The Captain was a really good book, I listened to it on Audiobook and cannot wait to listen to sequel.

He did actually talk about the planned length of The Last Horizon series. There will be one book per crew member, so six in total. We have The Captain and The Engineer. We will eventually get (order unknown) books about the Knight, the Commander, the Pilot, and the Sword.

Very much agree. I had a great time with this one. 5 stars. Light, breezy, funny, action-packed. Same as Book 1.

Yes, this is exactly what I did, breaking up Malazan with some of these lighter books. The Engineer is a great pick for that

I was not a fan of Cradle book one, and did not continue with that series. That being said, I have enjoyed the first two books of The Last Horizon series. They are just easy fun books to read through. 100% like Matt said, great to throw in between more heavy series.

I loved his new series. It has the potential to be greater than Cradle, in my opinion, and I'm a huge Cradle fan. I'm glad you liked it!

I’ll check this series out once I finish Cradle. Will does do humour pretty well, Dross in Cradle is pretty amusing.

I should add that while this is a popcorn book, TLH doesn’t fall into the same traps a lot of those kinds of books do. The storytelling and writing are very careful not to do dumb stuff that annoy lots of people like Sarah J Maas or Brandon Sanderson have at times. The writing is flawless, if mostly bare. Love this series! As you said, excellent palate cleansers.

@@Mightyjordy Both of them have multiple YA tendencies. With SJM, the writing is just pretty awful, and it results in some pretty cringey tendencies. With Brandon, his humor (while hitting sometimes) is just generally awful. There are too many things to list in a RU-vid comment for no real beneficial reason. A seasoned reader past 30 will always pick up on it, though. Not ragging on anyone who loves those authors stuff, at all. Read whatever you like. Those authors are plenty successful so they’re doing plenty of things right. They’re just not for me.✌️

I hope it gets a minimum of 6 books to reflect the crew positions and galactic threats, anymore beyond that would be amazing but I feel after 6 books Will would want to return to Cradle, either 100% or maybe even in tandem with other series.

*Sigh* throws notes away on my imprinted lives sci fantasy epic that I thought would be original 😂DONT DO THIS TO ME MATT, I HAVE TOO MANY THINGS ON MY TBR ALREADY! Jokes aside I'll probably pick this up. Really liked cradle but not having a big overarching villain and some of the plot things took away from it for me. Definitely excited to see how Wight has grown! Always down for the fast paced fun book especially between trying to get through a few "high brow" series I'm slogging through

I do personally find that TLH has a much better start of the series than Cradle did. And this series is stated by Will to be 6 books. One book named after each of the crew. The Knight, the Pilot, the Sword, and the Commander are the titles for the rest. Though I have no idea about the order.

Man I don’t know why, but I didn’t like The Captain. Like at all. Probably my least favorite read of 2023. It felt like playing action figures with a 4 year old and he’s constantly yelling and now he has laser eyes! And now he has a mech suit! And it didn’t stop yelling at me with action from the moment it started to the moment it ended. I know for some people this is exactly what they’re looking for, but it was just a total miss for me. And it’s sad, because I really want Will Wight to succeed as an author and I don’t want to dislike his new series. As much as I love Cradle, I don’t want him to be confined to the one series for the rest of his life. I was really hoping to hear someone talk about how this fixed the issues I had from the first book, and it seems like the people who loved the first one loved this one and no one who hated the first is reading this. I guess that makes sense. Anyway, those are just my thoughts as to why it maybe isn’t catching on. Like, I’m sad it’s not because I want success for Will and I’m not going to actively trash anyone who likes it, but I just can’t bring myself to pick up the second one
