Ngl, I miss getting new lore and a storyline, but I miss even more the T5G videos explaining and theorizing about new stuff 😭

I personally think once Fortnite started to make collabs a central point of the story is when it started to fall apart and Fortnite lost its soul

8:40 that’s why I think the DC x Fortnite comics were so much better because it was about these characters being dropped onto the island and learning about their environment. While the Marvel comics felt like lost plot progression because they were releasing after the live event that they were building up to.

Fortnite metaverse is slowing killing... The Battle Royale mode... Or should I say what fortnite always used to be? No more map changes during mid-season, no more storyline...this game is losing it identity and it's dying

It feels like EpicGames is moving on from Fortnite BR storyline and then moving into the Metaverse storyline forever meaning the Game will soon be an official dead game until someone from the future decides to fix the mistakes that we did in the past

The Big Bang event was so cool but the result of it was the thing that made me hate it. We went through quests and stories and the lore just.. ended? We never knew what we were supposed to retrieve for slone, we never got any lore regarding the nothing, we don’t know what happened to amie, we never heard any mention of the seven, and we never got a good conclusion to the Donald mustard storylines and instead, all we got was “Yup. Throw it all away and replace it with the meta verse”. Extremely disappointing

Fortnites lore is going down the drain.. they really need to spice it up next season.

I appreciate Donald's genuine enthusiasm for the game. Hopefully, the executives at Epic will eventually come to the realization that their efforts to improve the game aren't all that wonderful. It's unfortunate to see the game devolve into a metaverse-style game, which I'm sure neither Donald nor any of us really desired, but the events are what really made this game so amazing. The plot, gameplay, cartoonish graphics, and bright UI were all excellent.

Unfortunately, all great things must come to an end. 2018-20 was peak and will never be matched. The metaverse ended up being a rushed out concept that could have been introduced so much better. And now it’s killing the game.

I came in to fortnite around season 5 of OG fortnite. I remember the excitement of finding that purple cube tucked off somewhere and how when i attacked it out of curiosity it tried to kill me! I remember looking for videos and only seeing theories about what this cube was and its purpose. the community was so patient they were so interconnected not with just each other but also the game itself. The story really did make fortnite DIFFERENT from other battle royales. Not the goofy style or emotes. Not the wacky guns. All of those things are typical to any battle royale. What really set fortnite aside from its competition was how it took that basic gameplay loop and added an actual plot line to it. Each season felt connected to the next and made me look forward to each battle pass and story that would unfold. I dont know when it happened but i noticed somewhere in the last chapter that the game started to feel...... content with where it was. And that's when i found myself not having as much fun as i usually did. Please epic, dont give up on the plot of fortnite. It can be done. its been done before. it just takes time and actual effort. not outsourcing. The multiverse is an infinite place.

To be honest I always thought Donald was the one slowly killing the game from the beginning when he first started the storyline with all the changes and collabs he kept doing but after hearing about his retirement from being a world wide creative director and seeing nothing exciting happening anymore made me wish that he would come back some how and finish what he stopped on that made him decide to retire in the first place. Man the things that made me think of that made me not want to trust him all that much made me feel bad about it 😭

They should understand that storylines and live events were something that made fortnite stand out from other games. They don't understand that forcefully inducing the metaverse into the game only to make some new mini games and collabs while silently killing the storyline might destroy the game's meaning completely. I mean the community is not dumb, they will point out what's wrong and feeling off in the game and eventually leave it for good no matter how much the devs try to convince them. If they want to keep their magic going on for a longer time, they should spend a lot of their time on the most important thing in the game, which is the storyline.

there were audio logs for the og season that partially explained the lead up to the rocket, i didnt find all of them i think but it did make a bit of sense. from what i remembered, slone wanted to reset universe so she could take control again, and jonesy was basically like i wont let you, and went to reset the universe in a different way. at least im pretty sure thats how it went

fortnite was my life since i was in middle school. seeing it change so much was hard but welcome for the most part bcuz i loved the nostalgia of it but this makes me sad seeing the storyline end and the changes being so drastic. fortnite really lost its soul and personality,hopefully it can find its footing again but i dont think it will for a while but its still a popular game and likely not going anywhere.

With the multiverse idea theres still the opportunity for the seven to return. Theres so many amazing plot points that given the time and energy could be tied together to bring back that story line. This current map is so... realistic? It's lost the cartoonish fantasy element. I hope that with a return to OG we can get back to the story. I'd love to see all of our favourites on the map at once. Jonesy, The Foundation, Midas, Kado Thorne, The Ageless, Sloane, the rest of the seven, the IO, even the Herald.... you'd think with us having the underworld the souls of everybody could return. Not just Midas.

