When Ritchie kicks into gear calling the shots after Sydney says "drive" was so badass.
@brucecardenas9366
@brucecardenas9366 11 месяцев назад
It is but this video didn’t even mention the fact that the reason Sydney runs out of the restaurant and throws up is because the ticket machine didn’t stop printing tickets because there was no more, it stopped printing because there was no more paper in the machine! Hence you can hear the machine still moving in a rhythm trying to print but can’t because there’s no more paper. That’s why she runs out because she’s realized that they didn’t actually get all the orders done.

Richie/Cousin and Marcus single episodes were one of the best. You can see afterwards that each one were transformed into a more refined person/chef prior; especially Richie. He ought to hook up with that female chef at that restaurant he was shadowing. Hats off to Sydney's father Robert Townsend!!! I didn't recognize him until the episode 10 credits at the end; wth? Loved him in Hollywood Shuffle. The family dinner scene was epic. You can see Michael's disease manifesting throughout the 10 mins? that he's talking to Saul?? actor before throwing the fork. When he finally threw the fork, that was hilarious!!! Just egging each other on until the buildup. lol And the lost employee smoking crack in the back was funny as hell. Fak/Matty could easily outcook everyone there but alas he's there for comedic purposes. I wish they had brought his Vietnamese buddy Rang for a cameo as a busboy. Epic!!

I think that was so much what the season was about. Carmen gives his monologue early on about being unable to be happy because he’s always waiting for the other shoe to drop. After season 1, we’re expecting that to happen too, as are the characters who are used to that happening as well. But throughout the whole season, it never happens until the very end (arguably). All the characters improve and become better, happier people. Despite Carmen getting locked in the walk-in, the soft launch is a success. After so much suffering and pain, the characters are allowed to be consistently happy. Until Carmen’s speech in the walk in rejecting happiness- then the shoes come down. Carmy pushes Claire away, and then Richie (who we can see has matured by shouting “I love you” over and over throughout his fight with Carmy). The others have all matured and broken away from the mindset of always waiting for the other shoe to drop because of Carmy’s actions so that he ironically stays the only one trapped. But we do see he is not completely misguided with poor poor Marcus missing those texts about his mom.

I'm gonna be completely honest here: Carmy's reasons for not having a girlfriend for most of his life are pretty much the exact same reason why I struggled with dating. My family isn't as dysfunctional as his but I've seen my fair share of things throughout my life that it honestly scared me off from pursuing any meaningful relationships out of the fear that my family would ultimately be the thing that could push my girlfriend away. Seeing a fictional character deal with the same problems really gave me a lot of perspective on my own life and dating life. I was really rooting for Carmy and Claire and it really broke my heart seeing him self-sabotage so bad, like I legit cried a bit, because I know I've done the exact same thing in so many ways.

Okay, I’m wanting a discussion on whether Sydney is sick perhaps has Lupus like her mother. In the first season there was that cabinet full of medication. And there was that lingering, shot of her shoulder, like the camera wanted us to see something and then the vomiting. I am, not exactly, indifferent to Carmen and Claire making it as a couple, but am adamant that that is not what is going on with Syd and Carmen. I’m not sure why there is always a push to put the male a female lead into a romantic relationship. Syd is NOT crushing on Carmen for a boyfriend. She NEEDS a partner that she can trust to make her vision and goal happen. She is uncomfortable with Claire, because Carmen is dropping the ball on his responsibilities to fit her into his life. I would love Carmen’s arc to include a way to find balance between professional achievement and personal joy, but that is not Syd’s arc. I suspect she might be driven to achieve as she feels her time might be short, not because she wants to sleep with her partner.
@Msvalexvalex
@Msvalexvalex 10 месяцев назад
I hope you're wrong, but you may have something here. It would explain Syd rejected Marcus, maybe it wasn't only because it was at work before a stressful evening, but because she's sick and he's already dealing with a sick mom. Who's cutting onions???

