I like Dead Rising because is all gritty and serious but then the gameplay the player can do the most wacky shit. Like: "Yes, I will protect my daughter from the zombie and psycho, bu first le me put a f***ing adult tiger in the same room with her".
It's a game that's only as serious as we allow it to be ♡ Want Frank to go thru his game beginning to end 100% serious? Can do Want him in a sundress in nice heels as he wears a ServBot helmet? Can do equally as much That's one part of it's magic after all
Ahh, I waited months for this, pre-ordered it, played the demo to death. Then on release day I skipped college, rushed home and stuck it in my 360. Which immediately red-ringed.
Sgt. Boykin showed better emotion than most characters in recent AAA games. Also, poor guy; the one time his character type is heroic still ends up getting screwed.
Is he really heroic though? Unless I'm misinterpreting he's basically part of one of the same squads the pharmasutical company/US was using to cover up other earlier outbreaks right?
Get the real mega buster or the remake it makes the game much easier 😂, you could also try leveling up to level 50 cuz that makes the game easier as well
Dead Rising 1 set up the ‘Carlito Orphans’ plot line Dead Rising 2 set up the ‘Phenotrans Outbreak Manipulation for Profit’ plot line Dead Rising 3 then concluded both by having the main character be the cure to the zombie plague, and then having Isabela basically be a self-centered, self-proclaimed hero, obligating herself to working with Phenotrans to start the Los Perididos outbreak, find Number 12, use his blood for a cure and clear her own name and separating herself from her deceased brother. But gosh, the character motives for each playable character were all over the place. You had Frank West who simply wanted to cash in a chance at fame by covering the Willamette outbreak and coining it as ‘The Willamette Incident’ and getting his five or so years of fame. Then, Chuck Greene came along and simply just wanted to clear his name from being the one who started the Fortune City outbreak and pinning it on T.K. afterwards. Finally, you have Nick who just wants to leave Los Perididos, but gets roped into the whole thing of his blood being the cure and deciding last minute to be a hero and do some good.
Y'know, 4 being a sequel to Off The Record makes a lot of sense. It's just as absurd as OTR was, including the more fantastical elements. Also, 4 wasn't the only time Capcom locked the true ending of a game behind a paywall. Looking at you, Asura's Wrath.
i had no idea how much lore there was for this series (and it's one of my faves that i've always WANTED to know more about), so seeing this video from you was the unexpected highlight of my week! nearly 2 hours of pure brilliance, thanks for this
@@benverboonen1108 To be fair, She started off as as an accomplice to her brother. However, she joined Frank when she learned the extent of her brother's actions. You can also understand why she would do what she did because years of being accused of being a terrorist along with your brother and being used as a scape goat can take a toll.
@@RedStar2002B How did they ruin Chuck's character? I think that with Isabella you could argue that years of being used as a scapegoat and being linked to the initial outbreak could drive her a bit loony and make her have an 'ends justify the means' mentality.
@@sinner2133 well I can’t really be bothered to reply to them as i never really had a fuck to give. It wasn’t used wrong they just happen to be the one that doesn’t know how to use serving. A pity really.
Correction 19:09, Brad was basically eaten up by the zombies but didnt turn into a zombie. If i remember correctly, Frank takes Brads gun and pops him because brad didnt want to turn
Wait wait wait. Shadow of rome was a precursor to Dead rising. Fuck man i love that game. After spartan total warrior on gamecube that was my second favourite game im a massive history nerd probably even more so when i was young so i was looking for any game i could play as a spartan or roman. So cool to know some other people remember that great game. I never fully finished it being about 7 when i was playing it. Always got stuck on the stealth bits. But man. Seeing you do a vid on it will be awesome
@GamingHarryYT what's your favourite level. For me it's either the first stealth mission as octavian I loved the hitman vibes of changing clothes. Or the gladiatorial missions later on
Can I just say that I love your channel. I often get carried away playing these games and forget to acually pay attention to details in the storyline, especially the finer details. Thanks Harry you rock
Honestly, it's a shame we didn't get a game with a major title allowing the player to play as both. Maybe another Dead rising game can have all three protagonists interact like Devil May Cry 5.
@@camerondalton1495 I feel Dick and Annie should have played bigger roles in the story and gameplay. Them also being playable but option to pick. I also have Dick created the first combo vehicle as he's a truck driver and made his own truck. I have Annie make a combo bike from Dead Rising 2 and make her connection being Katey feel a lot more utilized. I also remove the mob boss thing and the love triangle as they were not needed. I make Diego also play a bigger role in the story and have him and Annie fight about the government stuff as while some has bad people, there's also some good people too. I also go deeper into Ronald's backstory and make him feel a lot more tragic and have only captured Isabela as thinking she caused this and was one of the reasons that zombies were created in the first place.
Finished playing the series a couple of weeks ago as I've played 4, which I didn't know people considered it non canon, and I gotta say it makes sense, Frank it's just a different character in that game it hurts. With its highs and lows this series became so special to me and the first game especially is definitely one of my all time favourites now. I'm so glad they are remaking it cuz I know I'll keep replaying that game over and over forever, I know many people want to see the same treatment for dr2 and while I would definitely play that as well, I actually hope they get to make a new game that can embrace the first one's energy and atmosphere. I don't care where they put it in the timeline or if it has frank, the only important thing is that there's no Hank East
@@stinnetbennet Brother, the age of consent in Palestine is the same as the US. The only difference is they have it where men need to be 18. Why do you think this is a gotcha? 😂
Hey, Harry -- I only ever got to experience Dead Rising 2, unfortunately, and not very much of it. This dive was very welcome, and gave me an appreciation for what I thought was a pretty ridiculous premise when I first played DR2. I loved learning the story of this franchise, and am looking forward to possibly picking up and experiencing these games down the line. Your argument for the canonicity of DR4 is interesting -- I'd love to see a deeper dive into that game specifically down the line.