Great summary. I've been playing since OG Season 4 and have enjoyed the storylines and live reveals, but I started losing interest at the tail end of Chapter 3 and really don't play it much anymore since starting Chapter 4. I got back into Minecraft and now enjoy playing open world games moreso than BR. Hoping they will eventually tie the storyline back but I don't see it happening. 🤷

Nobody ever wanted lego or rocket racing, and those game modes are dead too. People played Fortnite because it was simple, cartoony and exeating. But Now its grey and dead, game has no colors, its sucha pity to see one of the greatest games to ever release finally reaching its end.

This feels like a comic I am reading called “Bad Ending Maker”. The maker of a giant game is fired from a company that now only wants to make money from the game. They don’t care about the players or the good parts of story, they want a persons wallet. I really don’t like the new Fortnite passes that I need for all the cool things. I loved the TMNT pass but I couldn’t just grind for it. Fortnite is turning to money and it shows. I wish we had better live events again

Im really sad that the storyline has basically just completed disappeared because every season there was story quests i would play for hours trying to find out what was happening and it was just really fun and the story was one of the things that made the game

The game in general also feels bland too, the guns are lame and get "balanced" every other week, the vehicles are lame the mythics are either lame or broken and the map has no personality to it.

The way the chapters are quickly passing too fast and making the multiverse very confusing since we keep somehow travelling through seem, it seems like Epic confused themselves

I only got into Fortnite around mid Chapter 4. I'm sad I missed out on all the story stuff going on, and likely wont ever get to experience any live events myself. I wish they had zero build from the start, one of the main reasons I never got into the game back then was because I hated the building aspect.

how i would have taken the story: S4: the meteor lands, and once it hatches there’s a secret challenge to follow footsteps left by the [???] to a location. This would reveal the visitors helmet and a board with the rocket plans on. Then everything goes as it did back then apart from the fact that instead of an unknown voice we would hear the scientist + foundation guiding the rocket

I remember when there was connection between the battle royale and save the world mode. It all started when purple cube kevin disappeared from the battle royale and it was move to save the world mode as the storm king,after that there was some events to bring back purple cube kevin to the Battle royale mode.

I remember hopping onto Fortnite and enjoy the map with good and big mid-season changes, one that really changed teh way u used to play the battle royale mode, my Main attraction were the LTM’s but now its just repetitive, no mid-season changes, no ltm’s (the floor is lava tho ), no storyline and lore, no live events. I was so hyped for Big Bang but all it turned out was an advertisement video. I have played lego Fortnite and racing just once or twice and festival never in my life. They just messing the game to compete with Roblox

Charlie Wen (the guy who's replacing Donald Mustard) seems like he is doing a great job so far with the return of LTM's and the return of Midas, an upcoming MARVEL season, this guy seems like he knows what he is doing. And about live events, tbh for me PERSONALLY I could get behind that if they keep doing mini events as well and I think Charle just need more time and he could bring back the story line. I think it WOULD be different, but it would be good. Give it time

I miss the storyline. I remember really loving the game because of its story, but now when I play it’s just to get my money’s worth for buying the battle pass. I don’t really have a reason to play the game anymore other than that and it’s really sad

The most popular cause of demise for many great things: greed suffocating the passion and purpose something/someone started out with, doesn't matter if it is beloved games, movie/tv franchises, tech companies, or government and politicians, this is the general theme. I wish one day, people in power would be happy with what they got, get satisfaction from the joy they can provide - not asking for self-sacrifice - instead of wanting sums of money they don't know how to use but to waste.

I feel that they could still salvage a story for this year at least. We know that the next season will be an apocalypse theme which could be the fallout of the gods season we are in. The apocalypse season could tie in nicely with Deadpool and Wolverine coming out as the Void. That would get us thru the Summer at least before we head into Fortnightmares

Every time Top5Gaming shows that the Fracture event had a cut out cutscene but every time that I see the cutscene I always say “ cool why is the cutscene important” all it shows us is the zero point getting captured just to break out like how would that cutscene add to the story maybe if the cutscene showed us a character we never seen before than it would be important but is just the zero point escaping the ship which really doesn’t show us anything that matters.

