The end of the battle at 08:40 where the dipplins fight against each other made me think back during the festival. Kieran buys two candy apples from a stall, one for himself and one for the main character. This somehow made the battle feel even more bittersweet from Kierans side. From friends to rivals. 🤧

I just love how kieran started out as a timid boy and we drove him into insanity

The pain and frustration you feel while yelling “STAY IN THE BALL” at the screen is something all Pokemon fans universally know!

Ogerpon's storyline embodies the whole "treasure" theme of SV so dang well. It's masks were covered by greedy Pokemon for how they could empower their wearer, but where they saw value it their power, Ogerpon saw their value as a keepsake of her long-lost friend.

I love the siblings. They feel like actual developing characters and completely unique compared to most of our past rivals. Carmine going from hating your guts and being spiteful to talking to you directly during her goodbye was great. And Kieran going from a shy timid boy to the rage filled kid hell bent on taking us down gave me shivers. Definitely looking forward to more of them in the future. Also Ogerpon is friend shaped and she deserves all the hugs and headpats.

Kieran becoming a twist villain is something i genuinely didn't expect. None of the past twist villains in pokemon have suprised me, but watching Kieran slowly wither in his mind and eventually snap was the exact opposite of where i saw the dlc going.

On the Pokemon subreddit, the user SobaSamurai made this very detail post about Keiran and Carmine (Imagine not everyone here go there and RU-vid doesn’t allow links) I want to repeat again. All credits to SobaSamurai | Carmine | Carmine leads off with a Mightyena, a Dark-type Pokemon, which are usually associated with unsavory characters and seems like a perfect fit for Carmine's acerbic first impression. However, interestingly enough, Mightyena's dex entries state that it will listen to a superior trainer, similar to how during our first meeting, we prove ourselves to Carmine by showing our battling skills. It's also a Pokemon known for its teamwork, something that Carmine seems to at least care for, given she's the one who comes up with the idea of creating a team to defeat the Lousy Three. And as a pack creature, Mightyena would naturally take care of their own and be very territorial, similar to how Carmine is very protective of Kieran but also hates the idea of outsiders intruding upon Kitakami and being disrespectful. Her next pokemon is Ninetails. For one, it's a lot less "violent"-looking than Mightyena, but hides a more vengeful side if it is approached wrongly (namely, grabbing its tails); much like how despite her beautiful appearance, Carmine becomes a bit fired up if prodded wrong (though, thankfully doesn't lay a deadly curse upon people like Ninetails). After that is Leavanny, which is fairly interesting considering what it is known for. Leavanny are Pokemon famous for their nurturing, but it also only evolves from Swadloon with high friendship. In a similar vein, as our relationship with Carmine grows and we become better friends, we see that she's not actually that bad of a person and actually has quite the caring streak. She worries over Kieran and is usually trying to help him out, looking hard for a third mask before the festival for us, and getting angry on Ogerpon's behalf when she finds out the truth behind the story. Yet, while a gentle Pokemon, its Pokedex entries state that Leavanny also shows no mercy to those who endanger small Pokemon, similar to how Carmine shows no mercy against the Lousy Three after their attack on Ogerpon. Sinistcha was one that I initially kind of struggle for a link, but after some more looking, finally found something. For one, Sinistcha is based off of Japanese tea ceremony, which revolve the concept of being calm or zen. However, based on a camera angle that I managed to get during battle as it was being released (though it was blurry and I could be wrong), I'm pretty sure Carmine's Sinistcha is an Unremarkable Form one. This would mean it evolved from a Counterfeit Polchageist. Similarly, Carmine tries to pretend to be calm, but often fails when someone else points something out. But, Sinistcha's ability is called "Hospitality" which heals an ally when it comes out on field, hinting again at Carmine's hidden caring side. Finally is Morpeko, which has the simplest explanation. It's angry half the time, and happy the other half, making it a tsundere. Carmine is also a tsundere. Case closed. (For those of you who don't know what a tsundere is, it's a Japanese term to refer to characters who struggle to show their affection, often hiding it in bursts of anger, until the bond between them and the other party has become incredibly strong. Think of Misty, from the anime). But to be serious, the quick switch from anger to happy and vice-versa between the two is a good match. Though arguably, it is probably the weakest link out of this whole bunch. | Kieran | And here's the doozy. In his first team, Kieran only uses a Sentret and Yanma. Both pokemon are unassuming and rather weak, reflecting how most of us probably though of him at the start of the DLC. But by the time of our final battle with him, things have changed. He's gotten rid of his Sentret/Furret, and now he leads off with a Shiftry. In addition to being part Dark-type, it is literally known as the Wicked Pokemon! Furthermore, its Violet entry reads, "Legends tell of a bird Pokémon that received divine punishment for its evil deeds and had its beak and wings replaced." This could perhaps hint at a darker turn for Kieran which seems likely based on the ending to this DLC. His next Pokemon is Gliscor. Not only does this Pokemon look intimidating, but as a predator it's rather terrifying. It can glide silently and observes its prey silently, striking before the opponent has had a chance to realize. In a similar way, Kieran's more unpleasant tendencies were very well hidden early on (but still noticeable if you paid attention, such as his reasoning for liking the story of Ogerpon before finding out the truth of her story), only to come out in full force by the end when it was too late. Next up is Poliwrath which (beside literally having "wrath" in its name) is a Pokemon famous for its strength. This reflects Kieran's desire for strength, to an almost unhealthy degree, as he initially likes Ogrepon for its ability to take on three opponents at once, and this was while still thinking she was a villain who endangered the town. But another interesting thing is how his Poliwrath knows Belly Drum, a move that raises attack at the cost of the user's health. Similarly, I feel like Kieran's going to get stronger, but at the cost of something important to him. Or at the very least, he is definitely the type who would sacrifice his own well-being to get stronger. Fourth is Yanmega, his evolved Yanma from earlier. Not only does it look more intimidating in this form, but it has the ability Tinted Lens. Similarly, Kieran is seeing everything in the game through his own "Tinted Lenses," such as believing that Carmine and us are laughing about him when we're not. Furthermore, it is also known as the "Ogre Darner Pokemon," a reminder of Kieran's obsession with Ogerpon. Yanma also evolves into Yanmega via "Ancient Power," and if Kieran doesn't have some connection to Terapagos in the Indigo Disk (another "Ancient Power"), I'll be surprised. Second to last is Probopass, which, like Sinistcha for Carmine, I initially struggled to find a connection for but eventually did. Here, Probopass is a compass Pokemon, which means it is incapable of facing away from north. In other words, it can't change its point of view. In a similar way, Kieran struggles with being unable to accept things not going his way, unable to change his point of view, such as when Carmine apologizes for keeping Ogerpon a secret yet he doesn't accept it. Also, much like how Probopass is a magnet, which forces metal to come to it, Kieran tried to force Ogerpon to become his Pokemon even though she'd already made up her mind. And finally, we have Dipplin. Dipplin is, of course, based on a candied apple. However, it is not the apple itself, but rather the creature which has hollowed out the insides and now controls it. Earlier at the festival, if I remember correctly, Kieran showed an interest in the candied apples, much like many children would. However, by the point of this battle, that child-like nature has been hollowed out, leaving only a shell behind. And now, Kieran is controlled by envy toward us. And Envy is often associated with a green monster, much like how Dipplin's real form is green.

