Watched this on my iPhone 13 mini and realized this is in HDR, holy moly it looks fantastic! Is there anything special you need to do to upload to RU-vid in HDR?
For all it's faults, America is SO unimaginably beautiful and worth cherishing. Sights like these always remind me of that. Thanks for sharing with us!
Cherish the freedom we have to enjoy it. Protecting the environment is nothing if you can't use it. Ask anyone the lived in the Soviet Union......TRUMP2024
@@gimilner should be obvious. When the sentence starts off with “for all her faults”. Can you imaging saying that about loved one. It doesn’t matter what you say after that phrase, it’s not a compliment. Best country in the world. 🇺🇸.
Watching from the Blue Mountains in Australia. What an amazing video !!! I'm 48 and stuck in a job that i hate, also live in a place i have no time for. Huge mortgage here in Sydney so unfortunately im stuck. I can only dream of the serenity you would find on a hike like this. So happy you made it all the way !!! My heart aches that i will never get to experience this
So glad you liked the video. I was in a similar situation to you a few years before I made it to the trail. Don’t give up hope that it can happen for you!
OMG, so many teary eyes in the comments........it's not just me. Right when you touched the post they started flowing. Best PCT video ever and best 5 minute video ever.....Thanks
I’m so glad you enjoyed my video, and really appreciate you taking the time to let me know it. This will definitely be one of my favorite comments ever 😁. Thank you!
Thanks so much for your video. In my life I'll never have the opportunity to hike this trail (I'm from Malaysia), but your video did make me feel I'm there and enjoyed the sceneries.
Thanks so much for sharing your journey of the PCT in this great video. The views are truly inspiring. While you were completing your PCT I was completing my 'Virtual' PCT half a world away here on the Isle of Wight. I finished in early January and your Journey and videos helped inspire me to complete mine, thanks so much Craig! Like other comments below I hope you do the CDT in due course as I love the way you bring the Journey that is a long distance trail to life!
Absolutely stunning! When I saw your link in one of the groups, I thought wow how will he break it down into five minutes. But you did a masterful job! I’m just a couple years away from a lifelong dream I’ve had since I was 11 years old.
Did u see Andrea Bocelli ride the trail on horseback and stopping along the way to sing? Your video reminds me of it… and there is much joy and peace if we go towards it and take the step …
Congrats Craig and thank you for this stunning little summary! Served as a good reminder to catch up on the more recent chapters asap. Gotta ask, are you thinking CDT-ish thoughts already? 🤔 😄
@@craig.m.spielberg I figured as much! After the AT and Camino, somehow knew you would end up going for the triple. Your journey has been very inspiring!
I saw you hearted a comment of mine from 5 years ago 😃. Glad you did I had not seen your PCT hike, friend. Great video. Your A.T. videos helped us in 2019 when we hit the trail. Thanks for sharing.
I was cleaning up old comments and didn’t think anyone would be notified, but I’m so glad you were and that you checked out what I was up to. So nice to know that my AT videos were helpful to you!
My wife and I were in Kennedy Meadows a couple years ago dirt, bike riding, and we were at the main store having lunch and met many through hikers. One young lady we met was doing the Pacific Trail in four or five different stents because she only had a month off every year. She asked if we were headed down the hill anytime soon and we said yes the next day. She wondered if we could give her a ride to the nearest town Where she would try to find some more transportation. We asked her where she was ultimately headed and she said that train station in Bakersfield and we said no problem. We will take you there. It was truly our pleasure to drive her there because we got all the details of the three years she had spent hiking the trail. I’m 68 now but someday I plan on doing that hike. The last two years of my life I’ve been training and racing in triathlon so I think I’m close to being ready.
You and your wife are Trail Angels for giving that woman a ride. That beautiful thing you did for her will come back to you when you’re out there and need a ride. I’m very excited for you! I wish I could do it again for the first time. Sounds like you’re physically ready already. And you’re probably pretty there mentally, too. If you haven’t followed anyone’s entire RU-vid journey, I highly recommend it. They can be somewhat slow and sometimes boring, but watching them is one of the best ways to prepare. If there are any questions you have as you prepare, please don’t hesitate to ask me!
That is fucking amazing, I'd love to do this one day, just keep walking forward and enjoying the beauty of nature. How long did it take to cross this trail?
We loved watching all chapters of your journey! Danielle sent pictures along the way but to actually see what you, Spot, Roo, Zip and so many others accomplished was amazing! Thank you for letting go on the journey with you virtually!
It's so nice to hear that -- thank you for letting me know! The best part about the entire trip were the lifelong friendships I made, and Danielle is way at the top of that list!
