You missed when hana noticed red marks under tom's neck and wondered if the stories she heard about the torture of prisoners of war was true or not, (for context )which is indeed true because Japanese tortured American soldiers so much even going as far as cutting their body parts and eating them(cannibalism) . Sadao in fact did the right thing by saving tom
