Fun fact. Wind Waker link was the only link to not literally be a reincarnated link. Instead, in order to save his sister, he went to the gods and forced them to choose him and dug up the prices of the triforce of courage from the depths of the sea. Fucking badass

Sounds like Breath of the wild is just a reboot of the lore. It’s so far in the future that it doesn’t really matter and so it’s Nintendo’s get out of jail free card.
@@calebchan9411 nope. They haven’t said it’s canon and it directly conflicts with BotWs canon so until a confirmation it shouldn’t be considered as such.
@@peanutbutter6720 No it doesn't. AoC and BotW can both still happen, it's just in different timeline's thanks to Terrako traveling back in time to prevent the calamity. We've seen this before in OoT when Zelda sends Link back to the past so he can live his childhood and he prevents Ganondorf from doing anything, while the adult timeline still continues even without Link there. This isn't like the OG Hyrule Warriors, this can very much be canon. We just have to wait to see what Nintendo does with BotW2 and future games. To say it, "shouldn’t be considered as such" is kind of pushing it. It is very much debatable.
They probably never made these games with a timeline in mind... just a re-imagining of the story each time. Then people started asking for a timeline and they threw this one together.
idk i feel like the first zelda game just doesnt make sense if it wasnt a thought out plan for it. just imagine if there wasnt a game after it. 😭😭 like theres no substance
Ocarina of Time was made with the split timeline in mind and was always going to be a prequel to A Link to the Past. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are clearly sequels to Ocarina of Time in different timelines. The Fallen Hero timeline was created because there was no way for A Link to the Past or any sequel to take place in any other timeline.
I feel like Miyamotto never cared for a timeline but Aonuma does. All the games that came after Ocarina of Time clearly have a place in a bigger continuity.
I am happy you've chosen to analyze this as "these things happened for whatever technological or editorial reason was convenient at the time" because that position is 100% accurate.
I like the theory that the triforce of courage gives you the power of rebirth(saving and loading the game) for those that are courageous enough to continue links adventure. Link therefore becomes the "link" between Hyrule and our Earth.
I absolutely love you, simple explanations and jokes of these CRAZY convoluted stories. I have legit watched your videos on repeat. I'm hoping you tackle the Metal Gear Solid series! Please post more videos. I hope all is well in your life!

@@Paradox1012 My theory is that the sequel to breath of the wild is going to involve time travel which somehow led to the timelines merging at some point in the past
Yet the only way this would be able to happen is if there was a game where someone used the Triforce to attempt, let’s say, time travel, but as a result they accidentally united the three branches into one timeline again, where a new Link travels across Hyrule completing tasks with characters, locations, and items from all three branches. Too bad that game doesn’t exist yet... *o wait*
I'm happy to have found your video, this was by far the best explanation for the legend of Zelda Time line, every other video I've watched made no sense.
@@francescomanfredi3990 tbh I thought age of calamity's story was even better than the original breath of the wild. (Its more complex with all the time travel, but I really liked the happy ending) it's also been confirmed to be canon.

Ngl, as a person who had played phantom hourglass I feel like that game is seriously underrated. The temple of the ocean king had me scared shitless when guards spotted me. Haven’t played other games except for botw, so I don’t know if others are better.
The best justification for the "fallen timeline", IMO, is the following: in OoT, Link is forced to go back in time at least two times: for the Lens of Truth and for the Spirit Temple. Every time he does that it creates a new timeline, leaving the timeline he was previously on a place where there is no hero around to beat Ganon.
@@Teknanam That didn't exactly contradict what he said. Fallen Hero timeline takes place in an alternate timeline which is almost identical to the events of Adult Link's timeline except Link gets defeated by Ganon. It was probably created as a result of Link's time traveling to the past creating a separate timeline.
@@the757general2 Wouldn't that separate timeline just be one with no Link at the time of Ganondorf's rise to power? Thus, Ganondorf can't defeat Link and claim his Triforce due to his sudden lack of existence from then on.

