It was basically like seeing a friend have a mental breakdown every episode and being unable to do anything. Shows how amazingly written this is. We only care about all of this because we care about about the characters, because we care about Steven.

@OMG Thesechocodiles oh yeah, because they did so well in that department right? I mean, they either weren't there, when they were they just made everything worse by making everything about themselves (Greg, the Diamonds), got the problem completely wrong and treated Steven like something to be feared instead of understood (the Gems) or just straight up used him for their own personal gain while ignoring his issues (Peridot, Jasper, although Peridot at least realized her screwed up and comforted him by the end, what happened to that, and Jasper is Jasper, so it makes sense). He had literally a hundred reasons to push them away, being because he was afraid they would fall apart on him and he would have to put them back together, like ALWAYS, or not wanting or knowing how to ask for help without feeling like a selfish prick, because oh, look at that! He never actually asked for help before. Or, you know, he had pretty bad stuff to say about all of them, all pretty much justified, so I'm pretty sure it's not hard to see why Steven FUCKING Universe wouldn't want to tell anyone about that, even if he had all the right to. They didn't even listen to him when it came to Bluebird, which made his fear that they would probably just brush this whole thing off like they used to do in the past. He couldn't trust them to talk about his problems, and he couldn't trust himself to tell them about it. He only started to actually completely avoid them and beg for space and simply do everything he could to not let them help him after he crashed Greg's van, because he could barely even think about something even remotely bad without almost blowing something up. Of course he wouldn't want them to be near him then. If only they had actually done something about it before... but nah, better just let him ask Connie to marry him even knowing fully well that that would end really badly. Fuck his feelings and mental health, he has to learn a completely unnecessary lesson that we could've easily explained to him without just letting him fuck himself.

@OMG Thesechocodiles I saw that video way before you sent it to me, and I only saw the show bending itself around to make the gems not be there or realize something was wrong until it was far too late, or Steven just acting out of character and dragging it out for as long as the plot needed him to. This wasn't just a narrative problem, it was a pacing problem that the show itself had. Yeah, probably should've had more than twenty episodes... I don't know, I just assumed that the Gems not being there for him or making things worse when they were was kinda the point, and Steven acting stupid was also the point. I don't really know how people with as much trauma as Steven acts, much less people that have powers that make them lose control once they activate. He was completely right about the show creating plot lines and abandoning them. Peridot saw how fucked up Steven's mind was, what happened to that? The Gems heard some of Steven's anger and resentment from Cactus Steven, what happened to that, AND Cactus Steven in general? What happened to the other Lapis, Bluebird, LION'S FUCKING CHEST?! You see? This clearly should've had more than one season. Just twenty episodes aren't enough to tell a story as big and complex as this one.
