FANTASTIC.......I did the exact adventure in June 2007 on a 100+ degree day. I needed at least another liter of water so I was dragging by the time I got back to the car. So glad you stuck with it to the Confluence. Buckskin Gulch is 15, impossible to turn around, miles. I have made at least 6 trips in from the northern trailhead. Two specific memories.....seeing that monster of a rock slab that slid into the river (you have it in the video) and marveling at the confluence and listening to a raven flying/swooshing back and forth reverberating off the walls.

I did that same hike a few years ago. When I got to Buckskin I went right and hiked a couple of miles to a big rock fall. If you go left at the confluence, Paria Canyon goes all the way to Lees Ferry. On my next trip out I want to hike Buckskin starting at the Wire Pass Trailhead. You should do some videos in the Escalante-Grand Staircase National Monument. It has more slot canyons than anyplace else on earth.

Another great video! I visited this slot canyon a little earlier on in June this year on a trip out west. Thing is, we were supposed to go to the Grand Canyon that day, but the wildfire started two days prior, so we ended up doing this instead (starting from the opposite direction). It is such a cool area. The smoke from the fire was dimming the sun and really made it a very surreal setting. Something I will never forget. Thank you for refreshing those memories.

Awesome that you did a video there. I hiked in there alone in October 1995 (I left right for Arizona after for the OJ trial). There were no permits in those days and just maybe one or two signs at the parking lot which if I remember they just did that parking lot about that time. Very few people, I did come across more water back then and it was cold. Wonderful and unforgettable place to go.

I want there to be that same awe inspiring experience mixed with some fun stuff to goof off with. I was in Southern Utah a few weeks ago, a very beautiful place. We unfortunately had some rain and snow which made it difficult to travel on the dirt roads leading to the slot canyons. The BLM visitor center was advising no driving on most of the dirt roads. We tried anway, and got stuck in some deep sand and had to get towed out. We didn't get to hike the slot canyon like we were hoping, but we got to see lots of other great scenery such as the Grand Canyon North rim, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Pink Coral Sand Dunes, lake Powell, Glen Canyon Dam, and Horseshoe Bend. Lots of things to see in the area, next time I want to see a slot canyon

Beautiful scenery. Nice you made it to the confluence, Buckskin Gulch. The map looks like a 9mi hike to Buckskin Gulch, but then it's another 23 miles past Buckskin if you want to make it all the way to the Colorado river where water is flowing year round. All of that canyon terrain looked ridable on a mountain bike. Maybe need to walk the bike in the soft stuff a little, but mostly looks ridable with fat tires. Do they allow bicycles in the canyon? Did you see "no mountain bike" signs?

Wow Randy, that’s for taking us along on your journey. What a beautiful area, especially once you made it to the confluence with those towering canyon walls. Just plain spectacular! I don’t have much to add on this one. It’s an area I know about and have done some initial research, but it’s an area that I haven’t ventured. A definite add to my ever-growing list of places to explore. Did you try for Coyote Buttes North (The Wave) permits while you were in the area? I have tried almost every month for over three years with the online lottery to no avail. I know the odds are greatly increased for the in-person lottery . Guess a multi-day vacation stop in this area may be in-store for the future and hope for the best.

@@AmericasParks yeah that online lottery is astoundingly competitive. Back when the lottery was run through the BLM website you could see how many entries were selected for a given day. Even during low-season and mid-week there was still 300-400 entries per day. During peak season, it could be several thousand entries per day. So your odds are low to begin with for the online lottery but they are lowered even further by the hard quota of 10 individuals. For all I know my entry could have been selected but my group size went over the 10 person limit and they had to move onto the next winner. If I never win it won’t be for lack of trying.

Been looking forward to seeing more of this trip Randy. Did not disappoint. Is this part of grand staircase? I have that on the radar next year hopefully
@AmericasParks

I have seen it advertised in Staircase, but most signs said Vermillion. Really easy to reach in any kind of automobile. Buckskin was the best part. Check out "Wire Pass" too.

Cool brother, dig the drone shots too! I think a Mavic Mini should be in your future, light portable! That would be sooo sweet for a spot like that! Are bikes legal there? BLM yea . . .would make it so much easier together super deep. . . if it's dry anyway . . .

Hey Karl! Yeah, a few others have asked about bikes too. Didn't see anything that forbid them, although when that river is running the repeated crossed would make one less feasible. Just back on YT - got a notification for your upload. Hope to watch it tonight!

@AmericasParks

Thanks so much! No, we got to the trailhead in our midsize rental car. It's a small rock/dirt road - short and fine for any automobile.

Four points of entry: Wire Pass, White House, Buckskin Gulch, and Lees Ferry trailheads. We did White House. No permit was necessary back in 2020.

15 Miles, how much water did you bring
@AmericasParks

Can't remember, but I remember we consumed all our water. A general (and generous) rule of thumb when hiking in the desert is a liter for every hour of hiking. We were probably were out for 6-7 hours.
