Nothing like living off the bike...Fantastic journey OG. Love being on the road, but getting back home is very refreshing. Beautiful colors, especially next to the water. Yes, I must agree, The trip of a lifetime is always the upcoming trip. We are heading back out on July 15th.
I leave the island on July 9th, Montana the first weekend of August, some time in British Columbia and head south after Labour Day. Where are you off to?
Great series! At 67 I've come to peace with the fact I'll never be a biker. I could have bought a BMW with what I spent on bike magazines over the years. My Dad was an X-Ray tech who rarely slept through the night without answering a call, many were bike crashes. Anyway, at retirement we got a small trailer (sorry for holding you up) and have taken at least one extended 3-4 month trip every year. 2023 took us to Atlantic Canada including 3 months in Newfoundland inspired in part by some of your earlier videos. Poor ferry planning kept us on the western coast but we hope to return and see more. Thanks for the inspiration!
A truly awesome series. Really looking forward to the 2023/2024 series. It's mid June and I'm heading up to Nevada to visit and ride with Adventure Glide Jamie. Have another epic ride my friend. Remember, if you're riding, it's an adventure.
Thanks Jim. I appreciate your style of living on the motorcycle. Looking forward to your next trip. Fwiw I enjoy video's with just camp life too, from setup to teardown and everything in between. Ride safe my friend.
Thanks for coming along. Been on the road 57 days so far this year and will have a lot of video to edit this winter. Hopefully a few days in camp videos.
I believe I have seen the majority of your 106 day trip and looking forward to 2024. I'm heading out with my camper and Can Am Spyder on 7-11. Not sure yet how long I'll stay on the road but I'm certain it will be a blast. Heading Northwest, Black Hills, Dakotas, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, and maybe Oregon and Washington. Will probably spend a bit of time in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona while heading back toward Memphis. Have you seen the road trip developed by a cartographer which circles the states and staying in 70 F year round, he also has a spur thru Canada and up to Alaska? Maybe soon. If only I could learn how to shoot the video and edit it.
I leave Newfoundland on July 9th and stick mostly in Canada until Winnipeg and then heading down to the Black Hills, Yellowstone and Montana (first weekend of August) then out to British columbia for a couple of weeks before going down the PCH. Sounds like we might be in the same areas at close to the same time? I think the 70 F tour soounds like a good idea!
I haven't had a chance to wire in the new harness but I have pulled the trailer around the town and out on the highway for a short run. The lower gearing on the Goldwing certainly makes it much smoother from a stop. Did not feel the trailer behind me at all. The ST1300 was good to tow with but the Goldwing will be much better.
Another awesome video Jim! It was really a pleasure to come along through your adventure, thanks for sharing the good and the bad whatever happened, I’ve enjoyed all the episodes and looking forward for what’s coming. Enjoy your 2024 road trip on the Goldwing and ride safe my friend.
Ive enjoyed watching your adventures more than just about anything else I have seen, but now that ive taken my Excel 2 on its maiden voyage, i can really begin to appreciate them in a whole new way. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. Ride safe, and I hope to see many more.
Motorcycle camping with a pop-up is a whole different experience. The MM is allowing me to travel further, longer and in comfort. I couldn't contemplate 2-3 weeks in a tent now. With the tent trailer, 2-3 months seems easy. You'll enjoy the Excel. I plan on making lots more videos. Thanks for coming along.
That stretch of highway between Corner Brook and Deer Lake during October is nothing short of awe-inspiring!!...this was a great series!!...can't wait to see what's coming! Thanks for taking us along...stay safe out there!!😎🤙👍🤙👍🇨🇦
106 days, WOW !!! Congratulations Jim. I can't imagine, yet, what it takes to plan, and then experience an adventure like that. But now that I'm retired, this series has given me the bug to start the planning, and then the key is to get going. There are so many places I've never been to that I'd like to see, and I may not get to see them all, but It will be a fun journey 😁👍👍
I've now got 101 days planned for this year. The big difference is that I am not staying in any one area more than a few days. Planning to the nth degree and planning on being flexible and going with the flow at times. The biggest thing was not putting pressure on myself except for a couple of key dates and letting serendipity lead the way. We'll never see it all but we won't see any of it unless we hit the road to begin with.
Loved the entire series and anxious to see the four corners trip. On a 97 degree (F) day in SW Indiana, it is deliriously nice to see fall colors and imagine the cool air on The Rock. Hang in there Jim, your viewers and fans will be waiting! And I can't imagine all that editing. Not my kind of thing to be sure, but I'm a very good viewer!
