs that could smell her blood. Because of that, when the source of all living matter or whatever you want to think of it as, attached itself to Ymir, it manifested, as Zeke said, a "Seamingly immortal body" in which no one would be able to hurt her anymore. It could be said that what was created as a result of the attaching of that source to Ymir, has some kind of correlation to Ymir's desires and needs themselves, meaning that the creation of the first Titan, is a direct result of the connection between Ymir and that source. Maybe, if it had connected to someone else, in different circumstances, something else would have been created. When we see this young adventurer, he is calm and peaceful, accompanied by a friendly dog and wrapped around a similar scarf to the one Eren once passed on to Mikasa. A symbol of their connection, and in Mikasa's specific case, Home. This is a *deliberate* contrast to Ymir's circumstances and feelings at the time of finding this source of all living matter. From a Mangaka's perspective, when you have to story board, and plan out every single specific component of your drawings, nothing you put on the page is accidental, if you're a good and passionate author at least. Everything takes time to create and is thus, there for a purpose, to communicate something, whether specific or ambiguous. Because of this, i dont think the most likely result of this boy finding the source of all living matter, is another Titan curse. It symbolizes the birth of something new, a new cycle, maybe one of conflict, or one thatll come to represent a more peaceful and understanding generation. Its the hope behind the birth of something new. Regardless, the story isnt blind to the reality that conflict will always be a part of Humanity either, its why we see Paradis being eventually destroyed in the distant future anyway, in some new war, maybe tied to the conflicts of the past, maybe not. But i also feel this story has also always communicated that, the only hope of us comming to create a better tomorrow, a future where we can understand each other, is to not give up and always fight as though it *is* a possibility, because if we dont even try, thats when we guarantee itll never happen anyway. Or, i guess, how Historia herself phrases it, much less convoluted and in a less cheesy way than i did, "If we must fight, let it be for an end to fighting..." Personally i love the ending to this story, both thematically and in how it handled the end of all of the character's arcs. Maybe it could have been paced better, or even had a more concrete and certain way of delivering specific answers to us. Personally though, for various reasons, i think everything that needs to be there, is there and i loved the nuance and attention to detail in the dialogue and visuals themselves working together to point us in the direction of the some of the more obscure answers that wouldnt make sense for our characters to suddenly come out and just gives us an essay on why they all are and happened in the way that they did. I guess what im trying to say is, i wouldnt have had this story end in any other way. I hope a lot of the people that dont feel the same eventually at least come to terms with what we got, either on a rewatch, or just come to peace with the reality that this story has ended, and this is the ending we got. Then maybe we can start actually looking at what the story *said* and communicated, rather than what we *wish* was said instead.

I used to think the credits scenes made things pointless. But then I considered the alternative being so much more unrealistic. When the boy finally finds the tree I took it as hopeful. Even after the world seemingly ends there is this boy with his dog calmly exploring the world (like Armin and, in part, Eren wanted with the book and all that). It's a direct parallel to Yrmir when she found the tree. Yrmir was running in a panic, and the boy walked calmly. Yrmir was chased by dogs, and the boy had a friendly dog with him. Yrmir was hurt and bleeding, the boy had bandages around his wounds. It seems that even if the boy awakens any power in there, it would be much more benevolent this time. Even if we constantly self-destruct we learn and there is hope, even if at great cost.

The english dub is so good for this show and for the finale, I preferred this to the original japanese version because while the voice actors are good there too, the subtitles are not good and takes me away from the experience. Also, Armin's VA is pristine in this version.