Loving your Summary Videos of the AT and PCT. I've always wanted to hike the trail, but now due to age and health, it would be out of the question. So I been watching others'. You mentioned crossing paths with multiple bears... how close was the one in this video? Seemed to be too close for comfort. Thanks again for taking the extra time of filming your treks. And best wishes on the CDT, if/when you decide to travel that path.
Thanks Jay! The bear in this video was only about 25feet away. It was really stupid of me to get that close, but at the time all I was thinking about was getting a great video - dumb of me.
I love your videos. You are a born story tellers and cinematographer. This shows what it was like hiking the PCT in 2021. Dry in the south but if I remember you skipped north and had to finish SOBO to do the Sierra after ? I also remember this was a year of devastating wildfires and lots of closures on the PCT and the CDT. I'll have to rewatch this 4 or 5 times to get my Spielberg fix, ha ha ! I would love to see a longer 1/2 hour version that includes more of your experience. When I have time I'll go back and watch the whole hike from the start. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks Deborah! I did have to skip a few hundred miles in NorCal because of the Dixie Fire closures, but I did hike north the whole time. Great suggestion about a half hour version - I may just do that!
I hope you enjoy this series, too. It’s different than my AT vlog, but once you get used to the shift with the music, I think you’ll like it. The first few episodes are a little rough as I was just getting back into the flow of filming and editing, but they improve so I hope you’ll have the patience. Thanks again for your encouraging words! As you prepare for your AT thru hike, please feel free to ask me anything if you think I can help.
@@craig.m.spielbergI'm sure it will be just as compelling as the AT videos. I can already see the scenery is jaw dropping! Maybe a little intimidating too, being used to the rolling green eastern mountains!
Outstanding, Craig! Thanks for sharing this beautiful compilation with us. ... But, no smoke or rain? Some things are better to forget. 😉... What's next? A book? Another part of the Camino, perhaps? Whatever it is, please keep taking us all along.
It was pleasure to ee so spectacular short video film about the long trail and hiking achievment! I wonder , what kind of defense had been prepared for case of a grizzly attack ? Cingratulations and Greetings from Poland.
Thank you for advice of the bear spray. In 1995 I was in Vancouver . I heard about tragic attack of grizzly which killed two persons , mother and his son when they were wandering on the trail. The grandson could escape , and looked for help. May be thay did not carried a bear spray. The other sad story in1995 was about lonely bicyclist from Vancouver Island ,who tried run away when he met cuguar. An Pole from Vancouver told me that he had bought licence to hunt the bears and then with friend were huntig in rocky undergrowhted terrain .High on the rock he catched a glimpse of grizzly. He was wide of the mark but he shot , and the bear falled down among high brushwood . When he came closer to the animal , appeared another bear which lunged forward in his direction. The Pole said that he was lucky because his gun had been loaded, and he managed to hit his second mark. Happy New Year 2024 for all , especially all hikers on trails !!!
That made me think of my brother I lost in 2022. Nature was his whole person. I got so emotional when you crossed the border to Canada. Thanks, what a great video.
0:28 & 0:55 & ...how you do that distance shot of yourself , hiking and the camera zooms...that is cool 1:01 & 2:30 & 2:39 & .. love them wild critter & animal shots....awesome 1:23 ...The Sierra reminds me of Scenery from Starwars...lol
I would setup the phone (camera) on a mini tripod, shoot the walk by and then do a zoom out in the editing software. It does make the quality of the image a little grainy on the tight zoom, but I liked the way it gives a sense of size for the landscapes.
Awesome video! Can I ask how many miles daily you had to put on?... do you have to rest a day or two off?... how heavy were you traveling?....sorry for the many questions! 😁
No problem -- happy to answer questions, although I'm sometimes slow with responses. I averaged between 20-30 miles a day, usually toward to top end of that in Oregon and Washington. Every 3-5 days I would get off trail to resupply and, often, sleep in town at a hostel or hotel. My base weight was around 13lbs, and with a 4 day supply of food that easily could get to over 25lbs (with water, too).
You made my day! There’s nothing more rewarding than hearing that the videos are being watched again. You and Tom have been so supportive and encouraging for so many years, and I’m very grateful. I hope all is well with you, and that you have a wonderful summer!
