People say Bleach has zero/bad world building because it isn’t laid out in front of you in big chunks. You have to piece things together and often make the connections yourself. I can’t think of any instances where you’re spoon fed massive exposition dumps that tie multiple concepts and ideas together. Don’t even get me started on people complaining about Ichigo (and others) having no personality or defined goals. It drives me bonkers dawg lmao. With that said, WONDERFUL VIDEO
Largely I agree, but I do think this has SOME of those Shonen world lore dumps, but they are often framed much better and, especially early on, are framed through Rukias understand of the world, which itself grows and evolves. What I think bleach does is that it never serves stuff up more than once. So you are right on the money with how it expects you to piece it together. They also become less and less as the series progresses. Also, more often than not , those lore dumps are presented somewhat angrily, as Rukia is mad at Ichigo for not already knowing it for some reason.
Bleach has the best world building out of any shonen and yes that includes HxH. Narratively it isn’t the best not even top 10 shonen of all time but the secondary characters, the mundane things they do, the chemistry, the villains, the concept of the afterlife and how Ichigo’s friend interact makes Bleach an amazing experience. It’s my favorite shonen of all time even with it flaws, the world feels very real and alive, I feel like I could belong in this world. Bleach needs the HxH 2011 treatment and get rebooted entirely and scrap the meaningless filler *cough cough* bount arc.
I mean, my problem with bleach lore is it’s retarded… why does the soul society need a teenager to save it? How is the afterlife / entire world that fucking fragile… Idk. I mostly stop there. I could not give less of a shit about how he’s the most special / powerful because he has the most special / powerful blood combination
@@_.Jenstu It is objectively not the best, Bleach it’s very inconsistent, it has many plot holes, too many shit going off screen it’s not top 10 of all time and those are the facts… HxH, Yuyu Hakusho, FMAB, Rurouni kenshin, berserk, Code Geass, Dead note, one piece, even Naruto are all much better than bleach narratively but Bleach has something special that I can’t quite describe there’s a hint of greatness that’s in the manga and hasn’t been translated well to the anime. Again bleach is my favorite anime of all time but I’m not a blind fanboy, HxH dog walks bleach and so does other popular shonen Bleach just resonates with me better.
I like the theory of Ichigo being the next incarnation of the Soul King. As if by chance or by will of the same being who created the first soul king, he slowly gathers/reconnects with the powers and values of the different races in Bleach. Also would like to add that, if that's actually the case and Ichigo is to be the next Soul King, he's more complete, given that he actually has hollow and human within him, unlike the first Soul King.
Check out this massive analysis of Ichigo's character: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wJ-qJZGmIGs.html&lc=Ugyg5d9ed1dSaqaSMrR4AaABAg&ab_channel=Radman This video is a compilation of my Bleach worldbuilding video series. Links to each individual video can be found in the description above if you would rather watch it that way!
At 1:08:04 part of the video you can see that a gillion class of menos grande is not opening a portal to the world of the living but rather it is outright tearing open the space time continum completely physically with bare hands and yet people would still say that bleach is city level .
I remember seeing the 2nd Opening for Bleach for the first time, seeing the episode that played *On the Precipice of Defeat* as Ichigo is training and getting ready for his battle, or as it shows a Hollow or someone coming to earth to cause harm. Even as a very young teen I remember thinking "This is so badass... this is just SO COOL!" and it made ME feel cool. As nerdy as that may sound, I swear Ichigo made an impact on me as a child / teen. I still like to dress like him well into my adult years. He has good style :). Okay, now to shut up and watch this amazing video.
for the record I'm not walking around in Soul Reaper outfit lmao, I just meant his style in clothes when he's home. They really put a lot of thought and care into the character design on this show, more than any I've other seen. I love how each person has their own unique style in clothes, attitude, but all come together. Reminds me of my friends in school :')
A truly fascinating series that is overhated bc of its direction but if you clear your mind of it and come to understand the series and it’s world building you’ll see that the series is one of the greats shout out fiji for always speak on twt bout it
Thank you so much for making this video. Love Bleach, but never understood certain stuff fully not having the access to Manga that I'd like. Also Kenpachi becoming captain is one of the most bad assed moments ever!
Bleach not focusing too much on injustice of soul society is actually why I really like it. Not every moral quandry needs to be addressed by Ichigo's story but the author still weaves them into the universe because they exist, just like in our world where someone can go through their life and not fix all the worlds problems whilst still having a meaningful journey
love your work man, great detail and nice understandable still high-level explanation :D 07:15 bro, air-pressure/atmospheric pressure and concepts of air-flow are a real thing... not trying to correct you, just please dont state false statements, when you could have easily googled it...
