AT-AP, what happens when you want an AT-TE with an even bigger gun. Love this thing and how incredibly silly and devastatingly powerful it is. Nothing says power like a big ass cannon mounted on a giant tripedal walker.
Shockingly underused in both Legends and Disney Alt-universe takes of the Clone Wars, nicely put to good use by fringe groups for the former during the Galactic Civil War. That's what I think of this insignificant yet still worthy weapon of war.
True, I wish we saw more of the AT-AP during the Clone Wars in Legends, but I always thought it was cool how in certain maps of Empire at War: Forces of Corruption you could find a building (I think it was an abandoned factory) and they would span a few AT-APs for you. I liked the idea of people in the Rebellion or other organizations finding the AT-AP in abandoned places and using them against the Empire
@@Cobra1098 The Empire had a bad habit of abandoning a lot of their great and effective stuff from the Clone Wars for the Rebels and others to get their hands on. One of the reasons they fell because they weren't smart about keeping their good stuff safe. Just another example of Imperial incompetence. I am amazed the Empire lasted as long as it did.
1:39 It’s such a shame that the AT-XT never saw much action. That Walker was so cool, basically the AT-ST of the Clone Wars. Equipped with cannons, powerful bombs, and could even come with an energy shield that could repel enemy fire for a short time. I absolutely loved playing as them in the Clone Wars video game. Hope they become canon again one day. ^_^
6:26 I absolutely love how quick you can see the stabilizer leg come up and then back down. Its such an odd but really cool walker, and its one of my favorites.
Lucas snuck a kit-bash into the CGI prequels, nice. Also it is essentially a M7 Priest which was built on the chassis of the M3 Lee, which was a development of the M2 medium which seems to have inspired the AT-TE's appearance.
I compare these things to the STUGs of the German army of WW 2. Perfect for sniping tanks and fortifications. And this man really said snorting of line of spice 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Bruh please drop more jokes like that
Id have loved to see the at-ot get up armored and fully enclosed and given the main gun from the at-ap but it is remote operated and it was lightly shielded
I was well acquainted with the the AT-AP in my younger years playing Lego Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where in the arcade mode levels, the AT-AP would often be the first large assault vehicle you’d unlock on the Republic team.
It's a phenomenal vehicle. Basically taking the frontal assault firepower of an AT-TE without the infantry compartment. In this sense, it's more like an AAT. Or, the AT-TE is like an AAT & MTT combined. The result is an extraordinarily powerful bipedal walker that is still faster, lighter, and cheaper than its predecessor. It's a faster artillery piece, and that 3rd stabilizing leg is genius. Shows its power, too. Most bipedal walkers are lighter like the AT-ST, but AT-AP shows us not always the case. Only downside is lack of rear-facing weaponry like the AT-TE has. That and its lighter armor on the backside means it can be flanked like the AAT.
0:25-0:28: For once, I am not one of those people, I actually know a bit about this vehicle because I looked up info on the Siege of Saleucami where it participated, and because I remember using this vehicle in the second Ryloth level in Lego Star Wars 3 The Clone Wars before it got taken out because it died of fright from those beasts that were released against Obi-Wan, Cody, Waxxer, and Boil.
It's great in the mods for *Star Wars: Empire at War; Forces of Corruption* that surround the Prequel Era/Clone Wars. Awesome concept, though I'm sure in reality, the extra gun on top may be a bit much/inconvenient in terms of design balance. AT-HE also needs a video, hella cool design
I love to imagine the original prototype had two legs. Then they fired it for the first time. Like to imagine too Empire would have gone further with design due to intimidation factor such large mech has, not to mention the guns and subsequent hobsensian doctrine it follows suit with. Maybe returned to four legged design. But alas, its sillyness was a one off to be used in the long run by fringe elements as “better than nothing” during the civil war.
The AT-AT is also under-unitilized. It should not be able to transport troops without removing and re-arranging some stuff. What it should be designed for is a heavily armored and heavily shielded weapons platform. In the EU there are versions with, if I remember correctly, large-scale shield generators, turbolasers, artillery, etc. Make them modular and design packs to compliment each other to devastate heavily defended enemy positions. They don't need to do it entirely on their own, large numbers of AT-RTs would also be a great compliment to their assault rather than the AT-ST. The AT-ATs break the defenses and the AT-RTs rush in and slaughter everyone before they can adapt.
I agree, for battlefield usage. All that height and armour of the AT-AT has to be more useful than just the forward cannons. Given the Empire was designed to police the galaxy this is highly unlikely. The AT-RT needs some improvements but its agility does make it effective light-cavalry. AT-ST has its place, as per its name, but can also be used like decentralised & mobile command-posts.
I miss Star Wars: Commander. If you want some bits and piecex of it, my Empire at War mod called Alliance at War features bits and pieces from that game. I am the dev to it. ':^)