I love how they did the Ogerpon battle. That is such a good way to do a boss battle based around its masks and it terastalizing its masks.

Us gradually turning Kieran into a yandere was not the plot twist I expected.

That ending with Kieran has me genuinely nervous. I wanted to be his friend, but he seems to have become obsessed with beating me. Plus, I feel like him wanting to battle to determine who would become Ogerpon’s trainer was him seeing her as a prize. He couldn’t respect her desire to be the player’s Pokémon so he demanded a battle for her. Carmine was right in trying to get Kieran to consider what Ogerpon wanted, but he was selfish and insisted on the battle regardless. I hope that the Indigo Disk explains why he’s so determined to defeat the player.

Once again this proves how SV has one of the BEST storyline of all mainline Pokémon games like damn Kieran...just DAMN!

9:52 For a neat bit of Ogerpon anatomy, look close when she jumps and you can see she has neither arms nor shoulders. The "cloak" is part of her head and lets her manipulate objects as if she had arms.

So, to recap: you meet a sheltered, withdrawn kid with an abusive sister. You gradually help him come out of his shell and learn to stand on his own two feet. Then you keep secrets from him and tear his dream away at the last second, causing him to snap. Who’s the bad guy here? I feel like it’s us.

Ogerpon actually uses a cudgel for Ivy Cudgel and I love it.

Fun fact: the pool of water you were in at the end is the only place in Kitikami you can catch Feebas outside of raids.

