History Dose, I'm a history student (bachelors) and a big fan of your work. Do you have any advice regarding your writting style? Would be much appreciated
as good as the videos are, how would pay for them if they were in a streaming service like maggellan tv or any of those, fact is: not many people. So this is a ood way to share your work with the public, plus there's ad revenue in YT
@@fedecano7362 difference is RU-vid isn't fact checked or credible especially when it comes to history or science. That being said I absolutely believe this channel to be document history correctly. However he could also make up 60% and most of us would be no smarter
Wealth, fame, power. Gold Roger, the King of the Pirates, attained everything this world has to offer. And so, many men head for the Grand Line to find the great treasure he left behind, the One Piece. The world has truly entered a Great Pirate Era!
YO! YAI-YO-YAI-YO! DREAMING DON'T GIVE IT UP LUFFY DREAMING DON'T GIVE IT UP ZORO DREAMING DON'T GIVE IT UP NAMI DREAMING DON'T GIVE IT UP! GIVE IT UP! GIVE IT UP! OH!
I work in a hot warehouse in Houston Texas. While my coworkers are listening to heavy metal rock music and Southern based rap, I am pushing a broom around listening to Pirate History and am in my own little world. Great work on this video!
My favorite old pirate shanty: "YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A CAR" "YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A HANDBAG" "YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A TELEVISION" "YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A MOVIE" "DOWNLOADING" "PIRATED" "FILMS" "IS STEALING" "STEALING" "IS" "AGAINST" "THE "LAW" "PIRACY. IT'S A CRIME"
You wouldn't steal a handbag. You wouldn't steal a car. You wouldn't steal a baby. You wouldn't shoot a policeman, and then steal his helmet. You wouldn't go to the toilet in his helmet. And then send it to the policeman's grieving widow...And then steal it again! Downloading films is stealing. If you do it, you will face the consequences. *FBI team member bursts in behind the girl downloading the film and shoots her* 0.o
Great video. It has to be said that despite its not being historically accurate, Black Sails is a wonderful show about piracy. The blend of historical and fictional characters gives it quite the plethora of colorful characters, and the cast knocks them all out of the park.
Um the ONLY accurate account is of few of those who actually lived then, like different camera angles, those from the center of the action. EVERYTHING else is someone's version and speculations
To the the commenters that can't read correctly: he's as clear as day. In his words: "not historically accurate", "blend of historical and fictional CHARACTERS"... 🙄Room temp IQ's pervade YT. @urius Tosh: thanks for the rec.; looking forward to checking it out🏴☠
Mesmerizing video - an encyclopedia of pirate history and mythology, wonderfully regaled as moments of bloody, Impossibly gorgeous and engaging pirate lore. A welcoming connection with the pirate ethos beginning to give credit due for their incredible affect in shaping history (ex: Sea Peoples/Bronze Age Collapse; Sea Dogs/defeat of the Spanish Empire).
man you have no idea how happy it makes me to hear all the signs that you guy actually know what you are talking about. a lot of history channels on youtube just find the first blog post about the topic they are making a video about and go with that, its often easy to see their information is skin deep. So when i hear you refrence the more historically accurate names, events, etc. its brings me no end of joy to know someone out here cares about making real historical content.
Thank you for the content guys. For real. A lot of people love learning about history but don't have the drive to hit first hand sources like this on their own. Yall are doing a good thing and keeping it entertaining.
@@dcyfa2273 I was referring to the references they use for their content. Those first hand accounts. You bored dude? Just lookin for a way to sound smarter than someone or something? Yikes.
This was absolutely gripping and expertly delivered. Already subscribed, so I stoop to shameless admiration and thanks for your creations on this channel. Yar, My Matey 🏴☠
I LOVE this as a resource for my middle school students. YOU MADE PRIMARY SOURCES FUN FOR KIDS!! or at the very least... funner. Some of these have been great for use in my classroom. Thank you so much for making these!!
@@adamburke1088 I thought presenting them in an interesting way would be. Aside from this not beeing a primary source ('Voices of the past' would offer that). Sorry for beeing a dick, I just have that history teacher in my mind that had us watch Gladiator because romans and thought her job was done.
@@connycontainer9459 Yeah, that just sounds like they didn't give half a damn to tell factual history, and instead opted for a 1-2 hr easy "solution". I mean I love Gladiator, but it should never be taken seriously as factual history.