This is an amazing video! Thank you for doing your research and everything you say is accurate! I would encourage any die hard Bleach fan to watch this video You know, the Humans in the Bleach verse are the dumb cattle that need to be churned to maintain the balance of the world. Bleach empowers what it means to be Human. Ichigo humanizes the other beings ( Shinigami, Hollows etc ) since he shares parts of them. It's an underlying message
This is honestly a great recap of Bleach's world and while I firmly maintain for myself that there's portions of Kubo's worldbuilding that I abhor, I can acknowledge that there's plenty I like. Good fucking God is listening to the German fucking PAINFUL though. Especially the medallion chant. That is straight up not a sentence. Kubo can't German to save his fucking life. Kubo. Please. Hire a translator. It's not that expensive. If not for Bleach since it's done, then for the doubtless future project where you butcher other languages, I promise you there's better options than google translate.
Yhwach is basically their Jesus and satan mixed into one. With Soul king being God. since he was cast out yet the closest thing to the souls king. God acknowledged that satan was the most beautiful of all his angels yet cast him out after he rebelled. Wow you just made me realize something about this anime
I honestly wonder how he'll want to eat Hugo is going to be since he gained the power once it's going to happen again confirming that yes the hell movie did happen since the hell Ark is pretty much saying that we've only seen the surface of
I think the arrancar release isn't there verison of bankia. I think it's comparable to shikia. The 4th espada is the only one to ever achieve a state equivalent to bankia.
oof you actually were not doing well with the german pronunciations, "reich" was pronounced so many different ways but Wandenreich was said pretty good - overall great video!
while alot of individuals in the gotei are inherently good the gotei as a whole have always been the villians, lest i remind those that scoff at that statement of the plans the zero division had for ichigo thst shunsai knew about and was ok with
So Rukia originally was gonna be running around in a schoolgirl outfit with a syth and a cape... and guns 18:09 the fact that Unohana didnt realize Ichigo was only at around 25% of his reiatsuuntil Ichigo said it did proves that their shihakusho doesnt reflect their reiatsu. Thats part of Ichigo's bankai. Like his fullbring he wears his original bankai before he gets his true bankai. The shihakusho shows if the person does or doesn't have reiatsu in general. Like when Rukia lost hers to Ichigo Btw whats with the whole saying everything in english yet pronouncing it like youre from (Japan Spain ect) trying to speak English but with an accent? Ichigo is also not a vizard... vizards were shinigami who gained hollow powers but Ichigo was born with both. So he's a bit different than a vizard cause he doesn't need to hollowfy... cause he is always hollowfied Please stop saying echt like that... its kinda disgusting
Black VS White is a very strong theme in traditional japanese literature. And those colors do not actually represent good and evil. White is a color with maximum brightness, worn by the individualists, egoists, people who loves to stand out and be in a spotlight. Black is minimum brightness, represents mediocrity, stability, "normality", people who likes to blend in with the masses. So, in Japan, country with very strong feeling of unity of society, white is a something that goes against/stands out from society in a contrary to black which, basically, IS a society. Both are not inherently good or evil, they are just different. Hero can wear white and he is good. So as homicidal maniac, who is bad. Police wear toned down uniforms, and they are good. So is a thief, who maximally blends in a society and knows all its laws, but does bad things. It also wery cleverly reflected in Shinigami uniforms, where all below captains wear just black, meaning that they have less personality and more depend on society and bound by it's laws. And captains wear white on top of a black uniform, meaning that even if they were once were in society (Gothey 13, in this example), they have transcended it and now became more individualistaic, with laws of society being more of a guidelines and not sanctions. Arrancars, on the other hand, wear full white - cuz they are individualists and egoists at their base as hollows, and bound to the will of society (in thes case, Espada) only by the black sash, which represents the will of its ruler - Aizen. And if there is no Aizen, there will be no Espada, no hollow society, which will revert them all to their natural, "white state". Hollow masks may also be the sign that their mind have been overtaken by the ideal egoism, which forces them to ignore the norms and rules of society and do everything their carnal instincts desire, but I may be reading too much into this. :3
After watching this in its entirety, I feel two things. One, an exhausting headache. Two, the accomplishment of getting a university degree. Great work!
The amount of time it took into making this video must’ve taken months. You have to write a script, redraft it, record voice lines, research the anime being covered, saving screen captures from web pages etc. Respect
I haven't finished the video yet but you are right about one thing that a lot of people misconceive world building as just a simple detailed setting with people, geography, and culture and I'm just really tired of it. Any story had world building on it even on stories like How I Met your Mother or The Office and I sort of get irritated when people only recognize world building when it has a lot of details on it and most of it just ties to the plot, and alot of the people just dismiss soft world-building that is just as well done on other series aside from probably berserk
There seems to be a subtle hint about the races of Bleach, that while we generally think of them as separate, there's a lot of overlap between them. Regular humans by becoming pluses can eventually become either hollows or shinigami. Arrancars have weapons that are similar to the zanpakuto of the shinigami and they can use quincy powers with the right tools. Quincies can also use their conjuration to create weapons similar to the zanpakuto and you can also be a quincy without actually originating from Yhwach. Fullbringers conjure abilites from items similar to quincies and they can create powers that imitate those of hollows or shinigami. Perhaps these lines are much muddier than even the characters inside the story realise or admit to themselves.