Unpopular opinion- I liked Claire. She was sweet, thoughtful and knew and loved Carmy before he was a famous chef. Claire also has a very demanding job like Carmy, so i feel she could understand his career better than most; but seems writers didn’t go too deep into her character or maybe she’s just a bad actress. Syd and Carmy are great friends/colleagues that share a love and passion for their craft. He respects Syd; they speak so easily through food and she’s becoming like family to him but I don’t see the romance between them. He literally said Claire makes him so happy and he was just too scared to be actually happy. The scene everyone is referring to-when he’s having a panic attack and thinks of Syd and it calms him- I don’t necessarily think it’s Syd but more what Syd says to him in that flashback: “why are you here, you’re the like best chef”. It reminded him that he’s good, actually great and I think that’s what truly calms him. They’re like Don & Peggy from Mad Men. Mentor relationship. Also, Syd wasn’t jealous of Claire she just wanted Carmy to focus and be 100% committed to the restaurant (which is hard to do when you’re in love) because it’s to her and both of their benefit. I think she likes Marcus, always relaxed around him, but doesn’t want to be distracted by love or a relationship. She had a goal and that’s to get a star. Lastly, when Richie sends uncle Jimmy that banana 😢 I cried. Beautiful writing and arc for Tina, Richie and Marcus ❤
@margotk538
@margotk538 10 месяцев назад
Yea I really didn’t get the romantic vibe between Syd and Carmy. I think Syd has high ambitions and are constantly evaluating if Carmy is the right business partner for her. That shows on the episode where she went talking to multiple chefs and mentors when Carmy was out with Claire. She didn’t seem too hard broken that Carmy couldn’t join her but used that opportunity to try new food and meet new people.
@clamourincessant6974
@clamourincessant6974 10 месяцев назад
Agree with everything you said. I would add that the writers made Carm and Sydney a lot alike in their ambition, insecurities, ability or inability to experience joy and happiness, so they getting together would be too much and not work. Both need partners that balances them out, are yangs to their yins, and, so far, Claire and Marcus possess those more sedate, still, appreciate life qualities.
@purpleflows5680
@purpleflows5680 10 месяцев назад
@@clamourincessant6974Marcus screaming at Sydney due to his insecurity around being rejected (by his boss… which she is) made me not want them to end up together. He was so unprofessional and disrespectful towards her that it made me think his crush on her is not based on respect for who she is or what she values. It was disappointing how immature he seemed towards her in the last episode. Sydney doesn’t need all that drama and lack of support.

Agreed. I don't see the sexual chemistry between Sydney and Carmy. Sydney has more chemistry with Marcus. I don't think she was jealous of Claire. It was more like she was having doubts of giving her everything in following Carmy when he's not the most stable person to be leading them. Carmy loves Claire, that's obvious, no notes.

Season 2 is a great progression from the first season. The characters are given more depth, other problems of the restaurant industry are looked at, and the pace was great. One thing that I freaking hated was that they could not open the walk-in door. All you need is a screw driver to undo the latch!!!! That's it. The mechanism is outside!!! This isn't a regular door with the latch bolt inside the door and door frame!!! No need for a saw. Man, that upset me so much.

I watched a lot of behind the scenes restaurants interviews lately. It seems that most of the time the restaurant owner/chef usually ended up marrying someone they worked with before or is from the restaurant industry. The wives can then raise the kids and also help out with the business. Claire as an ER doctor might be tough for both of them to find time developing a relationship with each other.

Hard disagree with this take, I don't think Carmen and Sydney had any kind of romantic connection, I think there was just a power struggle between the shared dream of the restaurant, and Carmen and Claire's relationship. The struggle for Carmen was between ambition and happiness. Sydney and the restaurant are ambition, Claire was happiness. The struggle for Sydney was believing in herself. She was clinging to Carmy so hard because she didn't think she could do it without him which she had to face on opening night. I think her and Marcus and the awkwardness between them is if reflection of what carmy's going through with Claire where she doesn't think she can afford to make room for anyone. Point is I think what bonds Carmen and Sydney is ambition and that's what blocks out Claire, Marcus, and the general happiness of everyone involved. It really was Richie's season though ❤❤

I truly hope that the show doesn't try to force a Sidney/Carmy ship. As soon as there is a boy and a girl on screen in close proximity, it seems like "oh, they must be in love" . Why can't they just be platonic coworker friends who push each other to be better. I don't think the way for either character to be happy is through the other, and the chemistry isn't there, it's friend tension, not love tension. Whereas Sidney and Marcus have love tension

If they're going to find him and Syd a partner that's fine, but please, writers, don't give much time to the show about it. The whole drama omg-she-heard-something-she-shouldn't is tired. Marcus is one of my favourites, to create tension I'd love to see his passion become destructive back to constructive again, and how that'd interact with Syd's personality.