The promotional art for the indigo disk has Kieran facing away so that we can't see his face. In that last scene with him, it looked like he was putting his hair up. I'm really excited to see where his story goes 👀

I put Ogrepon in a Friend Ball too, seemed fitting and strangely matches her color scheme to some degree.

Of course Briar is blinded by the children, she has monster eyes that are adapted to darkness!

Seeing you actively struggle to catch the Loyal Three makes me feel a little better, I was losing my MIND while trying to catch them.

"So yeah I know this makes things even worse, but I totally knocked out Ogerpon with my Sinistcha in a battle just now. But I am sure she's being treated well otherwise!" Carmine, probably.

I was genuinely afraid of Keiran's cliff hanger, not just because of the cutscene but my hand and nose randomly started to bleed.....

During the story telling the truth about Ogerpon, it describes the masks powers. The real mask has the power to bring things back to life. So when Kieran took the mask to the shrine, it resurrected the loyal 3

I think the 'loyal three' coming back to life was triggered by Kieren Punching the monument out of frustration causing it to break and releasing them. At least I think that's what happened.

To be honest scarlet and violet are just nutty with the underlying story to everything. Like kids rallied up to form gangs with a big boss in charge to govern things to fight bullies. You have gym leaders that like geeta, some that really don't and a couple that are straight depressed mainly Larry and the ice type gym leader. Arvin is straight abandoned like naruto, then his parent is killed and he has no knowledge or even how to take that news in the end, all while learning his parent built a so called time machine that has the possibility to constantly release Pokemon from who knows where that could create a Major problem for paldea. He also is afraid the only friend he has is going to die and has major trust issues along with penny. We literally made friends with the weird kids and yes nemona is included in that. Now we have Kieran who is one bad day from creating an evil team for world domination all because we constanty beat him and his sister destroyed his ego with his family not helping. And that's just the main people.

And this is where Kieran's villan arc begins

As I said before, Kieran is both the cutest and the creepiest character

The Teal Mask is like those anime where the trio consists of: A clueless protag, A yandere love interest, and a shy type character that by the end of the season slowly turns to the dark side.

I absolutely called Kieran's "twist" from the get go! The kid seemed like someone straight out of crime documentary! Just imagine it for a sec. "He was nice and quiet boy. He was very shy but had a good heart. Unfortunately, he didn't really have any friends. His sister despite how much she loved him manifested that love in a less than ideal way, constantly belittling him, scolding him and was generally very controlling of him. He admired a creature that was thought to have attacked the village and killed its defenders centuries ago, even before the real truth about in more recent times. One day, he met a kid and became friends with him. Unfortunately, the friend was much more talented than he was, constantly beating him everytime they fought until he stole the very creature that Kieran wanted so desperately, something he admired since his childhood, something that everyone ill-treated him for all stolen away by the innocence of victory. Kieran took an oath that day. That he'd get stronger no matter what the price and get back what he perceived as rightfully his." Tell me this doesn't sound like it came right out of a biopic about a serial killer.

The "I hate this monkey!" & "you stupid bird!" had me laughing so hard. Lol Okidoki being the only one to be ok to fight is hilarious.

Haven’t played this yet as I don’t have the DLC but OMG this looks so amazing and Ogrepon is SO CUTE! I want her SO BADLY! She is SO PRECIOUS!

The fight with Ogerpon really showed how it was able to straight up kill three Poison types as a pure grass type in a 1v3

Kieran only saw Ogerpon as something scary for him to feel better Meanwhile our trainer sees Ogerpon, gets to her eye level, and compliments her mask. No wonder she wanted to hang out with us instead. I swear Kieran reminds me of those parasocial folks that project stuff onto people. Then they get mad when they're not what they projected. He constantly tried to go to where Ogerpon lived. Even trying to battle for her regardless of her own choices. And his switch from calling you special to wanting to beat you to the point of obsession. This is a neat different story for Pokemon. I dig it.

Okay, I'm almost POSITIVE Terapagos had something to do with Kieran’s descent into madness! There's no other way to explain it since he's gonna be in the next DLC… I swear I think we're seeing in real time what happened to the Professors happening to him.

I hope Kieran becomes the equivalent of BDSP Cynthia in the next DLC.

40:30 You're right on the money as the descriptions they had as titans talked about how they used to be boring old animals who wished to have great things and then were each granted Brain, Brawn, & Beauty respectively, giving them thier typings of Psychic, Fighting, & Fairy. But after hearing this version of Okidogi's entry, I now realize that it was the toxic chains they wore that forced these typings to reveal themselves.