I actually like doing the editing Richard, but sometimes I really have too much video lol. I am looking forward to shooting a lot more this summer/fall. I've got to get prepped for hot weather riding.
@@OldGuyonaBike You can be glad you're not going across SW Indiana today. Really high temps and humidity. Yuck. But, fall is not all that far off. Oddly, I always consider June 21st the end of summer as the days start getting shorter..
@@richardmourdock2719 I really start noticing the length of days getting so much shorter by mid-Sept. Good reason for counting on less mileage and earlier setups, supper and bourbon.
An epic trip for sure Jim........Looking forward to the 2023 content.......time is tight for your next adventure I know..........keep the cameras rolling my friend.....
Can’t wait for your next OGOAB series!! In 2020 I bought a 2006 Honda Shadow Aero 750 after not having had a motorcycle for several years and 5 months later I rode it from where I live in Florida to where my parents live in NE Iowa…they knew I had the bike but DIDNT KNOW I WAS COMING UP!! lol. I did almost 1000 miles the first day. Talk about ADRENALINE!! That…as you’ve mentioned…was ONE of my ‘trips of a lifetime’. Stay safe and look forward to more of your’trips of a lifetime’
Thoroughly enjoyed your 106 day adventure(s) Jim. Thank you so very much for sharing. Every single video made me wish I was still able to ride. Boy o boy I sure miss it! Oh yeah… …those “2 mountains” LOL. I might not guess exactly what the locals call them but I will say…they immediately made me think of “my ex wife”. 😂 Stay safe brother and hope you are enjoying that Gold Wing. Road my uncles once was completely blown away by how quiet smooth and stable of a machine it was. The only bike I’ve ever ridden with cruise control and what a unique experience that was.
Good to see you have closed this chapter of your adventure. Looking forward to the next chapter, this time you'll have reverse to help with the mini-mate positioning, however you'll have also gained a couple hundred pounds!
Yes, winter was hard on me. Can barely fit into riding pants... oh, you meant the Goldwing. It's only about 100 lb. heavier. Have discouvered if I pump the rear shocks up it is easier to get on the centre stand. Have only sed reverse once to see how it works. It still might be faster to unhitch and manually maneuver the Mini Mate when I need to back it into somewhere. I can see the reverse being handy though.
@@brianfromnh2596 In 17 years I can probably count the number of times I used the powered windshield on one hand. Except for when washing the bike. I foound a height that worked for me and left it there.,
@@OldGuyonaBike Good thing becuse the assembly the runs the shield up and down is prone to failure and runs $700 US to replace it... Just replaced the one in the 03.
That was awesome Jim enjoyed everyone of the videos and looking forward to seeing your next trip thanks for sharing it with us going up though the park brings back memories of your trip to Newfoundland 2010 fourteen years ago good luck with the new bike take care
I love your adventure, great video amazing scenery and at 64 I am starting some small adventure on my Ryker and maybe I will go visit Labrador soon.. Alain & Yellow
Any chance you would be willing to come to Fryeburg Maine and speak at the 2024 BMW RA rally about your channel. Finished the series and doubt you’ll be back to Maine by Labor Day. Headed to Newfoundland in couple weeks
Good to see you jim I am leaving soon from Oklahoma thur nm,az southern California, ride up thur the mountains to lake tahoe ,glacier np. OR, wy, edmonton ca. Winnipeg, Ontario, Niagara falls canada side then mind home .
Sounds like a great trip. I'll be on the west coast at the end of the summer and hit the mid-west late September. Can hardly wait to get this year started.
Looking forward to the reveal of the new bike. If in the Sault look me up at the kawasaki dealer Iam the parts guy. Free coffee and maybe a donut 🍩 😅😅.
July 17, the dealership is on the main drag heading north to Wawa. Just past the Home Depot and LCBO, the right. Lots of parking for the new rig. I am there till 6 PM. I will make sure we have Tim Bits and a clean cup. 😄 🤣.
Oh Jim!! So good to see a great video!!!!!! Been worried about you!! How is your new ride? Getting it built? Please keep us informed on your schedule. If possible, I plan to hook up with you somewhere!! Do you have an email? God Bless safe ridin rubber down
I've hauled the Mini Mate for over 50,000 km over three seasons. The ST handled it quite well. Gas milage dropped about 10-15%, replaced brake pads more often but was quite happy with how it handled. I put the ST into a ditch last summer and will be riding an older Goldwing this year.