@@saguilira I see what you're getting at. Like, there are Koroks and Rito in botw, and they don't appear in any other branch, so it's in the adult timeline! But wait, there are Zora, so it must be the child or fallen hero timelines! And then there's lynels, which only appear in the fallen hero timeline. But then there's bokoblins, lizalfos, and chuchus, all of which appear in every timeline *except* for the fallen hero timeline. There's just so much evidence for and against all three branches of the timeline. You think you've found evidence for one timeline, and then you get tons of evidence for a different one, and also lots more disproving the one that you thought it was in. The *only* possible options are: - botw is *so far into the future* that it literally doesn't matter which timeline it is in (unlikely considering the ruins of lon lon ranch are still there, and that the Zora still have accurate accounts of what happened in OOT) - sometime between the end of each timeline and the age of extremely advanced technology, there was a sort of collapse in the fabric of reality that brought the timelines together
Sagui actually it’s in the child timeline. The spirit of the hero doesn’t actually exist in the adult or fallen timeline. Wind Waker Link isn’t actually Link, but someone who took on his name. Fallen timeline is because Ganon tricked link in one timeline to go back in time to get past the spirit Temple so he could win in that timeline. A Link to the Past Link earned his power through artifacts. Wind Waker link also needs artifacts. Child timeline link just needs 13 hearts in BotW to pull the sword. Twilight princess Link has the triforce automatically.
So to summarize and clarify for my 2 brain cells: Link do Link things, then creates a timeline split, one where he grows up again by stopping a moon, becoming a doggo, then killing Ganon again, or he just kinda disappears and Ganon causes the kingdom to flood. OR Link dies, Ganon takes over and someone conveniently named Link stops him, then all three splits merge into Breath of The Wild Link to stop Ganon from doing Pokémon evolution and destroying Hyrule for the 29th time in a row
I loved this video! Your editing is really snappy and well-paced. I like it. I’m probably the only person who would watch it, but hey, if you ever decided to do a video on Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles I would definitely love it.
Omg this brings so much nostalgia to me from when I was 12 and the latest switch just came out and then I played ocarina of time and it was great and then I saved up to buy majura's mask and omg so much memories
Update: BOTW should technically be in the fallen Hero timeline, since the imprisoning war is mentioned in the sequel of BOTW, TOTK, which takes place about a few months later. Buuuuut then again, Terrako came from the BOTW timeline, and created an alternate timeline, making another time split. Why, Nintendo, why

The two Zeldas make sense if the royal family has no way of knowing when a princess will be a reincarnation of Zelda So they name every princess Zelda Zelda's mom was called Zelda And so was he grandma Zelda who was a reincarnation of the goddess was put to sleep and then later her decent who was also name Zelda isn't the reincarnation of the goddess since the other one is still sleeping
Tried to answer the best I can, but I haven't played all of them... 1. No 2. Zelda still exists just reincarnated each time. 3. Link's fairy in Ocarina of Time(Navi) disappears by the end of the game, Majora's Mask is the quest to find her 4. Six sages are the supporting characters you meet in OoT who help you defeat Ganon 5. The six sages 6. Haven't played Twilight Princess 7. TP takes place after MM, in where young link becomes a stalfos (Hero's Shade/dead guy) and you play as his descendent 8. Link gets the ability to become a wolf while in the twilight realm 9. IDK( you're right tho) 10. Ganon broke free from the seal and brought upon chaos to Hyrule causing the Goddesses to flood it 11.Pirate Zelda/Tetra = Zelda 12. Zelda and Link Yes. Ganon doesn't really die half the time and is only sealed 13. Zelda's body is ripped away from her to be used to resurrect the big bad 14. Those were his caretakers from when he was a child. How? IDK 15. Lorule =/= Dark world 16. The person above answered that for me 17. IDK 18. No one knows 19. This is just simplifying the series as a whole not going into detail

So not to sound like a nerd but the reason why bowt belongs at a merge of all of the time lines is because of hyrule warriors. We’re the main villain kind of merges the times line thus there being both Rito and Zora in bowt even Ritos evolved from Zora.
If anyone's confused about breath of the wild merging the timelines, think of it as a fixed point in time. No matter what happens in the 3 timelines, after an extremely long time they all end up converging on that exact version of hyrule. EG. Sea salt in the middle of the map? At some point all 3 versions of hyrule must have flooded, we just only saw one. Same goes for any other discrepancy.
Yeah, the placement makes perfect sense. Breath of the Wild is one of the least confusing parts of the timeline. For me, the most confusing part is, the entirety of the Downfall Timeline's existence. Its existence makes no sense, and the placement of the games in that particular timeline also make no sense. That entire timeline is just a giant, inexplicable fever dream. The placement of Four Sword Adventures is also very unfitting and nonsensical, but at least with that, it is only one game that is out of place, not the entirety of the Child Timeline. That placement could also be fixed more easily.
@@Isuream6331 As far as I can tell, there is a minimum of 3 distinct, incompatible chronologies in the franchise, and a maximum of 10, though if I had to give an argument for a specific number, it would be 4. At the very minimum, we can see that none of the 3D games are compatible with the 2D games, although the 2D games are all "compatible enough" with one another to form a coherent chronology. Among the 3D games, there is also a clear discrepancy between the pre-Skyward Sword 3D games, and the 3D games including Skyward Sword and published afterwards. To put it more simply: Ocarina of Time was basically a reboot of the franchise, and Skyward Sword was basically a re-reboot of the franchise.

