As of June 12, 2009, only two broadcast channels in Columbus, Ohio - WBNS (10) and WSYX (6) - are broadcasting significant programming over their traditional analog signals. This video, taken a few hours before the midnight deadline for turning off those signals for good, documents what these and a few other Columbus-area analog signals are doing in preparation for the mandatory transition to digital TV. A second video, still to come later tonight, will document the actual moment analog transmissions cease.
Yes, I'm quite aware that I'm recording this using a hybrid (analog/digital) antenna connected to a modern digital TV, which is technically "cheating" for some TV nerds. Unfortunately, I don't currently have an old-style TV where I can get at it easily, so this video loses some authenticity points. Also, sorry for any poor-quality audio; I'm still trying to figure out the best sound balances.
No ownership claimed. I'm merely recording this for historical interest.
