I used to live in a house near some active tracks and i loved watching the trains go by with all their different artwork. To me graffiti is the purest form of art in the modern day. There's no money it, and barely any recognition. It's actually dangerous to be recognized as an artist. That makes the main reason behind doing graffiti nothing more than the desire and impulse to create something beautiful and send it out into the world.

I always think of it like this: Graffiti is to Calligraphy, what Rap is to Poetry. It's not that different. But it's more raw IMO. (Great vid!)

Ngi you hit me hard man, someone who's dealt with depression, suicide my entire life this art always been apart who I'm till this day is been there for me at my worst. Art in general always been apart my life but when came to graffiti it was always bitter sweet relationship yet again I've met some most down earth writers made really good friends over the years didn't matter what state there from or other side of the world,the brother hood & sister hood and the bond sharing same love different styles, backgrounds all walks of life since then I've kinda let it take the back seat in my life went down different paths with my art but still remains within me always has so it never really left apart who I'm.

I always love looking at the colourful, creative and witty graffiti around me living in an otherwise drab urban centre. I haven't done it much or regularly, but when I have it's been electric. When I do it, it's because I wanna give back and contribute to make other's commutes more interesting, as well as for the fun of it. That feeling that the whole environment around you is a canvas to be doodled on will never *not* be thrilling to me.

You nailed it man. Graff is therapy for most writers and an addiction. From my experience, people who do it as a hobby often grow out of it. People who are hardcore writers usually have mental health issues. Most of them have serious trauma, substance abuse or addiction, were abused as children, come from broken homes, have neurological issues like ADHD, anxiety disorder or/and depression. My psychiatrist thinks I have an obsession with it as a form of escapism. People who risk jail and potentially prison for writing on shit are not normal people. That's why violence, addiction, beef, and ego's are so ingrained in graffiti. It's a reflection of the people who perform it. It's a huge source of therapy for me, and I find it very relaxing even though it should cause me anxiety. Thanks for posting this. I really appreciate this video way more than usual. I hope youngsters see this and learn something from it. Either just do it for fun, only do it as a hobby, or realize it's therapeutic value and don't let the addiction consume you. Your statement about "wall permission" means the world to me. I am not good at keeping a secret. I tell everyone about my street art even though I haven't done much. I send anonymous letters to building owners before I do my work. While not enough to get me to change the way I do things, I did feel the imagined judgment of a faceless community. What started as a random search on tagging has become an exploration in the history, culture, people, and art of it all. Your videos have been such a cool resource both in developing my understanding and style. I've even started seeing and appreciating all the tags and graffiti around the places I walk and drive, it's really cool. Thank you for the killer content!

I started and still do it's as a relief, for a long time I didn't want to live. I didn't see a point, but by graffiti it made me get out of my house and start doing something fun. It also was a coping mechanism, knowing that if I die my name wil be known and spread across my city. I still have that reason and I will definitely not be stopping anytime soon.

I've been on a self-reflection journey this past year and I've been seeing so many things like this leading up to people's mental health. It's just insane to me that there's stuff like this happening that's deemed illegal can be linked to people's past or experiences that would've seriously altered their behavior to drive them to express themselves a certain way, like making themselves known on walls by writing their name on them. My view on graffiti has changed drastically in the course of just a couple of years. At first, I thought that graffiti was a very bad thing, and that it was annoying and ugly, but then one of my good friends actually started teaching me a little about graffiti, and showing me some cool things, and as time grew on I really began to respect graffiti, and graffiti artists. Now, I've started to really become interested in making graffiti, and I also really enjoy making stickers. I've put a whole bunch of stickers up now, and it's become a hobby I've really come to enjoy. Also, this is a really great video and I love all of the points you made. Thai Restauraunt!

I'm a-ok with graffiti (legal or otherwise) when it's being used for artistic expression. When it's just an illegible word copied in white paint, though, it stops being an expression of anything genuine. Be it weird faces, amateurish imagery, or elaborate scripts, it doesn't have to be a masterpiece, it just has to be original.

Graffiti for me has always been a "bad" habit with good results. It inspires creativity,Planning, organization, confidence, Principal, It inspires travel, it's often given me motivation and gives an amazing sense of accomplishment. Plus there nothing better than thinking that an entire police force,private security,fences,cameras and alarms can't stop you from getting your message out 💪 Another great video Love from Ireland 🇮🇪

I don't get why a lot of graffiti writers don't like street art. They're literally getting paid to do graffiti. Good for them.

I remember growing up near a large concrete structure (not quite sure what to call it, not a building or anything) somewhat close to my house. It was covered in graffiti, and of course there was some that absolutely should not have been there (hate symbols), but so much of it was beautiful. It was always amazing to go see the new additions after a couple of weeks.