Justice for Pete! Dislike for dislikable characters often spreads to the actor like a disease. A well-meaning simpleton driven by a genuine desire for love and acceptance by an extended family of in-laws incapable of accommodating him, and unwilling to try to meet his needs, creates some of the most frustratingly awkward moments in the series. Having said that, Chris Witaske stood inches away from Jamie Lee Curtiss as the two of them executed one of the most intensely complicated, meaningful, emotional, and tortured scenes I have ever seen in my life. With all of the power and the talent of Jamie Lee Curtiss pouring into Donna who is visibly, and painfully succeeding to contain a nuclear blast of her own chaotic energy for the sake of her children, Chris Witaske did not waste the opportunity of a lifetime. He delivered a stunningly powerful performance that brought, parity, escalation, and balance to the scene while keeping his compassionate, loving and optimistic character true, believable, relatable, and perfect. While Pete failed to negotiate with the trembling volcano of Donna, you could feel it when he gave permission for Donna to turn away. The tears at the table with Sugar were a 100% realistic trauma response. I have to believe that even Jamie Lee Curtiss herself was proud of Chris Witaske's performance in that scene.

I don’t think that’s what it is! I believe that reason Sydney runs out of the restaurant and throws up is because the ticket machine didn’t stop printing tickets! If you look carefully at the scene there was no more paper! it stopped printing because there was no more paper in the machine! Hence you can hear the machine still moving in a rhythm trying to print but can’t because there’s no more paper. That’s why she runs out because she’s realized that they didn’t actually get all the orders but in fact missed some.
@bcarine8908
@bcarine8908 11 месяцев назад
@@brucecardenas9366 That is Not true. There were no more orders. She was hearing phantom sounds. Her anxiety was so elevated that even when they were out of the woods, she couldn't bring herself out of it. If they missed orders, there would be patrons complaining. And since this is a soft launch with mostly friends in attendance, they would say something. Sydney seem to suffer a lot from anxiety, especially after her business tanked. Her fear of failure is felt the most throughout this season. She wants the Michelin star and all the glory of this life. There is a high cost to it. The better you get, the more insecure and anxious you become. Heck, Cami is amazing, and he thinks he is worthless. The final scene juxtaposes the hopeful music that signals new beginnings with the throwing up and smirk from Sydney. But as viewers, we should be taken aback and feel deeply unsettled. This feels inherently dysfunctional. I want to be happy for her, but at the same time, I am very scared for her. People tend to not come out whole on the other side of greatness.

Marcus screaming at Sydney due to his insecurity around being rejected (by his boss… which she is) made me not want them to end up together. He was so unprofessional and disrespectful towards her that it made me think his crush on her is not based on respect for who she is or what she values. It was disappointing how immature he seemed towards her in the last episode. Sydney doesn’t need all that drama and lack of support.

It might not be romantic, but they are definitely setting them up to be more than just mentor/partners. One important scene is when Carmy is having a panic attack, and tried to use his memories of Claire to bring him back. The only thing that actually breaks him out of his panic attack is him thinking of Syd, and he smiles.

That's Marcus' grandmother, not mother. I love the 70's/80's style direction and film treatment this show has. It's so unique. My favorite shot was that terrible date Richie had and his walk after...it was very nostalgic to like, a John Travolta movie or something. Love it! But I don't think there is an ounce of romantic chemistry between Carmy & Syd so I really hope they don't take it there next season. She's better matched with Marcus but I think she's reluctant because of inexperience. I also really hope they don't make her gay...that trope is so played out now. It's an excellent show.

Love triangle ??? There is no love connection between Karmey and Syd. They have never hinted to it. Syds big issue is respecting him as an amazing chef who she respects for his skill but also her realization of how deeply flawed he is as a person and how to balance that with opening a restaurant with him . Karmey needs to learn how to balance his professional and personal life. He was all in on the restaurant in season 1 and then season 2 he starts cutting his responsibilities for the new restaurant to see his new girlfriend . At the end he goes to ignoring every phone call and wants to cut his girlfriend off.
@mmclaurin8035
@mmclaurin8035 10 месяцев назад
While Syd does have some skin in the game, the show constantly tries to portray her as Carmey's partner. She is his employee. She is putting up none of her own money towards the new restaurant. If it doesn't work out, she'll be upset, but then she'll get on with her life. The same cannot be said for Carmey, or even Richie. So when her 'contacts' tell her she has to have a partner she trusts.....no. She SHOULD be worried if the man she works for is 100% focused. And the supposed love triangle seems incredibly forced. There is zero chemistry in between Carmey and Syd. A lot of that comes down to the fact that Syd's actress just isn't very good.

That’s true I forgot about this detail. If I am giving up no getting pay for 6 months and I truly believe in this business, there’s a lot at stake. Syd’s dad also questioned her a lot and she saw a lot of nearby restaurants being shut down throughout the series. She needs Carm to be 100% focus otherwise they are all screwed.
