Today, we're diving into a topic that might ruffle some feathers, but it's a conversation worth having-why it's time to move on from the two-bucket wash method. You’ve probably heard of it. Some of you might even swear by it. And, sure, at one point, it was the go-to technique for safely washing cars. But with the advancements we have now, it’s really becoming outdated.
In this video, I’m going to break down why the two-bucket method came about in the first place, why it’s not as foolproof as we once thought, and why products like The Super Soaper are far more effective and safe. By the end of this video, you'll see why it’s time to rethink your car washing routine.

I use rinse less since I work in a lot of commercial locations where they require you to contain waste water. Stopped using the 2 bucket method in 2020. I just use microfiber towels and fold them. Also, a lot of Detailers may disagree with me on this if you’re working for someone who’s not super picky about swirl marks, or if you’re about to do some major paint correction, it’s kind of a waste of time to go through all the trouble of doing a swirl free wash when the objective is just to make everything clean

Two-bucket method with multiple wash mitts or mf towels is the way to go. You just throw the towel in the dirty bucket and grab a new, fresh, and clean towel if contact wash is needed.

If you do a decent pre-wash, with a proper foam , like bilt hamber touchless, there shouldn't be much dirt left on the car to cause damage in the contact wash...

The yanks aren't the brightest though & are about 15-20 years behind the UK when it comes to safe wash technique. They are only now realising that a pre-wash is not shampoo used in a foam lance 😂

I've tried the two bucket method as recommended by several products. I gave up on that S and found the best method in that case was to use towels and not worry about rinsing, but rather, just go through a lot of towels and wash them after. I even found that using about 6 flat out wash pads means you can wash the entire car with traditional soap without ever going back into the bucket, eliminating any extra steps.

I’ve used waterless products for the same reason. It’s the first thing I apply to the paint. Then I do a thorough rinse and the car is 90% clean. I’m willing to try this product though. Not sure if there will be a difference.

I've never been a fan of the two bucket method, have only used it a handful of times. I'm a big proponent of a good prewash routine appropriate for the level of dirt on the vehicle, then finishing with a rinseless contact wash using a rinseless sponge that is specifically designed to release any small amount of encapsulated dirt back into the bucket.

Great video! In the real world, I realized that when I use your Super Soaper and foam the car, let it dwell, then rinse, then foam again and use one bucket and two mitts…I can clean the entire car without scratches! It has worked well for me for each wash!

I never bought into the 2-bucket method. All you are doing is creating two buckets of suds. One bucket with a grit guard is all you need for paint/glass. I agitate the mitt on the grit guard before I apply to paint. I use separate bucket for wheels and tires.
@jarmago7750
@jarmago7750 День назад
Did you even listen to what he said? You are just dunking your mitt into your soapy bucket with bird poop, bug juices, etc. Even you agitate that mitt on the grit guard as hard as you can, you cannot 100% sure that all the dirt are removed.
@Sweet_Jazz
@Sweet_Jazz День назад
@@jarmago7750 There is no such thing as 100% in washing a car. There is always a risk. Bird poop and bug guts never get wiped with a soapy mitt. They get removed with a pre-soak. You do not know my washing process. I stand by my comment 100%.

I use fireball snow foam and i sometimes feel like it does (virtually) nothing. The car looks basically as dirty after washing it off. So this means the next step with the hydro shampoo and mitt has all the contaminant! Never seemed that good of an idea. I agree the first product needs to get rid of the majority of the dirt. What was the first product you sprayed on?
@autodetailingpodcast

The Super Soaper - just used 2oz in the pump sprayer. So the pH is a little higher and it works well as a pre soak
@_Mailman

The question is what makes this any different than the other 400 soaps out there at the same price or cheaper
@autodetailingpodcast
@autodetailingpodcast 13 часов назад
Its ability to clean. Most soaps don’t actually clean. They provide slickness to make it so your wash mitt can’t scratch as easily. This makes it so you don’t have to use a mitt hardly at all.
@_Mailman
@_Mailman 8 часов назад
I get that. But that's pretty much what every non PH neutral wash already does. There is already so many out there. This would have to be way cheaper per wash, or have something none of them have IMO. Seems like the market is already flooded with products that all do the same thing well. There really has been no need for any bucket in a longggg time, foam, rinse, refoam, contact with mitt, rinse, blow off or use a finishing product. Tires and wheels is really just a spray bottle and all clean diluted correctly. Buckets.....why, you got a pressure washer and foam cannon.
@matsudakodo
@matsudakodo 2 часа назад
@@_Mailman even better I think is 1) foam pre-soak with cleaning power, 2) pressure rinse, 3) apply rinseless, 4) run the sponge over the entire car, and 5) dry. Especially for those of us that have to work with plain tap water. It eliminates frantic drying to avoid water spots, the remaining liquid on the car is the drying lubricant, and the rinseless wash in the bucket can easily do 2-3 cars because it won't get that dirty. This is the method I'm moving towards.

I know for a fact the 2 bucket works. I always leave the rinse bucket to sit as I finish up everything else...and when I check it later, there is quite a bit of dirt at the bottom. Now, it could be because I drive a 4x4 vehicle often in dirt, dust and high grass, whereas you see mostly cars that aren't too too bad. You mention saving water, but yet you pre-soak first. I have never filled my buckets with 5 gallons of water, so I'm not sure you're saving much more than me...some, but I wouldn't expect a lot. You also mention you save time by not having to rinse the mitt, but I'm willing to bet with all the times I rinse my mit, it's still less time than it took to pre-soak in this video. Not saying one is better than the other, just stating the 2 bucket can/does work. On another note, I have the IK sprayer, and honestly its a PITA with all of the pumping...especially if I were to cover my entire truck for a pre-soak. Please dont take this as bashing or trolling, that's not my intention.

I hear ya totally, thats the great thing about detailing is everyone has a different style. I no double think that the two buck works and can work well for a lot of people. I 100% agree that pumping that IK sparyer sucks, there are some battery powered ones that are coming out that make it so you dont have to do that any more too. I appreciate your input and feedback!
@matsudakodo
@matsudakodo 2 часа назад
I highly recommend drilling a hole and installing a schrader valve. I no longer have to pump my Marolex Ergo 2000 and one fill can do the entire car. If you spray heavily or do a supersized vehicle you may need to top up the air. Granted, a foamer will use a ton more air and will need to be pumped a few times.
