What Stephanie does here, is changing the most famous ragtime melodi into real stride piano a la Fats Waller, the Best stride pianist ever! She comes close in her own version, some of the Best I've heard her play! The double tempo is outstanding, the performance is fantastic. And most important: I never get tired of listening to her! She is amazing, no matter what she's playing.
Each section its own variation/vignette separated by little intros. Great idea, with all the bells and whistles! This is more than an homage; it stands alone as a great piece by itself.
That was an absolutely incredible and skillful performance, I loved all the variations in The Entertainer, you really paid tribute to Fat's Waller and all the other greats in Stride Piano History. Very Impressive job, and I wish you all the best, thanks for sharing your talent with the musical world.
I was so lucky, that I heard (and saw) Stephanie live this summer! At The Riverboat Jazzfestival late June 2016 in the Danish town Silkeborg 30 km North of my recidence. With her husband Paolo Alderighi. "I'm a huge fan of Your's Stephanie!" I told her in the pause. "I wonder, if you saw my request of you coming to Denmark to play at Riverboat!? In one of my comments to You on RU-vid. " "Well" she said "Here I am!" And I must say she is Here There And Everywhere: She's by far The Best stride- and Boogie Woogie-pianist in the World of today!!!
Got to meet John a few times and see him perform in local venues many times. His friendship with Eubie Blake brought a lot of good stuff forward. When Stephanie Trick arrived on the scene, I could almost hear John again although she was immediately an exceptional talent in her own right. Have CDs of both and enjoy them equally.
Stephanie Trick and Katica Illenyi the jazz violinist are two astonishing performers that I would not have heard of but for RU-vid. (See Katica Illenyi - The Minor Swing)
Great close up action of her Harlem stride style. This lady has such great talent, amazing ! I watch all her works and too with Palo too. Thank you stephanie for sharing your unique talent with the world. God Bless
I have to put another important thing into my short "review": Stephanie's right hand!: We're all talking of the left and the stride: Fats was also talking of his right, like "It tickles and tickles in my right hand!" And: "Listen to the tickling!" - "It tickles!" It's the first time I've noticed Stephanie tickle better with her right than master Fats. Great!! I love it!
That's an interesting comment. I'm a massive fan of Yuja; I think she's sensational. And then of course we have our Stephanie here. I'm not sure one can compare them. I just feel lucky enough to be able to listen to them both. I don't care about styles or genres or who is "better" than whom. Just enjoy these brilliant people.
I definitely preferred her at that time, when she was a solo artist (or could participate to some bands also), coompared to her duos with her husband. (which are not even duos like the fantastic ones she did with Rossano Sportiello, but some kind of 4 hands piano) where she is wasting her formidable talent !
Traditional ragtime is just a bit boring, especially when you see how i could be played. Although it's not Jazz, ragtime should be just as embellished, and this is simply the best example you could find anywhere of what's possible with a rag.