Feels weird that in the timeline where you seal ganon away, he immedeatly breaks out, where in the timeline where you fail, he gets sealed away anyway. feels like they could switch those timelines and it would be a lot smoother
The reason it feels weird is that the entire chronology is an inconsistent mess that was haphazardly spliced together, without much regard for the content that is actually displayed in the games, and completely ignoring the fact that these games were not designed with the priority of having them fit in a chronology, since this has never been a primary concern for Nintendo. This franchise is ultimately no different from the Super Mario Bros. franchise in this regard. We are not looking at a Triple A game franchise from the Western continents.
I like how the community just came up with a comprehensive timeline, and the head designer who just made it off of his joy from spelunking as a kid just said, "Sure. That story sounds good. It's canon now."
@@red5t653 nah original comment is right. the devs even said it. the community tried to connect them all after OoT, and the devs said they never thought of it that way, it was just random to them. even said the timeline wasn't canon for a while. and later when the community pretty much said "we don't care what u think, it's canon in our eyes" they changed their minds and went with it. causing them to make games to go along with the timeline the community created. u have to remember that this timeline wasn't created in order. they really were completely random in the beginning. skyward sword is the first game in the timeline but was the 50 year anniversary game of LoZ. proof is in the pudding
@@thunderclancat123 It would be real nice if the developers made more unique Zelda games instead of rehashing the plot of some of the games, only changing some of the characters and setting to make it seem different but otherwise, the formula feels largely the same with some games being the exception like Majora's Mask. Honestly, why should they bother making a timeline if each game feels largely the same in how it's structured? Even Skyward Sword's story feels unnecessary because you could easily swap out the setting of it taking place in the sky to it taking place on oceanic islands like Wind Waker and it would make more sense. Why are there people living on floating rocks in the sky where they could easily fall off in the first place? It makes no sense because of how dumb it sounds. In the Zelda lore it mentions a sacred realm in the sky where the goddesses left the triforce after they went after creating hyrule and that's allegedly what the setting is for Skyward Sword, though if it is then it feels less mystifying because common hylians inhabit the sky where the triforce is kept, so the implied Sacred Realm doesn't feel too "sacred". Another thing that feels redundant is the need to tell the story of the first Link and how he got his tunic uniform, there's not much grandiose about how he got it, it feels just the same like in any other Zelda game. I have to also mention Demise. Ganondorf was already supposed to be a reincarnation of evil like with pig Ganon, so why bother making another version of him where he looks no different than his Gerudo appearance? Like I said before, it feels largely redundant and this was the last game that they were using the Ocarina of Time Zelda formula because they were running dry of ideas and had to have a moment of realization that they can't making the same game structurally every time with different gameplay gimmicks, so they looked to inspiration from other games and made Breath of Wild. And Breath of the Wild did shake things up in a positive way. Though like with previous Zelda games the story feels somewhat similar in that it felt like an after thought. If Nintendo wants to create a Zelda timeline to explain events that took place, they need to start making Zelda games with more in-depth and unique stories instead the same old. "reincarnated-hero-needs-to-defeat-reincarnation-of-evil-to-save-the-world-in-an-endless-battle-that-happens-forever." People will get eventually bored of this type of same old story structure that they've been doing for 30+ years now.
Man this is the first time I've been able to catch one of these video is extremely well made in just the couple first minutes. I thank you for putting so much effort into. I'll always be confused with the zelda timeline because it was I think supposed to be individual stories in a larger story line. Link go bacc he stops gannon and repeat.
I always liked the idea that it was various retelling of a legend. Allows for infinite versions with out having to tie to any time line or continuity. Nothing needs to git together or can sort of fit if they want it too. A story told, retold, and embellished throughbthe ages
