The charity shops I go in are stuck with the same, "ebay priced" stock that just sits there for weeks on end, not shifting. They're very often empty too. People don't want to spend huge amounts in a charity shop. Their priority should be shifting stuff in volume.

@seasons7510 Месяц назад
The difference for a charity shop to realise for pricing is that you have a world wide audience they have the people who come into the shop if they want to sell it at such a higher price they should put it online pack it / send it and deal with the problems that come with it

If they think they're getting the same traffic that eBay gets they're deluded. Someone in Germany might pay £40 for a pair of jeans that wouldn't shift for a tenner in a charity shop. That customer is NEVER going in the charity shop, and the shop isn't going to ship it. That said, I can deal with a few high prices here and there. It's the ATTITUDE some of these shops are giving me locally when I'm going in on a regular basis and buying their STOCK THEY GOT FOR FREE. This adds up to hundreds of pounds over the year, not to mention the amount of good, saleable stuff I've donated that I can't sell myself AND the damaged/mislabelled stuff/misfires I bought from them in error and DIDN'T RETURN to save them the hassle. Someone at the top needs to get a grip.

Some charity shops come up with more dynamic ways of selling, the one i help out at, 1st sat of every month they clear the floor, dump it on tables, have a bric and brac sale, and have tea and cakes, 4 items for 1 pound its brilliant! and fun, I dont go into big named ones anymore some are ok but you know how it is, plus their prices go up and down like a yo yo lol

Yes I think they're dead. There's an Accorn by me, and old guy over 80 was in there, wanted a coat but didn't have enough money, he was about £5 short. The charity shop wouldn't give it him! If that's not charity I don't know what is! Anyway they would.of made him go without, the guy that was infront of me we were both saying to the staff you should let him have it, but they were havin none of it. The guy infront payed for it in full for the guy. I dont even look in this shop anymore.

We can’t blame charity shops for wising up about their pricing when video after video of resellers profiting on their naïveté are all over RU-vid handing out a free education. I do agree though that some pricing is crazy. With the amount of information out there it is no wonder households are more savvy now, their best stuff goes on eBay/Vinted and what they consider the junk goes to charity. For resellers this is only going to get more difficult. I was in a charity shop recently and an elderly volunteer asked me to help her figure out how to use Google lens to price pottery as the manager asked her to start doing it.
@gravelbags2479
@gravelbags2479 Месяц назад
But 1 issue with this style of management from the charity shops is I've been to so many with signs up saying no more donations because they're full, they're full because they aren't selling, they aren't selling because they're too expensive, if they want ebay prices they have to go all in and sell on ebay
@ste5879
@ste5879 Месяц назад
Agreed. What they have to remember is resellers part with plenty of money in their shops, often on niche items that nobody else will touch. When we see them using Google Lens, scanning their media into Ziffit, writing their price vs the online price on their items and so on, we are less likely to go out of our way to go in and spend money with them.

I no longer go in to these .I would normally find something I wanted.. Some of the people working in charity shops think they know it all. I could see the manager and how up his own backside he was. i worked for my local hospice for 3 years. The charity side of it only raises about 10% of all funds raised. 6 shops about 40 full time staff. They also have a full time online ebay depop etc department. Lets put it this way, on my own, i do as much business online as they do with a team of 5, and they don't pay for goods either. After covid to help reduce costs they cut staff numbers to save around 100k a year. What did they do with the savings? employed a director of income generation, salary ...... £100k what did she bring to the table that was worth this much? Sweet F A!!!! (She left 7 months later to work for a different charity on even more money!) The higher you get up the chain, the better it gets for you, jobs for the boys. These people are the reason for more expensive items in shops,, remember there is normally only one full time paid member in the shop, the rest will be volunteers who kinda guess the prices of things. You can definitely still find the bargains in the shops.

It’ll never sell for that, hence why they sold it for a tenner… £20 for a used Allsaints T-shirt is disgusting too. These are higher prices that eBay and it’s only hurting themselves. My regular charity shops sit on the same stock for weeks/months at overly ambitious prices, before sending them off to the rag house. High street footfall doesn’t match eBay. Most charity shops are over stocked. They get everything for free and they’re pricing out regular shoppers. Forget the resellers. There are so many people on low income who rely on charity shops for clothing, who can no longer afford these mental prices. Beyond frustrating and in no way sustainable. I've seen the sorting areas in some places, they are chocka with stuff, they have so much they end up chucking some away. Instead of holding out for higher prices they should stack it high, sell it cheap.
