I lived along the Lincoln Highway in Pennsylvania and now I'm living a couple of blocks off Route 66 in Oklahoma! Coincidentally my favorite hobby is driving! So I'm always in the right locations! Thanks again for the video Steve!!
I really have to see more of the Lincoln Highway. I've only been on the section from California through Nevada into Utah, then a little bit in Wyoming.
If you’re in the East Bay, you can drive on a section of the Lincoln Highway that still has the trademark “L” stamped into an old bridge abutment. From I-580, exit San Ramon Rd/ Foothill Rd. Go South on Foothill Rd. Turn right at the next intersection which is Dublin Canyon Rd. You are now on the Lincoln Highway! Follow that over the hill. It eventually becomes East Castro Valley Blvd. As you approach Castro Valley, you’ll come to Grove Way/Crow Canyon Rd. Turn left onto Grove Way and follow that to Redwood Rd. Turn left. That brings you into Hayward on A Street. The Lincoln Highway had some different alignments depending on where you were headed. I believe that one alignment followed old US 40 right down San Pablo Ave. into Oakland. But the other followed US 50 to Stockton and Tracy, the Altamont Pass and eventually to the route I described.
Funnily enough, this is the last video of yours that's currently out that I've come to watch. I love that it's the "end" (don't worry I'll keep looking for new videos 🙂) Thank you so much for all of these adventures, I look forward to so much more!
@@SidetrackAdventures Of course! you're a great story teller, and your research into things is great. I literally watched every single one of your videos in a span over around two weeks, haha. I'll definitely be suggesting your channel to friends. Keep it up! Thank you again!
Speaking about the lamp posts, they made me think of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition (PPIE) held in San Francisco in 1915 which abounded in ornate buildings, sculptures, fountains, including lamp posts :). An architectural delight. The Legion of Honor is a replica of the French Pavilion at PPIE. You may wish to look at pictures of that fair. It is fascinating. It was also built very fast. The Palace of Fine Arts is another surviving structure, re-built in the sixties-seventies. Thank you for the video!
I've explored the Lincoln Highway (some of it still current US 30; other stretches decommissioned or completely abandoned due to rerouting) in Pennsylvania, so it's cool to see "the other end" of it! Thanks.
Good video. I lived in this neighborhood for many years and the park was part of my running route. You captured it well. Too bad the viewers can’t experience the ever present cool fresh ocean breeze. They will have to visit for the full experience!
Was just there on my bike and couldn't find it. Thanks for posting this! As a highway geek, though, I'm wondering why here? Why didn't the highway end at the Great Hwy and the beach? Why stop a few miles from the ocean?
I could never understand why this highway never seemed to garner the same (or greater) recognition in the historic annals of Americana as does route 66. Seems to me it was a more important road.
If you go to any of the tourist places in SF don't leave your things in plain view in your car or rental car. Criminal trash roam these areas and will smash your windows and take you things in broad daylight in front of everyone. This is any SF Park, Twin Peaks, Alamo Square Golden Gate Park, the wharf, anyplace.
It's pretty sinister looking, when facing the legion of honor walk the path to left that loops around the legion of honor building. You will see it tucked away in a little nook. stands 4 feet tall. a nude woman with snakes. when your video popped up first thought, will he find the hidden statue? I stumbled across it when searching for balls. I wish I had link I could share. If I find it I'll let you know.