I don’t care what anyone says going up to someone and flexing your spiritual pressure is the coolest anime concept ever. The gravity and fear is almost tangible in the air pressing you down to let you know your at a disadvantage so you can run or take the fight more seriously. it’s just awesome.
@@SD-kw2bnI think the main reason is that Quincy are known for using spiritual pressure of their enemies against them i.e. the fight with Mayuri where uryu starts decomposing the building or the fight with female ex arrancar where he steals energy from her tail.
@@victorhernandez-uy7wrhe was absorbing reishi, I’m not sure to what extent they can absorb reiryoku if at all. Bc if they can wouldn’t they be doing it throughout fights as most Shinigami don’t suppress it all the time especially not mid fight.
Big miss on the Fullbring part, You should definitely read the CFYOW novels ! There is a fullbringer named Aura she became the leader of Xcution after Ginjo's death and she's basically the strongest normal -(Ichigo, Ginjo)- fullbringer ever known. I'll say no more to let you discover by yourself :)
Long story short Ichigo Kurosaki is Sora soul society is a world in Kingdom Hearts, Hollows are heartless, Arancar/vasto lordes are nobodies, zanpaktos are key blades and the realm of the soul King is kingdom hearts itself, yawach is the original Xehanort.
It's a very interesting video and a well done and searched one ! I've really enjoyed this 2 hours session of BLEACH lore / world-building really, thanks.
@17:57 , Ichigo's bankai Shihaksho is tied to his Reiryoku, in the convo between him and Unohana, she assumed orihimes healing was like Shinigami's which was to refill their energy THEN heal wounds. she assumed he was at 100% because he was healed. he pointed out that he has 1/3 or a 1/4 of his coat left and stated for him it shows his % of energy left. she got bug eyed realizing how powerful his energy wsa at that level and figured topping him off was priority for success
I enjoyed rewatching all of this. And I'm so excited for your videos (if you decided to continue them, which I wish you should) about the pendulum arc and your theories about a higher will compared to the Reio. There's a lot of possibilities, adding the fact that the dimension of hell also existed way before the creation of the three dimensions in bleach. That can possibly mean, there's more people who can be stronger and more primordial than the era of the Reio and Ichibei's, which would also mean that the primordial history we know right now is not it 🔥
The current Quincy are Yhwach's "children" because they were given this power by the people he originally gave pieces of him when he was a baby. Those people had children and those children were the first Quincy. Pretty much what I took from the story.
Can u talk about the eyes in bleach universe? why does reio have four, yhwach had two then it changed and became three, mimihagi have one but the other arm (pernida) has two. Can u upload a video telling us why it is different and what does the eyes represent and why yhwach eyes have became three?
58:49 dunno where you got this from but we wouldn't even pronounce the word like that. The c is on it's own just a k sound like in count in English. Anyway "Monk of destruction" would be "Mönch der Zerstörung".
Yeah I made a mistake there, it doesn't mean that in German but rather the Kanji that is used in Japanese. In the manga, Quincy is spelled using Kanji that mean monk of destruction (滅却師 mekkyakushi?) but it is pronounced as Quincy (クインシー Kuinshī)
One small correction. Different races do have different signatures, but theres not much evidence that itw possible to tell human from quincy and/or quincy from shinigami. The reason for this is when ishida/ichifo use the spirit ribons technique and they dont immediately detect that ichigo is not fully human to begin with
I wish they would go more into depth on what a soul is. Sometimes they talk about it like an external entity other times they talk about the soul as if it’s an internal organ and other times they talk about the soul when referring to any ghost that isn’t a hollow or soul reaper. Except that one time Aizen referred to Rukiya as a soul when removing the hogioku
It can definitely be complicated but I wouldn't say it's ever unnecessary. Everything tying to the soul/heart or 'kokoro' is incredibly appropriate thematically and complements the many ideas Kubo explores throughout the story.
There's actually a bigger reason for Ginjo to want revenge on Soul Society a descendant of the 5 great nobles like Byakuya and Yoruichi Tokinada he actually planned to create a perfect hybrid like Ichigo to be his puppet and be the new soul king but instead of how Ichigo was born he took a shortcut and take soul king fragments from Fullbringers by killing them the fact he's a noble and Jushiro was monitoring Ginjo helped him got away with it He's also the reason why Tosen went bad by killing Tosens friend who's Tokinadas wife and when Tosen wanted to seek justice Tokinada acted nicely and Tosen pretty much believed he's a good guy then at last moment flipped revealing how evil he is and how he killed his wife for no reason