Thank you for the great video ! Being terrified by zombie when i was young i never played those games, and i remember the advertisement being so centered on the "have fun destroying zombies" aspect that i had no idea the story was actually that interesting (working well with the time mechanic!) and the univers so fleshed out ! It's really cool being able to discover it with you like this !
i'm enclined to agree with you, bro. my thought was what if they took the story of DR1 still then jumped to the frank west version of DR2 - off the record and then, that reality's DR3 is actually DR4 to all of us. an alternate reality is not unheard of. good recap. keep it up.
In Dead Rising: Off The Record there's a version of the Terror is Reality song full and updated version of it. I wish they could update it and make a lot of Dead Rising Official Soundtracks. "Terror Is Reality." Quote from the song itself.
It's so dumb, but the old lady wanting to get to her dog really hit me and I'm struggling to move past it. I hate when they put pets in horror scenarios, even if we don't actually see or know that it's dead. Just sucks.
Y'know. It would be interesting if you can cover thr theories or inconsistencies as to why some titles are not favored as canon by fans. I've been reading the main story of 1-3 back then but never checked the spinoffs/dlc
After hearing about the remaster is being developed I wanted to to revisit the game but in backwards 😅 so from tomorrow i am gonna start from 3 to all the way to 1 and you drop your video 😆 what a timing
Weirdly remember dead rising case zero being one of the first decent 400 Microsoft point games and it was basically a demo for dead rising 2 and it was so cool
If you bought it on Fanatical just be warned DR4 is not Frank's big Package with all the DLC, its just the base game. So if you want the ending for it, got to fork over your money to capcom.
@@wajmgirlthey also removed any mentions of Cliff's Vietnam War backstory too. Which is a shame since he's one of the more interesting Psychopaths in the series.
Great recap! But was there any reason you didn't cover the "Chaos Rising" DLC for DR3? (the one where you play as the gang leader). IIRC not much of consequence happens in it but its a noticeable omission.
I've gotta ask with emphasis on "looks" by why does Frank West have to look like if Larry Lovage from *_Leisure Suite Larry: Magna Come Laude_* if he got a graphical upgrade in the Dead Rising Remaster? You take a photo of Larry and Frank in the Helicopter and the similarity it's oddly alike.. Sure you get the "Frank West 2006" Costume for pre-ordering but they should've just taken that and upscaled it. Nitpick aside I can't wait to jump back into Willamette and Shop and Chop till I Drop. Thank you Harry for providing us with lore in order and maybe as a one-off you can do Bugsnax for the heck of it!
Personally never been as big of a zombie fan as a lot of other people, even as a kid. This isn’t to say I didn’t like them, because I did, I simply wasn’t THAT into them, so I didn’t really play that much Dead Rising back in the day. Even then, I still have fond memories of it because it successfully managed to be scary (for a kid) what with all the undead running around, and hilarious at the same time. That was, I think, the first moment I started realizing comedy and horror can go hand in hand incredibly well, even though they represent almost opposite emotions
GamingHarry did it again! Another Story So Far....vid! What game are you gonna do next? Can it be Dishonored? Edit: Also i like how you're showing the Psychos in DR2 some highlight. And ive noticed that you didnt pointed out the most helpful shortcut in the game, but at least you've shown who you're gonna need to save to get it though
Dead Rising 4, command and conquer 4 & the 3rd Birthday for Parasite Eve- are so incongruent to their established narratives that being honest I wish they’d all just get binned. Killing franchise and the narrative so badly it takes a remaster to bring life back to a franchise.
If someone made a game mode on dead rising that was like the infinite mode but had somewhat of a base building like state of decay i think this franchise could honestly sell millions
Yeah, Idk if I'd save everyone in the game and from what I gathered, saving survivors doesn't really affect good and bad endings and especially in the first game, it just makes the safe space over crowded 🤷🏼♀️ honestly, if this was irl, I'd be the antagonist yelling at the protagonist at how impractical saving everyone is and how zombies can't be cured! 😂
I really had a feeling that Annie was Katey on reading the comics and I was right when I played the Dead Rising 3 xD.. (At that time I was confuse because I havent played the case west...) I love this series because I spend a lot of time killing all the zombies not knowing they spawn back always😂 (not dead rising 4, I only loved the 1 to 3 ones)
This was the first game me and my friend played on his 360 when he got it. And we set it up vertically and fired it up and heard the most awful grinding noise only to realize well these probably shouldn’t be set up vertically
This was a great video however I would recommend checking out a video called "Dead Rising 4 - What Happun?" by Matt McMuscles he covers how the reason DR4 was so bad was not Vancouver but rather Capcom Japan unwillingness to allow the team to have creative freedom with the Dead Rising games. It is hard to make a good game when you dont have a passion for the project and are being forced to turn something out for the shareholders.
Think it was a bit of both to be honest. However, Japan bought Bluepoint for the purpose of making more Dead Rising games. Then they wanted to go off and start making other projects, which ended up wasting $80m (apparently). Problem is that Vancouver took a few too many creative liberties with DR4, to the point that it became unrecognisable to the fanbase. The lack of communication from Capcom Vancouver with Capcom Japan apparently didn’t help matters either.