I feel like it’s a pause on storyline until they get the metaverse where they want it they will still sprinkle us with lil bit here and there

I’m rlly bad at remembering which season is which but I think it was the season where the island was flipped was when I finally started playing more Fortnite. It was that live event where I got introduced to the story line, which I really enjoyed! It was something different compared to any other game that I’ve ever played. But ever since the seven basically disappeared, I’ve been slowly loosing interest in the story part of it. It just sadly hasn’t been as good as it used to. I’m hoping Fortnite will realize this and maybe try to work harder on the story of the game and less on the collabs

As someone who’s played fortnite since it’s beginning, I’m definitely one of the few that would say I like what they’re doing, one of the biggest things for me was how boring it was playing either save the world, or battle royale and how they felt repetitive no matter what they added, I stopped when they introduced those big ass mechs and started back up only a month ago. I love the fact there’s more variety, games where I can chill and play random stuff like being a lumberjack, a Lego person, or even playing a guitar hero esque game (which I enjoyed when I was a kid). Again my opinion is my own, and understand people miss the story, and the “nostalgia” of old fortnite, which I do aswell, But I believe the game has a lot of stuff you can do. And since nothing is basically pay walled (besides cosmetics and admittedly the constantly rolling songs) like Roblox and minecraft online servers have become. It’s kind of refreshing.

The events in this game were literally what made the story of it, just the story too like the buildup to the unvaulting event even though that was kinda a little bit random was one of the coolest events I ever experienced, even collision then even though it was rushed was so good that they really could have ended everything there and I don't think the reaction to switching would be as bad you just can't drop stuff like that though like no saying 'we're moving resources so events may be delayed' something like that could have worked to soften it a little bit but the hand event gave me hope that fortnite will slowly return to making the classic live events they were known for because honestly like I came back to Fortnite for this it's really something to have these once in a lifetime events I miss them

I ended up finally trying Fortnite back when it was the Invasion season, I was bored had nothing to do and said "Well it's a free game, I'll try it." and honestly what hooked me was that the game had an actual story. I thought all these years it was just some goofy BR game and didn't really have much interest in it, but as I kept playing during Invasion and saw the game told an actual story throughout the season I was shocked and I ended up going back and watching videos for past season and chapter story stuff. When the Marvel comic stuff happened for the event I was worried and then after the Fracture event I felt like things weren't right, Chapter 4 story wise was extremely bad and things just weren't answered and as time went on it got worse. It really sucks that the very thing that got me to give the game a chance and stick with it is what was sacrificed for Lego, Racing and a Rock Band game modes because yeah Donald was right, the story and events were the magic and I wish I had been in the game sooner to see those golden years.

I personally think that the storyline might come back soon. Especially since we got the mini live event with Pandora’s box. And like what Donald mustard said, with the event team going used to make Lego Fortnite, rocket racing, and festival, with all of those being completed they will likely hire more people to keep updating those games specifically, and the event team will go back to doing what they do best… but that is all best case scenario.

fractured was the first live event i was able to play ever, i was excited and loved it, but felt that something was a bit off. and i found out everyone hated it, it made sense why it felt off

It feels like from now on, the story that's in a season is only for THAT season and now Fortnite doesn't even have a real "storyline" anymore. This is especially upsetting to me because I remember researching the story after going to my first ever live event The Device. I pray and hope that Epic will see that literally no one wants this metaverse. Especially if it means going away from the true experience of the game. 😢

Fortnite story was the only thing that held me in after stupid season long collabs started happening (which made game really not enjoyable)...and eventually that also felt lost...i stopped playing even so the game is still on my pc and still have crew connected. But I may cut it off soon...the thought been appearing in my head a lot lately. Shame... I really loved this game....since first day in Save the world ...before BoR even was incorporated.

This is an amazing video. I’m a Fortnite fan but I’ll admit I never bothered with the storyline. I understand why I wasn’t drawn in now though - I started playing during Chapter 3 and missed the most interesting stories! Even though I don’t tend to get drawn into complex story games, I absolutely miss that aspect of the game anyway. I even hoped the Lego game would have a story! lol. Anyway, well done! I jumped on the bandwagon playing Fortnite when it was still new along with PUBG. I tried creating a character but the selection of customisation was behind a paywall, in spite of that I continued playing a game or two discovering the mechanics as I play through. The art style was off-putting but I gave it a second chance and ignored it, until I encountered the defense building mechanics that put the nail to the coffin and decided to uninstall it. I'm currently playing The Finals, and it got me hooked the first time. Embark Studios made it appealing to those who had come from different backgrounds of battle royale games. Most importantly they are generous with the amount of character customisation and item skins you get as you gain XP. They are not lazy to design the skins with taste.

between having endless colabs and adding entire setup of separate games within a game (lego, racing, festival aka rockband) it's a absolute wonder that they could even have anything akin to a continuing storyline and/or lore...💯

personally i think that the fortnite storyline got reset, when it introduced timetravel, what happened was it reset it so that chapter 2 never happened, everything is new, and we are looking at a new story
