The Pharisees considered Jesus their enemy; they were always looking for ways to trap him. The Herodians considered Jesus their enemy, too. The Pharisees and the Herodians did not see eye to eye on many issues such as the issue of paying taxes to the Romans. But they befriended each other for the common objective of entrapping Jesus. This is a perfect illustration of the maxim "The enemy of my enemy is my friend".