I live in The Bahamas and we learned a lot about the age of piracy of the New World in history class. Watching this brought back a lot of memories. Found myself calling out names during the video before they were announced just from hearing a small description lol. Great work. P.S.: Gonna boot up AC: Black Flag now just to do some pirating.🤣
I just love this channel. Been searching for some coherent and complete documentary on piracy for two years at least. Just decided to look up something related to piracy and saw that video (although I've been subscribed to your channel for long time). I got so hyped and went like how come I haven't seen that documentary before. Then looked at the publication date of 2 months ago. Thanks a lot for covering this topic! I can really vouch for the fact that that's the best documentary about piracy out there
Great video, I quite enjoy this long-form version you’ve done. I find myself getting lost sometimes with the POV voices you do, but this had my attention all the way through
This presentation is an experience richer & emotional than I have known. You Sir are gifted. I wish you more power & reward for you outstanding efforts..
I love pirate history…. But damn were they scumbags. This was a really great documentary you put together. I enjoyed all of it. I love how people can watch a whole video about how pirates were notorious for raping, pillaging, robbing, and slaving and still be like “man I wish I was a pirate”
Most pirates were poor ppl who choose to live a life of danger on the high seas, instead of living in shit like their poor peasent forefathers, they were brave ambitious men at heart and ppl respect that, they were enormous risk takers, who were ruthless in nature, predatory in mindset and ferocious in combat, basically an elite calibre of outlaw whose domain was the unforgiving sea These guys operated and lived in a level of freedom unthinkable nowadays, like Somalia on steroids
This is my problem with people who glorify vikings too. Do these people find what Russians are doing in Ukraine right now cool too? I understand that vikings had cool aesthetics but that's about it (and let's be real, even the aesthetics probably aren't nowhere near as cool as movies make them look like. Also, nobody will be playing Heilung in the background while you're commiting war crimes).
Julius Caesar's mother: "Sniff. My poor little Julius. Who knows what horrors he is going through now because of those dirty pirates..." *Meanwhile* Drunken Caesar and the Pirates: 🎵"WAY HAY AND UP SHE RISES. WAY HAY AND UP SHE RISES. WAY HAY AND UP SHE RISES. EARLY IN THE MORNING!"🎵
@@digitalbrentableno, there's a difference between honestly trying to understand something and forcing the evidence into a predetermined narrative. You probably just want an excuse to be dishonest.
I live in la Hispaniola, it is sad and a shame that piracy is rarely mentioned. But there an event called "Desvastaciones de Osorio", or just Devastation of Osorio, where the spanish basically forced everyone to move away from north, to ruin the smuggling/trading with the buccaneers
So glad RU-vid is finally recommending great history channels. Only took google spying on me throughout community college to learn my interests… One thing I really like about this video, and I don’t know if it was intentional, is that it sort of parallels the history portrayed in many of the Assassin’s Creed games.
I really love your long videos like this one or the one about Rome's exploration, it's always very interesting and like a chill and fascinating video to watch while doing something else at the same time
2:58 i went on an entire journey to find this union jack, and while i cannot send links i finally found it under the "irregular white ensign variant" of the british white squadron. very cool video and unique choice for a flag graphic! i had fun looking for it
Love it! My question to you seeing as you clearly love this subject and have studied it both east and west. How do you think geography influenced piracy in the west? Vs the eastern tradition.
I have just finished watching Black Sails series, and am currently reading Treasure Island. The recomendation for this video came at a perfect time. Great documentary!
Why is it that when pirates are the the subject Dutch pirates barely get a mention. The Sea Beggars who kept the Dutch Revolt alive, Piet Hein who is the only person ever to capture the Spanish treasure fleet, The Dutch Barbary pirates who ruled the Moroccon Republic of Salé and various famous Dutch buccanneers like Roche the Braziliano deserve some attention in a documentary like this
Camels were introduced to Egypt around 700BC through the Assyrian invasions and occupations. There were no Bronze Age camels in Egypt of any significant number.
I think you missed a great chance to mention about Hyruddin or better known as Barbarossa to the Europeans. Man who controlled almost all of Mediterranean, the King of Algeria, Captain that rivalled even the greats like Sulaiman the Magnificent and King Philip the second of Spain, Fleet Admirals for the Ottoman that challenged the coalition of Spain, France and Italy and came down at the champion. Barbarossa is a legend.