Hey Journey! So great to see your name pop up in the comments. Glad you found and enjoyed the video. Hope all is well with you in NC, and hope to see you on a trail in the future
Is this 2016 AT Pony? Clay Bonnyman Evans? Now that I'm seeing your name, I remember reading in one of your articles on The Trek (I read them all!) or somewhere else that you were hiking the PCT, but I totally forgot until seeing your name. I'm so sorry I didn't get to meet you in person on this trail, either (hopefully on the CDT, as it looks like we're on the same schedule 😂). August 7 -- nice! So you beat all of the fires -- I'm jealous. Are you hiking anything this year? I'm doing the AZT with a bunch of friends from the PCT at the end of March, then maybe -- hopefully! -- CDT in 2023.
@@craig.m.spielberg The very same Pony! AZT sounds fun; I'll be in the neighborhood, starting NM section of CDT April 19. While I'd love to thru the CDT, my wife and I have realized that being away that long is a little too much at our age, so sectioning it state by state.
Hey, could you please tell me where exactly you got the awesome views onto the volcano at 4:30? Very nice video and congrats for finishing this trail, amazing!!!
Hello Craig! I just want to say that I'm hiking the pct right now and it has been brutal so far, the heat, I almost got a heat stroke, and the long water carries it is heavy! One night a mountain lion was circling outside my tent all night and I was so terrified but I had other tents near me, I clapped my hands and it ran off and I went to the tent nearby and said hey I have a mountain lion outside my tent what shall I do? They said if you have everything inside your tent you should be fine. So I guess my trail name now is Mountain lion... everybody knows me now that swedish girl... I just want to tell you one thing: I can't even remember the last time I was this happy!
Wow - it sounds like you’ve been through some difficult trials already, especially with the cougar circling your tent. That happened to me one night when I was alone in Oregon, so I know how scary it can be. The great news is that you’ve experienced some of the most frightening scenarios already so you know your strength and can do this! I’m delighted by your final statement- that’s what it’s all about! Keep pushing on, having an amazing experience, and keep me posted. I wishing you all the best, Spielberg PS: love the trail name!
@@craig.m.spielberg Hi there, I think I have met all my worst fears in my hike so far, I ran out of food and water one time, I had to ask another hiker for food, I nearly stepped on a rattlesnake, o I screamed, I am still terrifying every night that I will have another mountain lion encounter outside my tent at night, so I have not cowboy camping yet, in Big bear I had my first drink vodka for a month and I went sick, I had been drinking from every stream filtering and I have never been sick but I couldn't handle the vodka... but the worst so far was one morning I woke up to a bad snowstorm and it was freezing cold and so much snow I couldn't see the trail, I thought I should die up there but I could navigate to a road thanks guthook app! and I hitched and a guy saved my life, I just wanted to cry it was so bad... But I am still here and now I am entering mojave desert, and I look forward to it! I have never been stronger in my life. I have a trail family we meet everywhere on trail and it is so nice! Every hiker is so nice and friendly and we are a big family and it helps a lot. You know that. Pct is so beautiful, so much to look at every day. I say hi to every lizard I meet. I love it!
Hah! Spielberg’s back. Nice to see you got out to the PCT. Judging by the technological leap between those seven years for phone camera filming, I expect your thru hike of New Zealand’s Te Araroa track to be a phone that can fly around you like a drone. Hope you’re enjoying the whole new set of vivid memories and stories as you rest your feet again.
Byron!!! So great to see your name pop up in the comments! Hope all is well in NZ and that you’re still getting out and hiking. You’re right about the tech - I can’t believe some of the shots I got with my phone. I’m hoping to get over there in the next few years to hike Te Araroa soon after I complete the CDT 🙏. In the meantime, if you’re looking for another thru hike, the PCT is amazing!
Life Alert!!!! So sorry I haven’t responded back sooner - I don’t check this comments enough. I hope all is well with you and the whole family. I’m back in trail, this time on the CDT - hoping to start posting videos in a couple of weeks. Hope you’re getting out to hike this summer and please give my best to Rogue!
@@craig.m.spielberg Nice…..going for a triple crown. Awesome! Can’t wait for the videos. We’re doing well. Rogue says, “hey”. I’m still section hiking, I’m up in Virginia now.
@@craig.m.spielberg I would really like to see a video like this, about The Great Trail/Trans Canada Grail, I know its a VERY long trail but I cant find any good videos about it and Im very confident that you could make a great video about it!😁
Hi Craig! How are you? This Iis raul forn barcelona. We did one part of the Camino de Santiago together in 2018. I’m still waiting for your videos of el camino hahahah!! Regards from barcelona!
Hey Raul!!! So great to see your name in my comments! All is will here in NYC - I hope all is well with you, too. I haven’t forgotten about the Camino footage and still hope to do something with it - hopefully it won’t take many more years 🙈🤣. Hope you have a great remainder of the summer!