I actually had seen some guys tagging my local Thai restaurant, it did feel disrespectful but I couldn't explain why 'til I watched this video and the unwritten rules video. I didn't actually know much about tagging beforehand, but always had an interest.

There are also people who get paid to do legal murals for businesses but under a pseudonym still conduct in the every day life of illegal graffiti *u’d b surprised* 💯💪🏽☮️🎨💜

my first graff was crap and it was difficult and i think i inhaled some paint. its hard to sneak the paint out and in of the house, but it's 5yrs till im 18 so i'll start doing graff then

I really like the idea that it turns into a hobby with stickers, and even though my tag is a shitname, I believe it makes people afraid.

I grew out of it, I have adhd. I only did it on walls that already had grafitti on them.

The point will vary from person to person, and this has changed over time. In the 80s there was no way someone would think they could make a living from this. But some points have remained there from the very start. Its easy to feel like a failure, with goals and expectations of successfully financial people being held up as being "the right" ones. Graffiti can kinda be like flipping the middle finger to that idea and saying, "hey I AM A SUCCESS, just not in the way you deem success", your kinda saying I will choose and determine my own idea of success, to some it is creating a good panel that runs and getting flicks, others a good trackside piece, others getting payed all over the world to paint walls...

To anyone else struggling right now: GO OUT AND BOMB. That shit will make you happier than a clam. It’s not an exaggeration when I say graf saved my fucking life. My soon to be ex wife fucking hated it, but I wouldn’t stop (don’t think I could). We’ve been separated for like two months but after I found out she was seeing someone else I was ready to fucking end it. The only reason I didn’t swan dive from a water tower a few weeks ago is bc I wanted to see how my fill in looked. I’m still hurting but it makes me happy to think about how much it must piss her off to see that massive fill-in every time she leaves the house. If you’re feeling down, the best cure is getting up.

It's so funny bcz, i have a friend who does it illegally and he keeps saying " you should try it illegally 1 time " and honestly, graffiti is his lifestyle. For me it's some kind of hobby and therapy. I always loved it when i was little, but from what i see alot of people are literally addicted bc of the adrenaline and rush it gives. I do it once or twice every 2 months but looking at him he's almost at every part in Amsterdam which is cool, but people need to realize there are different writers and graffiti artists out there. I do it for fun, and alot of people do it for the rush and adrenaline. But at the end people need to realize we're all some kind of big family even if some of them do it illegally or legally.

As a shop owner in a small town, I absolutely hate people who do graffiti because they vandalize my shop almost every week. It is very expensive to remove and I need to because it is ugly and profane and I’m struggling financially.

I'm not going to go in to detail right now but Personally I'm addicted to it my graffiti isn't just vandalism anymore it's art. it's hard to quit when you grew up doing it and studied it. there are a lot of reasons I do it I want respect recognition etc. Let's just say it's a hobby of mine😂

I really don't like to bomb residential areas, or just places where it just doesn't look like it belongs there. I can't speak for everyone but I feel like graffiti brings integrity to the areas it should be in. Under passes, under bridges, freighters, abandoned buildings. Things of that nature. I don't always follow the rules. But I do draw lines as to where I'll bomb. I'm nowhere near great at bombing. But I will get a up with a mop or do a little throwie or a few stickers atleast twice a day. But I like seeing other people's tags. I'm very observational and I'll take mental notes of who's where and hidden spots and I'll map it out and strategize a plan. Because I think that's the best part and most important part of bombing. Doing your homework 💯

One stand out artist that comes to mind is Neckface. This dude does legal graffiti and non graffiti related art while not being anonymous and continuing to do illegal graffiti. If you become big enough you can bomb in broad daylight, livestreaming on instagram and dont even need to cover your face😅

The point of graffiti is to deface and defile things that aren’t your own. Every person that defaces things that aren’t their own or without the owner’s permission is doing it solely for destruction. It doesn’t matter why you deface things, people employ limitless excuses for everything, it only matters that you’re doing it. I don’t even care that you’re doing it, I just want you to understand - despite all the excuses, in the end you’re just unethical immoral people defiling and destroying other peoples thing because you want to, nothing more. The lowest grade of ‘self expression’ is breaking other peoples things and calling it self expression, it’s the mentality of 2 year olds and common criminals, two groups not known for their depth of thought and believe everything is theirs because they can’t acknowledge other people exist that aren’t there to serve them; acceptable behavior from 2 years olds barely capable of spoken language, but anyone older than about 5, they’re just a degenerate.
